Combination of written/video for sales letters?

No doubt, the migration from written to video sales letters continues on.

But I've seen a few instances, lately, where companies or marketers
are trying to incorporate both written and video into the same sales
presentation....

Tom has been using this for years, so it's obviously testing well...

And while doing some research for a financial client, I noticed that
all of Agora's letters are now using a pop-up box that asks the
reader if they'd rather READ or WATCH the presentation.

Sick of getting GOUGED when gas prices go up?

Obviously they've tested the daylights out of this.

I'm curious, does anyone here have any results from doing a combination
of the two on their sites?

I'm wondering if we'll start seeing more of this?

    I always write a video script AND a sales letter for my clients.

    I use the VSL to go straight away into the solution - most of the time.

    And I use the letter for a slow build.

    Unfortunately...

    I can really give any examples I've done because of NDA's and verbal agreements.

    I have a handful that are crushing it.

    One that the owner does allow me to show is bonusbagging dot com.

    It's in the gambling niche, totally legal in the U.K.

    The letter/video combination increased his previous effort by double and it's pretty much evergreen now.

    I recommend that copywriters explore this trend.

    Because it works.

      It's almost impossible to get me to consume a video-only sales letter.

      I'm not alone.

      I've also recently begun seeing the pop-up when you try to close the video tab or window that offers the transcript of the video.

      Smart.

      Maybe we old-school reader types are in the minority, but why lose us?

          I agree.

          And I'm not saying I never watch video.

          But when I land on a page and see a video only, I'm almost always going to close that tab immediately.

          Again, there are exceptions. If the video is from someone I already know, like, trust, and want to hear more from, I might watch it.

    As a consumer, I can't stand video sales letters. When I'm on a page of a product that has a video sales letter, I X out. However, a lot of people are smart enough that when someone does that and before you leave the page, it will load a written sales letter and ask me if I'm sure I really want to exit the page.

    The less smart product owners, just let me X off the page never to return. All because they couldn't be bothered to take a few minutes and turn the video sales letter into a written one and put up a simple exit popup box. I often wonder how much revenue they're losing.

    I KNOW I'm not the only one who prefers to read a sales letter either. This topic comes up quite a bit on the main forum.

    This is something to keep in mind for clients who want "just a video sales letter"

    Here's the question you need to ask:

    Does the prospect know something is for sale before they hit the site?

    If they do, then I'm leaning towards the combination.

    If someone is searching for a product it makes sense to give them the opportunity to review and buy immediately. Many will.

    This is what I've personally found to work best in my own business - VSL with long form sales page underneath.

    But if it's an information product... it's up in the air.

    Regardless, in most cases it still makes sense to test both.

    As many here have said and I will personally attest to, the results will often surprise you. Subvert your ego and let the market decide.

    Your opinions as a consumer mean nothing. There are many, many, many "less smart" marketers who are doing just fine repelling the know it alls.

    One thing I've noticed from top publishers like Market Authority is make their VSL HUGE and when someone tries to leave, to simply put the order form with condensed copy.

    I have somebody testing this out right now. Will try to post some kind of results. Either way though, it also depends on product and kind of traffic.
