Hi warriors,

I am just curious, what was the biggest mistake you did since your are a marketer? Be honest, many will benefit from it, even if it doesn't sound like this!

I have made quite a few mistakes over the years.

My biggest mistake was not building an email list sooner, but another mistake I made was reading to many guides and not taking the appropriate action.

I spent a lot of years doing nothing really and this when looking back was a big mistake of mine.

This exactly. Plus starting too many projects at once and ending up not making any money because I struggled to get them to the point where they would actually start generating profit.

My first mistake was not really building a relationship with my list, setting up a makeshift auto responder series and purchasing solo ads as fast as I could click the mouse button, thinking I'd wake up to tons of profits.

Boy did I learn fast after that!

I made 10 or 12 big mistakes, when I started.

      It didn't matter
which was the biggest mistake, because any of them was enough to stop me from earning any money worth talking about.

I mentioned most of them here.

Internet marketing is a like a hurdle-race: you have to clear each individual hurdle successfully to complete the round and get paid. The difference is that when you get to the end of this course, and don't get paid, with internet marketing there's usually nobody to tell you (accurately) at which you hurdle you had the "accident": you get to work that out for yourself - if you can.

I think the problem with most beginners is the "shiny object syndrome" jumping from one big thing to the next without actually taking the time to follow the instructions properly and give it the time it needs. This is becoming more and more popular ( due to the level of actual "newbies" portraying themselves as experts. so it's important to only take guidance from people who actually have had success - they can only steer you I'm the right direction...

    Cheers,

I would say that there are 2 mistakes I have made over the years. #1 is Branding. Basically WHAT you are selling over the months and years may change, but WHO is selling it doesn't. All of the years that I was selling this that and the other, and then moving on to the NEW this and the NEW that and the NEW other. I never once thought I could have migrated the following from the old to the new. OR selling "this" to "that" and the "other"

My #2 mistake would be not focusing on the consistencies of what I do. This one I actually figured out pretty early on in my career. but there was still a wasted 4 or 5 years in there.

What I mean by "Consistencies" is developing a working system. Internet marketing requires us to use a great many pieces together in order to make a sale. We build websites, and we build mailing lists, we develop traffic, we construct funnels... Each piece is a key element of a synergistic model. If one part fails it all fails.

I thought that with each new thing I was selling, the pieces would be different. The reality is once you have a working model, the product may be different, and the target may be different, but how the system works remains the same.

If you simply focus on your chosen path to getting traffic, draw that traffic to a funnel, and sell your product, AND learn how to do this SUCCESSFULLY. You can replicate this system over and over and over.

Mistakes are a dime a dozen, Success is one in a Million

There are 3 basic steps to selling. There is getting your offer in front of somebody. Then qualifying that somebody as someone that will buy your offer. Then there is actually selling the offer.

I think looking at it like that, it looks pretty simple. Again its having a system in place that will follow through with each of those steps that is the secret to success.

        Hi,

        Great reply!

That was exactly what I am thinking. The entire sales game is an airplane that cannot fly if a piece is not working. It might make a little noise, and seem like a plane, but the reality is that that is not a plane. It is only the body of the plane.

The actual soul of the plane is the system as an entity, not as separate parts.

And I think this was my biggest mistake:

CREATING FRANKENSTEIN BUT NOT GIVING HIM LIFE.

I will improve my system and make sure it all works as an entire.

Biggest one for me.... Google sniper lol

That sent me down the rabbit hole of useless SEO, adsense, affiliate marketing and trying to make "easy" money on quick gimmicks. All of which never actually build your own solid business and reputation.

I wish I had started out in product creation and building MY OWN buyers lists. All other methods rely on you sending your traffic to someone else and hoping they are good enough to sell them something and they pay you pennies... BLEEECHT!!!

    Wasted years on that crap

Hmmm, I'd have to say not building my list first. Everything outside of building a very targeted list is secondary. It's much like buying furniture for a house that you "may" get in the future. So, if someone out there is reading this stop creating your product, and start building a very target list of subscribers (leads).

    Why do this first?

Because, much like an offline business you don't want to rely on the traffic from affiliates (which may be 0). You can always rely on traffic that you can send directly to your offers (without commission sharing). I'm not saying don't get affiliates, what I'm saying is targeted traffic that you have control will equal sales and we're running a business here. Think forward.

My biggest mistake the first couple of years in IM was not only not building a relationship with a List but NOT even concentrating on building a List in the first place.

I got too side tracked with things like Adsense and CPA.

And I am not saying those are not viable, it is just that I needed to diversify more from the beginning. And I should have made Email Marketing my primary focus from Day 1

Making mistakes is part of the learning process. In order to grow we as people have to accept that we will make mistakes and as long as we learn from them then I have no problems with making mistakes. None of us are perfect.

As for making mistakes the only one I made was not doing this sooner. I'm so glad I took the leap of faith because it has completely changed me as a person but also my lifestyle.

I think this is my 2000th post, so I'll make it about a REALLY big mistake!

My biggest mistake was taking 6 years to realise that making $10 a day is not much different to making $1000.

All the time I aimed for $10, I was lucky to achieve it. When I started aiming higher - and actually understanding that the principles involved were exactly the same, $1000 (and higher) days became more frequent.

Don't let your own lack of self belief hold you back. You CAN do it - just believe it and make it happen.

what I was doing wrong, how to fix it and so on.
And i didn't believe in myself and had a wrong mindset.

So yes mindset does matter a lot!

Two big things that i kick myself for now...

