Is Internet marketing for everybody?

I honestly and personally believe that ALMOST everybody can make it in this business, but that's still tough to say considering not everybody has the right work ethic and mindset.

What do you guys think? Do you guys think that anybody can get in this business full-time from scratch?

I say, yes, but it definitely comes down to multiple factors. What do you guys think?

I've seen all types of people from all walks of life make it in IM. People with education, people without; people with talent, people with seemingly very little. The one quality they all possessed, and I'm referring to those who made it, $100K or more a month , the one quality they shared was fearlessness. The ability to push yourself to the limit, to not only think out of the box but think and take action, to ignore the naysayers, to ignore the internal naysayer, to risk it all, every last freaking cent, to wake up each day, sit firmly in a chair, put aside the usual fun and games that regular folks enjoy, and stare at that monitor and work like your life depends on it. And, take it from someone who knows - it does. If you're of this mindset, it's all about the winning. You lose, it's like death.

Think like that, you're not only in the right career, you're in the game.

      Interesting observation. : )

However I would say that being courageous is more important than being "fearless." (Depending on your definition.). It's perfectly fine to be afraid of something relating to IM providing that you take action anyway. In fact I would say that's the definition of "courage:" Being afraid of something and doing it anyway.

Of course anyone can make it in this business.

The secret to any success is... "Taking Action!"

Most people get into IM thinking it's easy. "Oh, I can sit in my underwear all day and the money will just flow in while I did absolutely nothing." bahahaha Yeah right.

Just like any other business... you have to work at IM and treat it as a business to make it. Though, I'm sure, just like most businesses started, 80% won't make it after the first year.

Honestly, only a small portion of the population is business-minded. Therefore I would say only a small portion of those looking to get into IM to actually create long term business will succeed.

Aside from all the hyped up biz opp products and IM tools that makes MMO look like a breeze, this is a business and must be treated like a business. And if you don't have the business acumen, the thick skin, the mindset, and the general persistence that is requires, you're simply not going to make it.

Once you slip out of the thinking that this stuff isn't business, you're just a hobbyist. Tons of people might be hobbyists but does being a hobbyist pay the bills and put food on the table?

Not everyone can make it in this business nor should they. Some people need to be told what to do every step of the way, and that's perfect for them. Getting a job with a boss is perfect for them.

So saying that everyone can do this is sidestepping a ton of factors that simply is not reflected in most of society.

Most sensible post in this entire thread.

If IM was "for everybody" then it would seem the failure and attrition rates would be substantially lower than they are.

Yep it's for everybody, but not just anybody can do it. It takes a certain type of character someone who is determined to continue even when they feel like giving up. That's why you get a broad cross section of individuals from society who succeed from all walks of life because it's about determination and hard work.

You're right of course. But around here that obese person you're talking about will say that it's possible to lose 300 pounds of fat and gain 200 pounds of muscle. They might even manage to point out someone who's actually done it as if that one outlier story proves that it's easy for everyone in all situations.

That said, I'm not sure you can chalk it all up to delusions. Fantasy sells better than reality and there are more than a few people willing to take advantage of that.

I think you are right and wrong - right because no, being an internet marketer is hard and you must do it with all your heart. Wrong because I think anyone is passionate about something and internet marketing is all about selling what you are passionate about online... If you can manage that, you are an internet marketer. or do you think "just" of affiliate marketing and such?

I don't anything is for "everybody", accept eating and breathing. But internet marketing is probably for more people than any other industry I can think of.

Plus, more people is willing to help and guide you in the right direction (if you'll listen) than any other industry.

I.M gets a lot of bad rap, but it has its good side, it's far more newbie and failure friendly than any industry I can name.

    Absolutely!

    Let's put it in perspective.

All you need to succeed in internet marketing are:
    1. A computer (add a mic to that for screencasts) with a decent internet connection
    2. Time or money ($300 to $500 would be ample; heck if you have time you could get by with as little as a $100, though I would never do that myself)

Here's all you need to do to be successful in IM (condensed):
    1. PRODUCT CREATION:
Determine what the problem is in your niche. Put together a product and create offer that solves this problem. This includes the bribe that will grab leads for you.

    2. OPT IN & SALES PAGES
Here you create a page that grabs their information and plugs this contact information into your database of leads. This is your number asset. You can then start building a relationship with this list (leads/people in your database), build authority and sell to them later.
The optin page is the leads getter.
A sales page is a well-thought out, expertly crafted page with a clear compelling message that gets your ideal client to BUY (not everyone will, but most should buy in a way that leaves you with profits after product creation/marketing/ad spend).

