Success Step 2 - Contacting Offline Businesses
Ok so you've got your target businesses picked out. You know who you want to go after and if that list is thousands deep, hundreds deep, or just a handful of big clients.
How many people you want to go after determines the way you approach them.
If you've picked a few hundred or thousand to go after you can't possibly call or visit their store front. I mean I guess if you wanted to make 50 calls a day or visit 50 businesses a day each day, seven days a week I guess you could visit up to 1500 businesses.
I mean 50 businesses in an 8 hour day, that gives you 9 minutes per business. I am sure you could do it if you wanted to.
In all seriousness if you are going to go after a large target market the key is to find a way to get in the head of all of those prospects without spending a lot of time. There are several ways to do this.
My favorite is here
The steps outline in that have made me over $25,000 to date.
But say you want to go another route and actually narrow your market down to a handful of clients or businesses. How would you contact them.
Here is a quick list of ways to separate yourself from other businesses.
1. Fed Ex. If you want to stand apart you can send your material Fed Ex. It gets you past the normal everyday mail and into the hands of the person you are sending it to.
2. Priority Mail. Same as above, just cheaper.
3. Personal Messenger. This is one of my favorites. I like to pay a local college kid to dress up in a nice suit and a clipboard. I send them the businesses I want to target with a package that the person I am looking for has to sign for. Talk about setting yourself apart.
4. Care package. What do you think will get you noticed first - a letter or a pound of fresh roasted coffee and cookies? That's what I thought. Again if your narrowing your prospect list you can afford to spend a few more bucks per contact. This is a great way to get remember so if you place a follow up call they will remember you.
The possibilities are endless. The point is no matter how you choose to contact the person make sure you do something that stands out above the competition.
