This is very true Elmo. Although I don't care much if people thank me or not (even though it can never hurt to do so ). What is even more annoying is when you give them advice personally and then they do not use any of it to their advantage.

Even when you offer some people a silver platter they tend to eat off another plate. At the end of the day I can give advice and try to help if you are not going to take it is your loss!

A lot of warriors come here on a daily basis and give a lot of useful advice. The problem is that most newer members will read these helpful posts but never take action on what they learn. They just don't think or believe that they can succeed too.

Most of us don't really care if someone won't press the THANKS button. When you help people out and give the best advice you can, after you close the computer you actually feel good about helping others.

Thanks for responding to my one and only rant everyone. I think more than anything I was annoyed by was the fact that people come on here and you can just tell they're not even trying.

They just want to waste everyone's time or make people feel sorry for them. It's just like several of you've pointed out, they just post, and hit he door.

Anyway, I feel better since I ranted.

The way I see it is that if someone takes the time to write out a well-thought post with enough information to give them a good answer, I'll go ahead and answer the question to the best of my ability. And I really don't care if they thank my post or reply because ultimately, the comment probably helped others as well and that's what we are all here for (or supposed to be here for).

Now, I agree with the OP as well though...not replying with thanks is rude and it clearly shows where the person's mentality is at, so I usually won't follow up with additional advice if the poster goes, "Well, what about this...." Because then they're acting like everyone here owes them something and that's just not cool. At the same time though, it really bothers me when someone posts, "How do I make money online" and people write 5-10 detailed paragraphs trying to help that person out. They're obviously not going to do anything with that information if they know nothing about the industry though, and that makes me want to rant too.

In short, people should not take kindness for weakness here and they should show appreciation for great advice...especially when its specific. Just don't hold your breath waiting for that to happen.

I agree with not liking drive by posters posting their sob stories, people trying to help out, and then the poster disappearing.

I don't agree that giving thanks has anything to do with it for a couple reasons.

1. I don't like when people ask to be thanked or expect to be thanked. It just doesn't sit right by me. Many times I might have thanked someone but didn't solely because the poster said something like "hit thanks if this helped you." As a matter of fact I don't think I've ever thanked someone when asked to. Where I come from, thanks is earned - not asked for. And whether it's earned or not is decided by the receiver - not others.

Having said that I use the thanks button but just not as much as some people.

2. Many of these one time posters don't know how to put their signature in place, don't know how a forum works, have never taken part in a forum, etc. We get many threads that ask, for example, "how can I thank someone for posting good advice" when the button is right there in black and white. Holding them accountable for knowing this and refusing to help if they don't hit a button again just bothers me a little.

Like I said I agree with the ungrateful behavior being unbecoming. I believe that most of these types of posts will never make anything because of their attitude.

I have many times been direct with these posters - not to try to be rude but to be helpful. Just last week I was called a "pretentious prick" by someone for truly trying to help. How's that for thanks?

It's kind of sad that everybody is looking for a way to make $10000 overnight without realizing that it either takes alot of money towards advertising or a ton of content and backlinks in order to even get 10000 people to see what you have. The 1st thing they should be worried about is getting good traffic to their offers and then the money should start coming in

Or they get attacked and accused of being full of sh*t - which makes many not want to even bother contributing any more.

I've gotten into several "debates" with those types in this place after providing what I thought was solid value (based on actual personal experience) without asking for anything in return (via sig files selling something).

But the way I see it is if and when I decide to contribute with actual value, if it benefits just one person and helps them move forward in their business, and dare I say make a lot of money, I feel it was worth dealing with the negativity to be a catalyst for that result.


P.S. I personally don't care about getting "thanks," just really want to help those who want to be helped.

Personally, the button "Thanks" isn't that huge of a thing, but it does let the poster know that you've at least looked at his response. (Kinda like the "LIKE" butt on FB.) I really do believe saying thanks personally is HUGE. I've gotten some of the best responses from people like that.

Dear friends.

Thanks so much to all of you for responding to my OP. I really did read all of them and I do appreciate you.

I see many people on here that go way out of their way to help others and to encourage them and that's why I like this forum.

I guess the reason why I felt so compelled to write this, was because I believe that all of you are important. And I really believe that if we treat people with kindness and a certain degree of care without any gain for ourselves all of the time, that it adds a certain quality to our character.

Maybe that's more important than becoming rich, but that's for you to decide. I do know that this type of behavior sticks out like a sore thumb in a world where money seems to dominate everything.

Here's two instances that occurred in my life that was related to my Internet business dealings.

Years ago I had an online embroidery business and my niche was music instrument apparel. I sold trombone hats that said "Bad to the Bone" with a Trombone embroidered on them, embroidered flute shirts that said "Fluteaholic" on them. All my business was online through eBay and my own e-commerce website. I designed and digitized all of the apparel and they had a beautiful design to them as well as the motto.

Well, I sold a lot of this stuff and one day I got this email from this lady telling me that her daughter loved the hat I made for her. It was real cool design of a trumpet with flames behind it. She told me that my product was so good that her daughter was wearing it to school every day. Unfortunately, it got stolen because the other kids wanted it.

She thought I should know how popular my stuff was.