    3. TRAFFIC:
Next you need to figure out a way to drive your ideal prospect to your opt-in page so they can get access to whatever cool thing it is you're offering. Drive traffic to a high converting opt-in page (a page that gets a lot of decision by prospects to give their contact for your 'bribe') and you're golden for getting a solid list of potential clients that you can sell to later.

There's obviously a few other things you need to do and extra considerations you need to make as an internet marketer, but every challenge you meet is easily surmountable - sometimes it's as simple as paying an outsourcer say $50?

    FINALLY
You have got to be relentless and absolutely laser-focused. You can't be inconsistent in IM; if you're a flakey bitch, people won't buy from you. You need to continually deliver good value to your prospects in a manner that generously compensates your efforts as well.
Be relentless. Never assume; measure everything! Test, tweak & optimize. Network with people who are walking the walk on the same journey as you!

    PM if you need help.

    Wish you the very best.

    -Jaz

Dude, you need to relax. You sound frustrated or something. IM can be accomplished by anyone so long as it is something they really want is my point here - everything I outlined in my reply post is something that can easily be learned. Simply put up a post on WF at every challenge you meet & you will very likely get help, because the IM community is a very helpful one. Seriously, you will find a solution from some benevolent guy on WF. Even if you don't - are you willling to let that rob you of success in IM?

It's just for the most part (as with anything requiring initiative), people do not take action - then blame in on some bullshit (pardon my spanish).

I still maintain, that anybody can succeed in IM if they want it bad enough - it takes
        1. Consistent, persistent hard work (obviously)
        2. An understanding of the overall framework of IM (which i just posted for FREE)
        3. A personal strategy & gameplan that revolves around a solid understand of IM in general
        4. Action

That's all. Now if they don't want to do this; then that's their own problem & they will not succeed in this business. But so long as they are willing to do these things & want success bad enough, anyone will succeed in internet marketing. It's not rocket science.

    Definitely man!

I think it's laziness, lack of persistence and the deepest factor of not being in touch with why we want success that holds most beginners back in IM marketing.

Also, guru dick-sucking is another problem. It's like people don't realize that all the GURU did was TAKE MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF ACTIONS through which he learn't the valuable lessons you're now paying so much for (a couple of hundred bucks at the very least). Take action, adapt, survive, thrive. Measure everything, track every thing, tweak & optimize = Make money. IM is scientific ACTION; know all the science won't do your pocket any good if you don't take action, for you analysis paralysis guys. LOL. We love you, but stop the mental marinating, please. Do something.

Lastly, people won't stick to & master one skill in IM. I know I fell prey to this (breaking out of that funk, thank God) in the beginning lol... But yo, I got a solid plan now & I'm sticking to it. No more shiny object syndrome: spend your money on your IM business where it's needed.

PS: There's also the cheapskates who don't wanna invest the time or money into their IM education & business - seriously, get outta here & go join the 9 to 5 already.

    Rant over.

Absolutely not. I mean, anybody can get lucky and make a few bucks online but to earn a sustainable living takes a lot of persistence and hard work. Most people would rather just watch TV.

That's why the failure rate is so enormous.

What criteria make something for someone or not for someone isn't entirely clear. If you mean that anyone could succeed at it, though ... yes, of course, they could. Outside of extreme cases like trying to become an Olympic sprinter when you badly injured your leg in a car accident ... anyone can accomplish anything.

Their current work ethic, beliefs, motivation and other things that influence their success are all malleable and can be updated as needed to suit their goal. It could be said that some are closer to a goal: it's easier for them than others, but predisposition isn't the same as predestination. If you really want it, you can take the steps to get it.

For anyone who is unsure of what those steps would be, it helps to have a mentor. Whether that is a person you physically meet, someone you meet online, or someone you meet simply through their books, courses, and other written or video materials. A mentor can help guide you through the process, because they've themselves done it. You'll need to first make sure that they truly know their stuff, of course (not all mentors do). But once you're sure of that, you can give them your full attention.

I think most people would agree with you that anyone who gets into IM will be able to build a full time business from scratch as long as they fulfill those multiple factors you mention.

There are certain things you NEED before you will see success- first you need understanding and direction, you need determination and perseverance, you need focus and commitment to a plan that has been proven to work, you need to take action, and you need to be adaptable and open to evolving with the times. You also need time and patience or money to invest.

