The Missing Pound


Three men go for a meal in a restaurant. At the end of the meal the waiter brings them the bill and it comes to £30. Each man puts in a ten pound note. The waiter rings it up and then realizes he made a mistake and the bill was actually for £25.

The waiter brings back five pound coins. As five doesn’t divide into three very well, the men take one pound each and leave two pounds as a tip which the waiter pockets.

Everybody love story from rags to riches. It creates drama, it creates conflict but more importantly it creates something that people can relate to - their own life, their own personal experience.

Nobody likes a story "born to be a prince, grow up to be pampered kid and die to be a king with 1000 mistresses". That's not the life story of 99% population in this world.

Every guru will tell you that "the money is in the list".

And while it's true that I owe most of my success to my lists and other email promotions proving that email marketing is still a powerful direct marketing tool, but is it losing it's effectiveness, particularly in the "make money online" niche?

It seems the days of getting 20-30% click-through rates as they were a couple of years ago are gone. Now, an average of 10% is considered the norm....
