Beware of Super Affiliates In Sheep's Clothing

I have to confess that 2 years ago when I started my in house affiliate program
affiliate program I was a complete novice. The first serious affiliate to sign up found me by luck but he has brought in serious consistent money ever since.
My program has grown steadily, mostly by word of mouth since I do not promote it much.
Like all merchants I dreamed of the day the "Super Affiliate" came calling or emailing and took my business to the astronomical levels we hear about at affiliate seminars.
This past summer I get the email most merchants dream of. A super affiliate emailed me with his direct cell phone number interested in negotiating an affiliate relationship.
I Googled his name and did a Reverse Email Search of his email and he was who he claimed he was. His PR on the web described this man as a genius at Internet marketing, expert affiliate and noted author and speaker.
We entered into negotiations that I have to admit were over my head. The man had conditions and accommodations he wanted met that seemed to be unusual and even greedy but he kept my attention with the promise of huge sales and profits.
When we were getting to the point where we were just about to get the lawyers involved I decided to do my due diligence and run a background check on my prospective new partner.
To my utter shock I found tax liens, judgments, criminal convictions, a bankruptcy and even lawsuits with some of the people mentioned in his glowing PR copy I originally found on the Internet.
Naturally I cut off all negotiations and dropped out of the deal.
The moral of the story is not be sucked in by a marketers and their self promotions. Do your own due diligence and check everyone out even if they have a big name and big reputation.