Not everyone has these abilities. So I guess you could say that Internet Marketing is for anyone who is willing to do what it takes to succeed -- Like Malteaser mentioned, those who want it bad enough will eventually find their way to success.

There's a saying that goes, Where there's a will there's a way, and I think that is especially true in the internet marketing world.

    Nope.

Alot of people go from 1st grade - 12th grade *prepped* for a good "financial future". Shouldn't these be the same people who should be leading scientists, physicists, doctors, lawyers, athletes, or even business owners?

Just because someone has the potential to do great in life (no matter where they're from or their background)... alot of people just want to settle for mediocrity... which basically means sex, drugs, and a $12/hour wage.

No, not everyone can make it in this business in my opinion.

    Why?

Because not everyone WANTS to work online?

Even the people that THINK it looks great fall by the wayside after a few months of scraping by.

Setting up ANY biz is HARD WORK - can ANYONE do it?

YES, IF they have enough reasons and are absolutely determined to do so.

    To answer your question though:

    "Is Internet Marketing for everybody?"

The answer would have to be "No!"

    All the best,

I've tried to get a couple of my friends into IM. They were all amazed and thought one makes tons of money online just clicking a few buttons and sipping a drink by the beach.

Once they found out it requires work, that you must take action, that success doesn't always come fast, almost ALL of them quit.

Not everybody is ready to work for it.

I think anyone CAN do internet marketing, but it definitely takes an entrepreneurial mindset. I've worked in all kinds of jobs in my life and always tried to inspire people to work for themselves because it's exciting to me. What I've found is that many people don't want to be an entrepreneur. This seems contradictory to my way of thinking because I'm definitely not like that, but I can see why people think this way. I've had several people tell me they just want to show up somewhere, collect a paycheck, and go home. They told me they prefer a job because of the security. The reality is that you are never secure if you work for someone else...you are always under their thumb and their whims. I was laid off last year myself after 11 1/2 years at a company. When you work for yourself, you are in control.

Not really. Not everyone can get into politics and become G.Washington. Not everyone with a knowledge of C++ can become Ankit Fadia. Not everyone with a running shoe can become Usain Bolt.

Truly successful people don't choose professions and then "decide" to make it big. It's actually the contrary. If you have certain skill sets you will make it big in a certain business with perseverance. Same for IM business.

I think it's for everybody that has a businessperson's mind and world view.

If they see the world in a businessman's way, then they're constantly looking for opportunities to earn money in a NON-hourlywage-way.

The internet marketing game is just a way of conducting business.

And I think it's an awesome way to do business, considering that you basically can build a sales funnel and start driving traffing to it... Then you don't have to play with the sales funnel a lot any more...

Where as non internet business you have to either sell to every customer every time...Or you have to hire someone to do it.

But still - every sales interaction needs to be done manually.

I love internet marketing, because the sales are pretty much automatic after setting the funnel up

So yeah I think everybody with a businesspersons' mindset can be successful in this game.

    Good luck,

Yes anyone CAN. But do they actually have wheat it mentally takes?

    Most, do not.

For example... Most people try one thing a couple times then deem with
authority that "this does not work"

When in fact the most successful companies in the world have a success rate
    of about 20%.

Let me ask you, would you want to play guitar like Jimmy Hendrix...
and play the guitar a couple of times, then not sounding like him...
deem that it does not work?

Because this is the attitude of a lot of newbie IM'ers. Which
is honestly sad in my opinion.

For me personally, it took YEARS before I got things right. But now
guess what? Now I'm making a full time living online, because I KNEW
that you had to STICK IT OUT and essentially practice/fail a whole crap
load of times before I got successful.

You'd think this would be a easy concept to grasp, but most people miss
the point completely and want to "get rich quick" with the most emphasis on
    quick.

Let me phrase is a different way... Most people want the "event" of being rich.
Which not understanding that its a process. And even if you understand its a
process, most of you are not willing to go through that process, you just want
    the event.

Change your mindset on this issue. And also how you RELATE to money,
and I guarantee you, you will be successful.

Internet marketing is important for every person and company who wants to create a strong online presence. However, stay away from following the traditional online marketing methods. Concentrate on publishing great content, concentrate on social media, concentrate on building relationships and thins will start falling in place.

I say, yes, but it definitely comes down to multiple factors. What do you guys think?
Yes, anybody can get into the internet marketing business. The basic goal of Internet marketing is to generate more leads for your business. It puts your company's website in front of the right audience. From blogging and social media, effective Internet marketing drives more quality traffic to your site. And when you have more traffic, you get more business.

