I added a 7 day free trial to my membership site. Interestingly, I did have one customer, who purchased the product, and then right after the auto responder sent the material send an email in red and all caps saying "cancel my program!" 10 minutes later another email came saying "CANCEL MY PROGRAM...I just wanted the trial...I trust you will not charge me again." this again was in red.

I did cancel the person and even refunded the 1 dollar trial (which I probably shouldn't have done)

I immediately felt taken advantage of. This user obviously had no intention of staying in the program. I thought about blocking the user from ever ordering from me again...but then I calmed down and realized that this was a part of doing business. While this customer had no intention of being a real customer...how many others, joined and stayed due to the trial offer.

we are still looking at 12% canceled in the first month of our operations. hopefully it will stay low...I mean it could have been worse...the customer could have done a chargeback

Be that as it may...my effort is better spent selling my product, then thinking of ways to keep people from taking advantage of my company.
