I know this may sound really daft but the best results from a mailing list will always come through offering absolutely nothing at all. No free report, ebook, software or graphics back just the promise of a quality ezine that people can read from you on a regular basis.


The free ezine is what will get you sale after sale, low unsubscribe rates and money in the bank. Even though you can have all this with a free report the results will never come even close and this is a very good reason for this:


Many people don't see you as an internet marketer offering quality information and products via a free ezine they see you in completely the opposite way. They find you because of your offer of a free product and then after reading it decide whether or not they will stay on your mailing list at that particular point. Many of these though will stay with you because they want to see what else you are willing to offer them for free without obligation to a pay a single penny.


From a business point of view for someone that wants to make money out of their list this is your worst nightmare in the making and you want to stop this in its tracks by making sure you are building your brand not just offering a free report to new subscribers.


The first way to do this is to use your name to build an excellent reputation on the internet so that people come to you just to join your mailing list and not just for a free report. I purchased the domain name of my personal name and have used this successfully to dramatically increase my subscriber base. My unsubscribe rate is amazing in comparison to other lists that I own. For example for every one person that unsubscribes to my branded mailing list, five will unsubscribe from a free report list.


I am sure you will agree that these results are amazing and it is very easy to put into practice. You don't just have to have a free ezine page either the little sign up forms on the side of your main website will also increase your numbers. If people visit your site and like what they see the chances are they will want to subscribe in order to find out more about you and the products or ezines that you have created both past and present.


Using your own brand also helps with getting you the expert status in the online community, rather than just having a free gift people will recommend you more and talk about you through online forums. Remember the best ever type of marketing is word of mouth and brand building is the best way to implement it.


Just think for a moment about the current results you get from your mailing list. Through promoting you rather than a free report you can increase your subscribe rate, lower your unsubscribers, have a higher click through rate and most importantly increase your sales. If you don't do this already I thoroughly recommend that you put it into practice.