I think it can be for everybody, but it isn't. What I mean is, some people have to transform themselves first to be able to consistently take action towards their goals.

What percentage of people will get up in the morning and not only want to read how to do business online, but actually put stuff into action?

I think anyone can do internet marketing, but they first have to develop true motivation for it...fill the gaps of knowledge and skills, that they don't possess yet. Put everything learned into action, learn from mistakes/failures, and keep going..

All it really takes is to model after experts who are already making it. You have to really pay attention to what they are doing, how they are doing it, and emulate it...fill in the gaps you are missing and keep improving.

I believe there is the 80/20 rule.

meaning only 20 people combined income of the top earner make more than the remaining 80 people combined.

However in internet marketing, only 5% of the population are able to make it as an Full Time Internet Marketer.

    So which one are you?

Absolutely NOT !! Sorry. I know that sounds like a debbie downer. But from my observation of other human beings around me ......well iam just being truthful.

Many people just do not have the aptitude or the entrepreneurial spirit to make it a go.

In my opinion, you need to have a certain amount of skill set in writing and communicating with others.

Many people just do not have this , and they do not have the patience or mindset to want to acquire this trait

Making money is easy, making consistent money will end up being more difficult.

I always believed everyone in this world can do anything (outside of genetic limitations) if we want it bad enough and are willing to follow through with it.

It takes faith in yourself which many people do not have.

Yeah, seems like being a newbie at IM is like getting on the roller-coaster of exhilaration and disappointment with a bit of progress somewhere in the middle. Another dynamic that drives this are promise and expectations that one might actually make a living at IM. I guess as long as you can get past the hyperbole that washes over most of these WSOs or other ops (ClickBank, JVZoo, etc., maybe you have a chance at making something work by "taking action".

The "some are better than others" fact-of-life / statement also does not help. This does not mean one should give up. But, it could help if there were some criteria or skills guide on what traits would be best suited for this type of IM opp or that kind of marketing. Otherwise typically, it could also be a perpetual roll-of-the-dice for the unlucky ones.

However, it's better than the alternatives - job, public service, or maybe even school, if it works out right because of the challenge, higher-ceiling rewards and maybe even prestige from successful IM. So, why not?

To succeed in I'M you need some of the conditions mentioned in this thread - faith, trust, self confidence, right mindset, persistence, be ready to work a lot, some tech skills, etc - but at the end of the road you'll find that to really make it, you'll need a bunch of money along your way to success. The more money you have to spend in this biz, the higher and faster you'll arrive. No money or on a tight budget? don't dream too much.

I know from experience that you can't just try your own thing and except results. You have to be willing to learn from others that are successful & use the same techniques in order to make any money online.

No IM is in my opinion not for everyone, for the following reasons...

Isolation from working with people in person.
    High competition.
    Very little regulation or oversight.

However, the three reasons I have listed above can all be positive attributes depending on who you are and what you prefer.

Internet marketing is certainty open to everybody, but the success rate is very low. There are number of factors for this. Many people who get into internet marketing keep jumping from product to product, many people don't stick with something, they give up too soon.
Internet marketing is a business where you do not have face to face contact with your customer, you depend on the written word to sell for you, and many people can't write well, so I am not sure it's for everyone

It's not for everyone even if it is open for everyone. Most people don't go into business for themselves because it's hard. Internet Marketing is hard also, and it's also a business if you are doing it correctly.

People think it's easier than running a "normal" local business because sellers of IM strategies, methods, and tools pitch it to potential buyers that it's easy. But the fact is that IM is easier to get started only...it's not always easier to make a full time income from it, though it can be for those with the right mindset, persistence and ability to learn and adapt.

It's been said again and again, but it really is true that if IM were easy there would be many more newbies getting in the game and achieving success quickly, and that is not happening.

Some people start off in IM with a negative mindset and that negativity just keeps growing. Those that learn each day, put in the hard work, take action, optimize their squeeze/sales pages, generate traffic and do what needs to be done consistently and persistently, see results. They have the right mindset and know how to succeed.

      Yes and no.

Yes, technically it is for everyone. The range of money-making options is vast. Fiverr, better than anything else, shows that there is a digital market for everything.

But also no, because to succeed in IM you need to be vigorous and honest in your self-assessment skills, and not many do that or are capable of it. Whether it's poorly-written Kindle books, third-rate Photoshop design, outdated and generic IM products, unreadable affiliate sites, or a lack of attention to statistics, most who dabble in marketing rarely play to their actual strengths.
