I posted this in reply to someone struggling to get started and thought I'd share it here for any other people finding it hard to work out how to start out.

Looks like you got suckered into the typical newbie things.

Despite what the sales letters tell you - it's not normal to expect to buy a few ebooks and then be an expert and making a full time income.

You will do better if you forget what you've bought/done and just use your brain and common sense.

The good news is - making money is NOT hard. So if you're prepared to work hard then you can definitely make it happen.

The bad news is - the 'best' way for you to do it is not already written down by other people.

You need to create your own plan and then work it.

For example, here's a very quick way to approach starting out:

1) pick something you're genuinely interested in and passionate about ALREADY.

Do not try and pick something just because you think it will make money (you already know what happens when you do that).

2) see if there are other people who are interested in and passionate about your subject.

3) see if there are already products being sold effectively to those people.

4) see if there are effective advertisements offering products to those people.

You can quickly get an idea just by searching on Google and seeing if there are Google ads running. If there are then check out some of the products being offered and see if any of them have an affiliate program.

5) join an affiliate program and get a link to use to promote the product.

6) create a simple landing page that talks about the main problem that the product addresses and offer free information about it - have a few simple emails which share information about the issue and at the bottom of each one include a link to the affiliate product.

7) create a PPC campaign that addresses the main problem people are searching with in your niche. If you're really struggling then just base your ad on the top ads already running in the niche.

8) test and track what keywords get you traffic and convert into buyers.

9) when you have a list of keywords/phrases that you KNOW turn into buyers from your testing - either stop running your PPC (or if you're making more than you're spending - keep doing it) and then focus on SEO and get that traffic from organic rankings instead.

10) add more products, more information etc.....

The worst that can happen is that you spend a bit of time and a little money learning more about something you're already interested in.
