Developing an email list without offering an ebook

Hi Warriors,

I'm designing a new UX blog and I have no time to create a product to persuade users to give their email addresses and so develop a list ... I think rather give a service : free 30 min (or 1 hour) to help user design better user experience (web site & mobile app). I can help a person to develop a better UX, individually (on Skype for exemple) ...

What do you think about this idea ? Do you have any other solution or idea ?

Thanks a lot

You have no time to create an ebook but you have time to give free 30 mins session for every subscriber on your list !?

If you can do that , then why not create a free video instead ?

I can give 30 min per week or 2 sessions (1 hour) per week ... By doing something personal for every subscriber, I think I can build a better costumer trust ...

Thinking also about a free webinar ...

Heck , I would charge at least $200 per hour for my consultation. My brother , you are trading so much time for nothing. There are tons of ways to build trust.

Use an autoresponder and deliver information , value , help them solve their problems , show your past work and testimonials..etc, Try to be time efficient.

Giving each subscriber free hour of consultation can work if you charge at least $1000 for the end product.

What happens when you get 500 subscribers in the first week? I don't think you have thought this out very well.

    1 ebook = 1 hour

1 hour a week =52 hours a year or more, how can you do this for hundreds or thousands of subscribers when you do not have the time to create 1 ebook. You do not have 1 hour but you have unlimited hours to go over what you could have put in the ebook.

Sorry, does not make sense to me

You could do a few one on one webinars for your new clients record it then put that together as a product to offer for free to subscribers. Other then that create a ebook or get somebody to do it for you on fiverr.

I'm with cashkid on this -- go ahead and do some free consults, but record them and use them to create your lead magnet product. You may need to do a few and then pull bits and pieces out of them that you can use as examples with voiceover added to explain the principles in more depth. But at some point, you'll have enough source material that it will make more sense to put a little time into editing up a video than it would to continue giving free consults that get you exactly one subscriber each. Leverage the work you do in the beginning so that it continues paying you back forever.

well, since your asking for their emails, which is something alot will relent to give freely, why not give them some incentives to drop their emails ...not really a golden rule though.

If you don't want to create an ebook, you can definitely create something else.

There a lot of types of lead magnets. You said you don't have enough time. I recommend that you create checklist / resource tools.

The reason i'm telling you the create checklist because it's simple, easy, and get the job done. How many hours could you save? Let me tell you " A LOT". And the most important thing, you can create it in less than 30 minutes or less.

    .

    .

Ebook is some kind of how to guide with a lot of example and description. Ex: 7 Steps to Increase Your Conversion In 30 Days ( This can be 20-30 page long pdf ).

Checklist / Tools Guide is some how to list or tools that you've used to achieve your customer wants desires and goals. Ex: 7 Wordpress Plugins That You Need To Have To Increase Your Conversion ( this one can be 3 page long ebook or maybe just 1 or 2 page only )

As you can see, there's big difference in 30 page and 2 page. You can start small, then after you see the result, you can step up and create 30 page ebook or video guides.

Example for this, you can watch one of Eben Pagan Video
Watch the entire video to see his example of checklist

    .

    .

    How to make it compelling?
    1. In your checklist / tools give a little bit description. Don't just give them some list. Make your checklist / list meaty with one or two paragraphs description.

    2. Most people think free stuff should be cheap. But, if you want your prospect to think that your service is hiqhly valuable you need to invest in the packaging. Because you offer design service, i guess this is not a problem for you. If you're too lazy, you can find designer in many freelancer site or maybe just pay someone on fiverr.

    3. Call To Action. After you've finished, why don't put call to action to consult to you at the end of your checklist.

    4. Create more checklist and repeat step 1-3

Just create resource guide / checklist if you want a fast way to create lead magnet and don't forget to package it.

    Hope that helps.

    You don't need an ebook.

Make a nice 1-page pdf summarizing the "4 Biggest Barriers To A Nice UX" or whatever your topic is...

Your copy tells them you'll give them the answers to the 4 biggest problems in their niche. Of course, make sure these really are problems they acknowledge they have, or will once they see them...and aren't just your guesses.

    Write up your bullet points.

Hire someone to expand them out into paragraphs.

Have someone else pretty everything up with graphics and into a pdf.

    $20 or less on Fiverr.

So let's say you going to have 1000 people joining your list, how are you going to physically be able to offer them 30 minutes to each?

If you really don't have time to create some kind of report or guide but have to spare let's say 1 hour, make you bride to be a webinar that you offer.

It will take likely just 2-3 hours to write some 5-10 pages report or short guide that you can offer as a bribe to sign into your list.