      1. Not building a list

      2. Not creating authority sites out of my early sites (they could have been huge by now)

Buuut that's just how things are. I once thought that having a ton of sites in my portfolio would be the best way to keep thing diversified. Imagine having to renew and deal with 200+ domains yearly, most of which didn't even make me profit

And here I am with Authority sites thinking they are not specifically targeted enough and in the process of developing 200 Targeted sites by the end of the year! ha ha ha

Here is something to consider, creating pages that umbrella groups of your 200 and start cross advertising the sites within your mailing lists. There is nothing wrong with diversity as long as there is a method to creating unity with in your structure.

If you look at MY biggest mistake it was right there. Branding all of the many platforms to ultimately fall under one roof.

Its there for you, you just need to figure out the structure that will make it work. But, without question start cross feeding your mailing lists.

Succumbing to information overload and trying too many things at once. So many things look good that you end up chasing things you never get good at. Also, I was too lazy to build a list early on, let alone develop a relationship.

I had one woman who once told me, "You have a lot of great things to say. I can tell you paid a lot to learn what you know. If you started a membership site, Id join right away". And since I was not into list building at the time, and was actually afraid of it, I lost that lead forever and only now realize how dumb that was of me. That was someone I had built trust with and could have been part of my "tribe" if I knew that at the time. Those types are your best leads for anything and those are the type of leads you need to be building.

#1 mistake was to buy 20+ domains as part of the ''shiny object syndrome''. today i have 3 main domains - 1 for each income source.

#2 mistake is building micro niche sites using seo(the long way of making money) before making fast money - paid ads (i almost gave up - that is why)

#3 mistake is not branding myself

#4 mistake is not building a buyer list (there is a huge different) !!!!

#5 mistake was not understanding that online marketing is not far from offline marketing and that you need only 3 things - traffic -----> asset -----> funnel !

It was not for newbies at all although it was sold as newbie friendly. I´ve bought wso´s that had more value for me personally.

I have been guilty buying shiny object now I don´t do that anymore...I only buy things if they can help me in my listbuilding or traffic adventure...

One of my biggest mistakes when starting out was following the trend of building sites around keywords and then hammering them with links to get them to the top of Google. I spent money on software that would spam links everywhere and spent countless hours building links.

It worked great at first and I thought I was on the path to IM riches. Then a Google algorithm change hit and wiped out all of my hard work in one swoop.

Another mistake I made was not building a list sooner. Now that I've started list building, I wish I would have been doing it all along. You'll hear this a lot, but the money really is in the list!

This was my story too, but with 1 small difference. Instead of spending money on software, I paid 3 or 4 reliable people on Fiverr to build my links for me. It worked like a charm for a while, and I was making decent money, until the Penguin update.

To be honest, my biggest mistake was not sticking to one strategy. I would always jump around from strategy to strategy, trying to get quick results.

I didn't want to put my time and money into something that might not work. I had to realize that in order to get the results I wanted, I had to pick something, put in the work, and run with it.

My biggest mistake is getting stuck in information OVERLOAD and not taking consistent action everyday as I should. I just kept buying product after product, loading myself with information and I felt like I was never getting anywhere. Well guess what? I wasn't because I was stuck in analysis mode and I got more and more confused. So if I got to say one thing, it's to take action with the information you do know. I know it's easy to get distracted with all the B.S online these days, however you must stick to a method you resinate with and never give up, take action each and everyday, and understand that building a real business takes work and in order for you to produce results you must not make excuses and you must go out there every single day and make it happen, that's the only way you will build a business online, it's tough work, but is it worth it? I think you already know the answer to that one.

My biggest mistake when starting was to believe the IM Hype, and get frustrated, angry and dissapointed when an "IM method" I'd bought didn't work as specified.

Later I learned to treat each "IM method" as a learning experience, and that way I certainly learned a few things from each (even if what NOT to do) and was happy with that, and just kept on learning

    Hi there,

Most definitely my biggest mistakes made up to now as I know I will make more mistakes naturally are:

-Spending too much time in my inbox buying products and courses without sticking to any and seeing them through before jumping on the next shiny object to change my life which never did.

-Procrastination and purposely although sometimes subconsciously distracting myself which is very easily done on the internet in order to put off actually knuckling down and getting some work done.

There are many reasons for these bad habits and most successful Internet Marketers have and do sometimes struggle in these areas but the successful marketers are the ones who recognize their weaknesses and deal with them in a way that suits them.

    Good Luck

My biggest mistake was: moving from one project to the other.
This was something I was doing back in the days, I just couldn´t stand on one project at the time so I made several projects.

The mistake was, that when one project did not work well, I just ignored it and moved on, instead of trying to make it better.

Yep, this is just a HUGE problem among many IMErs.

The really sad thing ?? Its just not only prevalent in the beginner IMer. It's also prevalent in some long time IMers who have been switching from Program to Program for years and even decades without any success

Starting out in the magical world of internet marketing was amazing. I had the choice to sell almost any product i could think of and so many different ideas were popping into my head.

I explored clickbank, chose a product and starting trying to sell it on my landing page. A couple of days later, i felt that it was not doing as expected and i tossed it away for a completely new product in a entirely different niche.

This cycle continued for awhile until i realized the mistake i was making. Instead of focusing on improving my sales process, i was putting the blame on the product not selling well enough.

Like others, I'd say NOT building my own list sooner was my biggest mistake

My biggest mistake was not finding me a proper mentor and spending thousands of dollars and 3 years after tutorials and courses!

Some great answers here, i would say one of my mistakes was being too broad in my websites, I should've picked a smaller niche and just stuck with it.

I now have a process and it takes time but I go through everything step by step.
