List of 190k Unhappy Previous "Customers"

I've purchased a website which has come with an email database of 192,477 marketing subscribed customers.

Only problem is that the guys who owned the website previously started a promotion of a free t-shirt which is what 99.9% of these people have ordered. They then didn't deliver the free t-shirt.

So I have a list of 190k unhappy people.

Any ideas? I'm so close to a gold mine I can smell it.

Things to consider:
They ordered the shirt back in November, most of them have forgotten about it and the people who are bothered enough to email in asking where their shirt is are mostly understanding of the situation. (there are a couple of people who want to hunt me down and kill my family for not providing them with a free tshirt 3 months after they ordered it)
A huge amount of them have come from freebie websites and freebie subreddits so there is the potential to turn the website into a "freebie hunting" website.

      But seriously folks......

      190,000 unhappy people [freebie seekers] is no basis for building a business.
      No doubt you had your reasons for buying the site?
      Was it the number of subscribers?
      Did you do any due diligence?

      If the domain name is any good, you'd be far better building from scratch.
      If you want to share the domain name [pm me] I'd be very happy to throw a few ideas at you. I've been making my living online for close to 15 years so I know a few things.

    What market / niche is the site?

    What was the offer / t-shirt?

    Need to understand the correlation between the two in order to figure out how best to move forward with the list.

    How is the list stored / mailed?

    Have you mailed it or at least to a random portion of it?

    I have other questions, but those are what I would want to know first.

    You could have 1,000,000 people on a list looking for freebies and if you begin charging money for stuff, you just lost your list.

    5 to 10 people who buy all of my eBooks, products, audio books and who hire me for my services beats cheapies.

    I'd focus little on big numbers and more on creating value for a discerning customer. Then, list or not, these people will freely spend money, which is where the goldmine is.

    My advice....create a different website in a similar niche or one that's not so similar, doesn't really matter. Then, give away something (not a t-shirt) for free and deliver it immediately (an ebook or digital product)

    Promote this to your huge list over a course of about 7-10 emails spread across 2-3 weeks and build a new list. Follow up the freebie with something super cheap, maybe $5 and see how many people buy it.

    If there's gold in this list, you're going to need to do some digging. However, not all freebie seekers are afraid to spend money. You just have to figure out what they will spend money for and how much they are willing to spend.

    With a list that large, there's definitely potential.


    I would suggest cleaning it first. There are providers such as BriteVerify that can remove any bad email addresses.


    From there, I would confirm with your current ESP if you can upload the list you acquired. They may consider it cold since these contacts didn't opt-in to your services via that ESP. If so, I'd look for an email sending software that allows sending to cold or purchased email lists.