Anyway, it felt great that people actually liked my stuff, however, I felt really bad for the kid, so I sent another one on to them for free. I paid for everything and even sent them a short hand written note.

Well, I got another email from the lady a week or so after I sent the hat and she was ecstatic. She told me that she actually cried when she got the hat because she couldn't afford to buy her daughter another one. I guess she was a single mom living on the fringe.

She told me she was stunned that someone wasn't out for just the money.

I've since folded that business, but I never forgot that lady and her daughter and I'll lay money that they didn't forget the kind/weird stranger that gave them a gift for no reason.

So for those you that get it, please continue to keep helping people on here , because even though you don't get many thanks in return for your expertise and time, there are people that will never forget your kindness.

I hope you don't think I'm saying this stuff because I;m trying to be some sort of weirdo-saint or something like that. Ha-ha, because my wife will tell you that I'm not!

Okay, I'll play along with story time.

I was in college and took a job at a local pizza restaurant to have some extra cash, and one of my first days there the owner says, "Everyone get in the back of my pick-up...we're going couponing." Now, I honestly thought he was kidding because who does such a thing, but out everyone goes to hop into the owner's truck so I followed along. And what he'd do is drop two of us off at the start of a neighborhood block and then pick us up at the other end....and he'd drive from block to block picking people up and letting them back out. We'd knock out a square mile in like 15 minutes doing this, leaving flyers on everyone's doorstep.

Well, the very first house I go to, this woman cusses me out. "I don't want no F^%king coupons, get off my lawn you little s*$t." So I thought wow...this is how it's going to be. Awesome.

So I hit a few more houses without issue, and home #4 had an old guy in his 60's trying to plant a tree in his front yard. He didn't have enough hands though to balance the little tree, work the shovel and pack the dirt so I dropped my coupons and helped him. We chatted for a bit afterwards and I never thought twice about him.

Now let's fast-forward nine years. Yup, nine. I've dropped out of college by then, taken the store manager job, opened my own location in a different town and took the regional manager title for all the stores as well. It's a Friday night, I'm short staffed and we're getting absolutely hammered in our six o'clock rush, so I'm making pizzas, answering phones and talking to pick-up customers at a lightning pace.

So in walks this old man and orders something...and I'm making it as he's ordering because I can't even stop to get up to the counter to write it down. Six minutes later, his pizza comes out, I box it, slice it and rush up to the counter...and one of my drivers collides right into me. The pizza goes flying. Crap. So I apologize to the guy and make the pizza again, promising that I'm not going to charge him for it once it's ready.

Well, by the time the 2nd pizza comes out we've slowed down a lot, so I hand the old guy the pie and insist that I won't take any money for it. He smiles though and says that I must not remember him, and then he shows me the photo of his house with this big-ass tree in the front yard. It didn't mean anything to me but then he says, "Son, you helped me plant that tree nine years ago in my yard and you told me it was your first day with the company. It really impressed me that you'd risk getting in trouble with your boss to help an old guy out. I've ordered pizza from you ever since. Every time you changed stores with a promotion, I've changed stores with you and only ordered on nights you were working. I tell every person I know that you personally make the best pizzas on the planet, and I'm thrilled at how you've succeeded over the years."

Well, I was shocked to say the least...and embarrassed that I didn't remember him until he told the story. He passed away 3 years ago but we did become friends beforehand.

I was blown away though...I never imagined that one random act of kindness could mean so much to someone. And I guess that's why I've always tried to "pay it forward" with writers online and now with my own business. If a person calls/emails and asks a direct question, I'll happily give a direct answer before I even know if they are a customer. You'd be amazed at how many massive clients I've landed that way, and that's why I never mind helping out here. Because one way or the other, it all comes back to us for doing the right thing.

Wow, I just wrote a small book...sorry! Hopefully you guys find a little inspiration in that though.

I don't know if it's still like this, but the thanks button was not available for new accounts until they had more than x posts. It might have been that they didn't even have access to the button yet.

I'm not sure about most, but if I don't have anything valuable to add to the conversation, I keep my mouth shut. I haven't been on the forum in quite some time. Though I've learned and done a lot since then.

Thank you for this post... I started my business here back in 2010 - I learned everything I know today about IM here and met some great people, who go out of their way to help me and others. I just know that it always works when we pay it forward. I now try to do the same for anyone who is starting out and will always keep time for them. Anyway nice pay it forward video I saw on FB . Thanks again for the great post.

Strange, my thanks button disappeared again. It may just be the quirks of the forum or some strange unwritten/hidden rule saying once you get your button you can only use it y times per day, so long as it doesn't exceed a ratio of a:b with your posts.

Basically, if you don't see thanks from me, it's not because I didn't find enough value in your post to thank you. It's because I haven't gotten my button back and I'm not one to say "Great post."

I actually want to take this further. From this week onwards, I am going to start my own" pay it forward" day. I have plans to do small things to get going. I am not writing this here to brag about being a good person or so...just hope a lot of us can do it and soon it can bring quality to each others lifes.

So plan of action this week.

Buy lunch for two and share it with a homeless and spend my lunch break with him or her...

Some people are just way to busy to post on forums, some find time for it. You can never judge by that.
