Have you ever been angered by the fact that a coworker who had the same amount of work to finish as you, has finished faster than you ? Well, this is happening when you are not managing your time accordingly.
Many persons have the tendency to leave their activities behind, procrastinate even, and doing so they are getting packed with work that needs to be finished right on the last mile. These situations also are causing, most of the times, anxiety and stress. If you could manage your time correctly, you wouldn’t be confronted with situations like these any more.
Here’s how you can start doing it properly.
Make a task list.
Try building yourself a task list that you have to finish that day. Think how much time would be needed for each action and try to meet your own deadlines. This way, you will be motivated to respect the schedule.
It’s very probable, when respecting your own schedule, to finish your tasks even before the set deadline.
Set your priorities.
Set your assignments according to their emergency levels. This will not only help you in meeting your deadlines, but at the same time will grant you more time for later tasks. Write them all on a piece of paper and cross them off as you are finishing them. The smaller the list will get, the more satisfaction you will feel and get more motivated to finish sooner.
Remove all distractions.
In case your office, or work space is close to a colleague who is wasting time telling jokes or just gossiping, try changing your work environment. Such colleagues are toxic for you and will surely distract you, making you to waste time too. If you lose count of your duties, even once, it will be difficult to reengage in your rhythm and because of this you will lose more time.
Take frequent breaks.
If you are trying to work continuously, without a doubt, you won't be able to finish your work sooner or better. Go on your lunch break, and again every hour, grant yourself a 5 minute break. At the same time you can walk around the office or work space, you can use your phone if needed, to get a little escape, or even stretch a bit. Also, do not forget to open a window to get some fresh air. Your brain needs fresh air so it can function properly and perform better.
Get real.
Set your objectives in such manner, so you can finish them in a reasonable amount of time. It is useless to overfill your task list. Carefully calculate your daily tasks in a realistic and productive way and do not try to accomplish more than humanly possible.
It's true that sometimes, maybe you can do more, but your superiors will often not appreciate or maybe even not notice your work's quality. Usually the quantity matters to them most.
Other tips.
Be flexible and try having a relaxed attitude, even if your day is full.
Analyze yourself and see find your own rhythm on doing things, also find your most productive part of the day. Some of you may work more efficiently in the morning, while others can be more productive towards the end of their work day. So, plan ahead and do things in your own way and pace.
Do not ever let tasks gather up on the last mile.
Closer the deadline, higher the stress. Besides, anytime, emergency situations can present themselves and may prevent you doing your job.
The more you are working in advance, you will be less pressured and thus, more advantageous.
