The Empty Cup

It is something well known in martial arts – keep an empty cup so it can be filled.
But I would like to take the "water bottle" analogy further.
Yes you must open your bottle, take the top off before you can fill it.
You also choose to hold the bottle under the faucet, to fill it with clear clean water.
Now what if you came to a sewage outlet?
It would be a good idea not to put the bottle under the faucet and keep the lid firmly screwed in place.
Though there is a lot of cool clear clean water filtering down from those who have succeeded, in articles and forums, there is also a lot of sewage being pumped in by those who don’t know what they are talking about, who are jaded, who make posts such as “give up on XXX method, it doesn’t work”
And at these times we do need to speak up and speak out so new people don’t get confused.
A while back we had a certain affiliate post 2 bad pieces of advice:
“free ads don’t work, don’t waste your time”
and
“follow-ups may not work, you are wasting your time”
I spoke up on both occasions so that new people would put the tops on their bottles and not fill it with this raw sewage.
Imagine a new affiliate taking the “advice” not to use free ads – not to follow Johan’s guide – and not to do follow-ups!
Another thread one time we had a new affiliate, just joined, first post, saying online marketing doesn’t work, neither do free ads “you get what you pay for” (how many times have we heard that litany?). And to spend money advertising in magazines!
My reply was quite simple: “you are completely wrong!”
So respecting other peoples views, posts and opinion can only go so far before it starts to become damaging to others. Then it’s time to change the analogy.
