does email marketing REALLY still work?

I ask, because if there are any other people like me ( I suspect there are MANY ), who on a daily basis delete hundreds of emails without opening them. Why I keep the accounts ( I have 2 like this.....and a third "real" account for friends and family) is
personal and I won't go into it. But the question is valid......how MANY others out there do the same ??

I find there is NOTHING most affiliates or promoters can send me that I'm interested in spending time on. I CANNOT sit thru yet another 30 minute+ video. ( who the hell are STILL watching these things??? ). I admit to looking out for a VERY few names .....but most just hit the garbage file without the slightest hesitation. IF this became a "movement" ....maybe ......just maybe so much junk wouldn't hit the in boxes all over the world ?????

I suspect it's happening....... but the fresh influx of lambs keeps it going??

Any thoughts?

I've had a "burn" email from the start. It currently gets around 4000 spam per month.

    It just doesn't bother me...

Yes, same here, those thousands of emails just became part of my routine. It does burn time but it's bareable enough compared to it's return. I still get enough of what I need in return.

Mainly, it's just a matter of having a fixed process. A process that helps in speeding things up for you. Better filtering strategy also makes a huge difference.

What kind of question is this? You are generalizing email marketing. There are many types of email marketing.

Your inbox does not reflect every other inbox in the world. Just because there are a lot of low-quality emails in yours does not mean that email marketing stopped working.

Write good content that people would like to have in their inbox. That's it. If you do that, it works. This ain't rocket science! Stop treating it like it is. It really is not that difficult.

Seems to be working out for those guys. I think you've got your answer right there. The question you should ask yourself is: Does MY email marketing work? If not, why?

Then go back to those few names and observe what they're doing right.

I do not do email marketing, I really wanted to know if the people who continue to market by email find that their "open rates" are declining? I never assumed that my experience ( delete delete ) was everyone's........in fact THATS WHY I asked the question........it just dawned on me as I deleted a new batch this morning. I wonder if email marketing is getting tougher? No other assumptions, no hidden agendas.

working for me...well kind of...I ain't making a killing though...but I got about a 20% open rate and the vast majority of my sales come from my emails....I mean more than 95% are from emails...

Without email, I would be making a lot less....

plus...I do paid membership programs through email instead of a membership site (a whole lot easier)...so it helps there as well....

Why are you subscribing to their lists when you find garbage stuff?

Just unsubscribe from their list. This is the best way out.

    But EMAIL MARKETING STILL WORKS.

For example, if I'm a complete newbie to WordPress, I may find how to how to install wordpress a very useful stuff while on the other hand, you may not find it useful, if you already know how to install it. This was just an example.

It 's a matter of what stage of IM you are in. If you already know about the things people in the subscribed list are telling you, then you will find that stuff garbage. It's time to unsubscribe and move to the next level where you will learn something new.

Yes what you are saying is correct of course!

But it is possible when focusing on targeted audience for particular business.

If the clients really needs some kind of information, they will search for it.

By estimating the list of people who are in need of your products/service you can communicate with them via these marketing system.

Hope this will really works out as it do for me!!!!

Email marketing works and works well providing you never forget the #1 (IMO) rule.

    What's the rule?

You need to build up trust with your reader/subscriber.

Think about it. If someone you've never seen walks up to you in a shop and says 'buy this' would you?

You might be a frequent visitor to that shop, that shop might sell things that you want but the fact is the person who walked up to you and said 'buy this' has not built up a relationship with you. And the fact they have a name tag on so you can call them by their first name is not enough to build up trust.

Now take that thought a step further. You walk in to the shop and the same person walks up to you and says 'Hi I'm John, can I help you?' That is the first step in building a relationship with you.

Even if you say 'No' your brain will remember that that person offered to help you.

You go in to the shop the next day and John says 'Hi I'm John, can I help you?' - Now there is a bit of familiarity. The next day John might say 'Hi can I help you today?'.

The day after John might say 'Hi, I see you're a regular here, what's your name?'

The day after that, if you told John your name, when John sees you he might say
"Hi Mary, anything I can help you with today? Oh and by the way the cake department has a special offer on cookies, I'm not sure if you like cookies but they taste really great and as a regular customer I thought you'd like to know."

Before long John is one of the 'good guys' and you start to listen to him. He knows all of the good offers, he's never pushy, you give him the time of day and you miss him on his day off.

Email marketing is just like real life.
It works when you have the trust of your readers and you've built a relationship with them.

    Good luck.

Yes, it does (although it depends on what “works” means to you).

However, I´ve noticed that all the “Gurus” are relying not only on email marketing, but also on staying in touch and building relationships using social media, mainly Facebook and Twitter.

