Domain Names Demystified

I have noticed that there is a proliferation of
folks setting up shop on free blogs, webpages
and subdomains. It’s as if they are afraid to
register a domain name. Perhaps they are
worried that it’s too complex or expensive,
or they can’t decide on a suitable name for
their online venture.

Keep in mind that domain names are not a
forever commitment. If you registered a name
that no longer fits, think up something better,
change niches or whatever – it’s no big deal.
You can always register more domain names.

Domain names are so easy to register there’s
no excuse for not doing so. Registrations are
leased by one year increments, you can
register .info for about $4.00 and .com for
$7.00 per year. Others aren’t that expensive
either.

There are dozens of reputable registrars, they
can be located with a search engine. Some
registrars offer hosting also. I prefer not to
register and host with the same entity, but
you can if it's more convenient.

There are several free domain generators
that will spin the word combinations that
you provide. Some of my favorites are:

These tools will save you a great deal of
time and brain power. You enter the words
that you want as a prefix and those you
would like as a suffix and the generator
produces several word combos within a
few seconds. You can then decide which
combo is best suited for your online
project.

It’s a good idea to use the keywords that
reflect the topic of your site, for example
if your site is about dogs, you may select
a domain name such as DogGroomer,
BarkingDog, PuppyLove or DogTricks

decide whether you should register a domain,
stop procrastinating and just do it.
