What do you guys think of security badges, for example, Godaddy's SSL badge or Paypal's golden trust badge? There is also Geotrust, et.al. Does this do a lot for conversions or simply keeping people on your site. I spoke with reps from a few small business CMS providers who told me that many small e-stores do not place badges on their storefront. What do you think?

well I just added a authorize.net trust seal which I think helps the overall feel/look of the site. I think adding a google trusted store badge would be very beneficial, but I have yet to figure out how to acquire that.

I was hesitant to use them at first but I can honestly say that putting Trust Seals from Trust Guard - Our Trust Seal will Increase Your Sales! on my store increased conversions in a big way.

I wouldn't add them unless your store is already making money though. They will increase conversions but not work magic

I have had the same experience. What really surprises me (and I always check) is the number of offers using a graphic of thrust badges on their offer pages instead of real ones!

Easy to check, just put your cursor on them and you'll quickly know if they are real or not.

When I find them I walk away because it indicates low ethics. If they are willing to do that how could I trust them.

Always display as many seals as you can. Trust is the #1 issue that holds back buyers from taking action. So the more comfortable you make them, the more inclined they are to take action. If you can't get Verisign (Not necessary to get started), get Trust Guard. Also make sure you add little pop up windows for each of your seal so when the user clicks on it, it gives them a little blurb about what each seal represents. Seals are ESSENTIAL for conversions.

have a positive impression on buyers and can increase buyer confidence. I thought it was a great idea and will provide a positive first. but the belief that it is actually difficult to be built and when the trust was already there then it will be difficult to watch.

We use Trust Guard seals and they made a noticeable increase in conversions.
