What Are the Most Reliable Online Storage Options?

Hi, l have created a large file for Creative Market recently, 2.3 gigs, but since CM covers 1 gig, l have tried to find another site to make up the difference.

I did a search for the top 10 best ones, and have tried idrive so far, with less than impressive results. It did a great job, uploading, and it has a great help section, but its links seem to work on and off. Well, l did create a new folder and transferred them over, so it might be having original location issues?

I obviously need a very reliable online storage company, with 100% working links.

So, are there any sites out there, that have reasonable costs, and are dependable with little tech, issues overall?

I would really appreciate the help, don't want to spend another 2 days loading and waiting and find that it is a goose egg?

I use the free version of Dropbox, and they also offer 1,000Gb for $10/mo. There's also Google Drive, which I think is 15Gb free, also with an available paid option, but I'm too lazy to look that up.

Yes, that's an affiliate link that directly answers an actual, real question here, which is why this post will self-destruct in 10, 9, 8....

Yes, l have a free dropbox one as well, but since it is the on/off computer one, whatever l put there will chew up my Laptop memory.

And a do a lot of graphics, so it is getting tight as is.

I would have liked to get the Dropbox online one, but already have the laptop one, and am not allowed to get both!

I really need an online one!

Yes, they mentioned the Google one, on the top 10, and Dropbox.

I just ran some tests with idrive, and it is a bit of a dog, l loaded up 3 zipped files and another 3 zipped within another file, all failed to load when clicked, except for the last in both sequences.

This was using another computer with a Proxi server, so it mimics a customer downloading!

And yes tried to split the 4 files into separate files, but no, 2 worked then l tried to get the other ones to work and all failed except that last one.

A dog with flies, for sure, time to try something else!

      Thanks for the advise.

Turn the auto-synch off, get Mozy for backup instead, and then you have full use of Dropbox without your laptop auto-synch'ing.

Alternatively, you're not supposed to use a different email address for a second Dropbox account, but I'd imagine that that would be another way.

I think Dropbox is a good option - I use the paid version, which I use to hold copies of a large number of images. I also have continuous backup running with Livedrive,

          cheers,

          Jon.

Yes, l have just researched Dropbox Sync, and it doesn't work with a normal account only Business.

            Can't afford $85 a month for that!

Probably go with this one.....https://www.opendrive.com/pricing. Microsoft owns it, so it should be reliable.

But l will test it thoroughly first, don't want to load for 2 days and find it is a goose egg again!

And the free version of opendrive is crap, but paid starts at $6,a month, so it isn't too bad!

            Thanks everyone!

FWIW, I was just speaking of "synch" in a generic sense, i.e., "whatever is on my computer gets automagically stored to the cloud". I wasn't aware, nor was I recommending, a specific service with that name.

MediaFire has always been a favorite of mine. Next best option to hire a simple network technician, and have them install a terabyte drive that is connected to your website. They will have to know about IIS though.

Why not use Amazon S3? Am I missing something? Low cost storage and bandwidth. And you only pay for what you use.

Ok, more interesting info, didn't know that you could link up a hard drive to a site?

Mediafire, ok, l will take a look.

Already have that, and unfortunately the links are not reliable, and it has bucket zoning issues.

You also need a digree in database organization, but l figured it out years ago.

If you live in the US, then this might work, but l live in AU, and no matter how you zone the bucket, (US or SYDNEY) it will keep resetting or reloading the same file several times, until it crashes.

I loaded my files up for a day with that one, until it produced an error message!

Then wiped all my bucket file/folders, and created new ones with the default zone, (since SYDNEY, didn't work) and a few hours later same error.

So, yeah, S3 is cheap, and another dog with smaller fleas!

    • Mega offers 50GB, standard file dump.

      Spideroak is clunky, but secure.

Box works as a Dropbox surrogate.

      Symform is way kewl.

Can't use Dropbox, but will put livedrive on the short list!

Mega, l think that the rich overweight kid with attractive women dripping off of him on tropical islands, blah, blah, owns that?

Well, after he was indited for running a dodgy movie sharing site?

        Ok, Princess,....short list!

But, l am testing Google Drive, as l write this and l am impressed so far. Initial testing, all three links worked, and the word files all worked.

I have downloaded about 900megs so far, in about 6 hours, which is pretty fast, the last one took a few days!

So, hopes are high that all the links will work when finished?

Not sure about pausing though, it just has a cancel button.

And idrive also has a cookie issue, it tends to load up forever and not display your files, l have had to wipe all cookies to access that dog, on more than one occasion.

It seems that the so called top 10 storage sites, (including the dog above) are top sites, with the biggest kickback for us, if you sign up with our link, not so much the best of the best!

        There are sharks everywhere online!

Dropbox, free, easy and has a 2 gig limit!

And the more you load up the more it takes from your hard disk space!

But l agree that it is easy!

I have tried Google Drive, all the files loaded up, quicker than usual, (2.3 gigs all up).

I downloaded one, and it all works perfectly.

And all of the links work.

Apart from not being able to load up their software onto my computer, (you need to do this in order to be able to pause a download) that is the only bug l could find.

It kept crapping on about clearing my cookies, when l tried this, but not being able to pause is a small issue, considering everything else is perfect, and you get 15 gigs for free, so it leaves Dropbox in the dust!