So, it seems to be better if you´re using several channels of reaching, staying in touch and even interaction with your subscribers, and don´t rely only on email.

Personally, I noticed that I´m opening and reading much more emails coming from folks that I am in touch with on Facebook. I assume that there are other people like me out there, which means that interacting with your subscribers on Facebook and Twitter may help your email marketing a lot and make it “work” much better.

Yes, it works. It's all a numbers game. Let me give you a few examples:

    1. I'm a Realtor, when I get someone's contact info to include email and have a short conversation with them about what they are looking for I start sending them listings once per week. Even though I might not consider them worthy of actual phone or personal email follow up some times months or more later they just contact me from the listings my automated system has been sending.

    2. My mom is in her 60's. Somehow some companies got her email. So now she looks at these emails that suggest books to buy and goes to the website and buys them. Same for clothes, etc.

    3. I have dogs and I like electronics. I frequently go through emails from a pet store like Pet360.com or Petsmart or TigerDirect or NewEgg advertising specials.

    4. There is a guy named Chris Curry who advertises outrageous (repeate: OUTRAGEOUS claims) to Realtors on Facebook like 'see how I use this system and list 35 properties every month' of various types, even though I'm pretty sure he doesn't even sell realty anymore. Once he gets your email, he spams you pretty much every single day. So I did sign up for one of his programs and there were plenty of other paying agents in the programs too forking over $99 per month for well.. not much..

So yes, it works, but it's a numbers game. If you can convert even 0.1% or 0.01% I bet you're doing pretty okay. Some people's inboxes aren't that cluttered, their days aren't that busy, and they aren't that suspicious.. like my mom.. so if you email her a picture of a sweater she likes or book she might want to read she might just click the link and buy it.

Done properly, it absolutely still works.

100% of my income is ultimately derived through permission-based (double opt-in) email marketing, and has been for several years.

Every single one of my tax consulting clients.
      Every information product sale.
      Every high end coaching client.

      All ultimately sold via email.

Create good content. Build a list. Build a business.

It takes time, but it's actually really, really simple. This stuff ain't rocket science (and I studied rocket science in graduate school).

email marketing is very effective if done right . It is a science as is any type of marketing. Think about the junk snail mail you still receive ...It has worked for years and must still produce results or multimillion dollar companies would not do it. The trick is it must peek interest and offer value to the right target market ....lots more to it than that , but I could write a book on the subject ( maybe a good idea ) ... the point is , to answer your question , yes it works if done right

I think by asking this question is like asking why companies are still distributing flyers when some would be just crushed and thrown away without being looked at, or why shops in the malls are still opened when most shoppers are just browsing around with no real intention to buy.

The point is, what doesn't appeal to you may appeal to someone else and there is always a chance for a sale as long as there are inboxes receiving the email and eyeballs looking at the title of it.

The noteworthy difference here is, the reason why you're getting the emails is that you actually wanted to in the first place (by subscribing). I read it as, as long as the prospects remain subscribed to you, they're telling me that they're still keen for more even though they could be disregarding all of your earlier emails.

The autoresponder is a vertical sales funnel that is built not just for pushing products down through it. It is also an engagement channel for you to share different stuffs with your prospects and to direct them to more engagement platforms such as your social media or blogs. As you build relationships you're too building your credibility over time. When you have a more established follower base, you'll appreciate that you have an email marketing system you'd put in place earlier. You can sell different products to the same subscribers again and again - who knows which product may catch anyone's fancy along the way?

The focus here should not be just the open rates but how extensive your email list is. Email marketing allows you to play both the width and the depth of the game. When your net is cast wider by the day, the chances of catching fishes increases in the long run.

When some 'marketer' sends you 30+ minutes video I'm not sure he knows at least something about email marketing.

So the problem is not with email marketing.
And I can't say everyone just delete all messages without at least looking through the titles. I think that if you receive personalized short email with information about something you're looking for, it can work.
So it's not right to completely refuse from email marketing, it doesn't work if you send sample letters with no personalization.

If it's a long email black text on a white page I would possibly not bother to read it unless something gripped my attention within the first 30 seconds, I personally have a short attention span when it comes to marketing emails so if its short to the point I would more than likely click the link. Don't tell anyone, but I still look at the emails and buy something once in a while. How compelling is the header? How interesting is the message that would make you take a look? I have noticed some of these marketers will consistently resend emails on certain products. They might stop for a couple of weeks, then all of the sudden, here they come again. There has to be a reason for this. Think about it.

You got three types of users, 1 - self depositors who deposit right away, 2 - those that deposit after a few days or so, 3 - those that get reactivated by some marketing angle, so if you don't send emails you run the risk of missing out on 2 and 3...... that's just for starters
