Pinterest updates news feed algorithm

A new article from Search Engine Journal discusses Pinterest's new news feed algorithm update which will show certain types of content more often, as Pinterest's usual content ranking uses a click-through prediction model.
Before, pins that a user is most likely to click on based on past activity are prioritized in the news feed. While the previous model is effective at maximising user engagement, it's not really the best model for showing various content types.
The new algorithm is called controllable distribution, and it doesn't completely supersede the previous news feed algorithm. Pinterest will still use click-through prediction to show relevant content to users, then controllable distribution kicks in to diversify the content shown.
Quite a mouthful, really, but for the end-user this means their news feed will always have fresh and new content.
