INTERNET MARKETING

Hey everybody. I just added a donation button to my website in order to raise funds for advertising it with shares. I was just wondering if anybody has ever tried this and what kind of results they have had? I was thinking about using GoFundMe but hate to ask for money when there are much more desperate people on there. I think this may be a good idea though and have been using a WordPress plugin called MoreSharesForYou for getting the ball rolling on them. I've had pretty good results and they even refunded them one time I had my campaign paused. Just wanted to share this with everybody and wish me luck. I would love to share my site with as many people as possible and show them the right ways to make money online. Thanks

I tried a donation button on my mobile app which has thousands of users on a daily basis..
Guess what? Only 1 donation of 3$ from about 15000 clicks to the donation page.
I took it down, obviously.
But don't take my words for granted, because all my traffic was on mobile + 3rd tier countries.
So you may get better results.

They're weak. Seriously. You'd be much better off knowing what your traffic wants and showing the an affiliate offer.

That might work for a church or a charity, but not for you. BTW, if you need to be begging for money. Hey, that is not a good sign.

I've seen people try everything from donation buttons to tip jars to buy me a beer features. Unfortunately, it never works unless you're a non-profit. Even then, online donations from strangers are extremely rare. Consider monetizing your audience via ads or affiliate links, as Tom Addams mentioned. Best of luck!

Not a good idea if you are in the MMO niche.... ie: You want to show/teach people how to make money online but at the same time you're begging for donations?

  I've tried donation buttons on a few different occasions (mostly with software products), and they never worked for me.
  
  I did have some success in making some money off of users that didn't want to pay for a product using a service (can't remember the name now) that would allow them to complete CPA offers in exchange for the software.
  
  The company gave me a cut of the payout, and I gave the end user a copy of the software for "free."

  You joke, Robert, but this used to be a thriving niche. lol No idea if it still is. I remember reading discussions about it on one forum or other; the techniques involved. I think someone read the Bum Marketing Method and got the wrong idea!

You will hardly get any visitor who would donate some dollars.. you should focus on AdSense.

Hey everybody. Still in the beginning stages with the site and it is only 3 months old. I'm willing to keep it up for a year to see how it goes but it still takes time. I know the potential that it could be if I keep at it & was doing the donations as sharing is caring funds. It is not necessary that expensive to buy the shares (ordered 400 real shares for $29 last night). It was just an idea because I saw the success that people were having with GoFundMe. All well, maybe someday it will help me

you just reminded me that I had a paypal donate button on one of my old sites, just went back to check and Woalah! 0 donated in 3 years!

I did just have a modest little icon in the corner though, didn't ask or anything!

I went ahead and updated the button and think it looks better. Still don't see why everyone thinks a donation is begging for money anymore than GoFundMe.

  Be careful, I came up with that brilliant idea many years ago, I got zero donations, but I did get a friendly note from the local I.R.S district office.
  
  The officer just wanted to know why I'm asking for donations for an obvious commercial website.
