In wordpress, to use blog post or actual pages?

I cant decide what I want to use, The "POST", or the "physical page" on creating content.

I really dislike the look of the "POST" as it puts the normal 90's style "written by....on this date...."

But I do like the plugins that rotate through posts, and it seems like it would be easier.

What are the PROS and CONS of these functions?
Do you know how I can remove the header "written by..blablabla" from the POST?
Any good plugins that you recommend.

I have the DROPOUT theme, but Im not sure if Im really liking that either, seems to have some issues with color.

Any recommendations?

I used posts, tried both ways and sites with posts did better for me, with the tags and everything.

I remove what I want out of the code like date and author or search Google "remove author and date from wordpress posts plugin" There are a few that are easy to use.

I use pages for other things like, contact, tos, about, products..etc.

Pages are pages that don't really change... Terms of Service, Privacy, About Me type pages.

Then post are where you are posting new content to your site.

A blog is just like a Facebook page, the only difference is FB has a news feed built in...

        But anyway...

When you update your FB timeline that is considered a post.

Which can be a picture, text, or a video

Posting regularly to your site helps keep the visitors that come to your site engaged and they are less likely to leave your site quickly and will return back if you have updated content.

If you have just a site with 5 pages that never updates, then once someone shows up to your site and reads your 5 pages of basic content why would they come back?

Plus GOOGLE loves regularly updated content to your site.

Also the author is used if you have multiple writers for your site or you just want to brand yourself.

I think the Date is an ABSOLUTE...

People who visit your site like to see that it's current and updated regularly this is great thing not a bad thing.

Remember your site is not just to make money its all about the people who visit your site and your true job is to provide value to them with valuable content.

POST are more like articles and PAGES are more for static pages.

Actually there's not much difference except that like you said. Some plugins work better with posts and some with pages... I use posts on my blog... But I took off the dates: you can see my how I did it on my blog: geneadam.com

Also what I did was I made a thinner viewable area for posts because it's easier to read... So my posts are thinner and my pages are wider...

    Hope this helps...

I think the standard is to use posts for the most part and use pages for "top level" type pages that will introduce topics and link to posts. Yoast has some great content on the use of pages and posts. Also about the use of pages in what they term "cornerstone" content. A quick google and you will find them. Take a look.

Removing the "written by" etc. should not be an issue. I have not looked at the code for your particular theme but feel free to message me and I can take a look.

Yea, thats what I thought on the idea of the pros/ cons.
Eugene, I could not find that post on your site. It also appears that this theme doesnt really match up with a lot of the how to videos, as Im having hard times finding the proper code.

Adrian, I cannot message you due to not enough posts on my behalf.

  • You can hide the 'written by' section via CSS for your child theme.
Or you can use a WP plugin to remove those sections.
Or you can definitely ask for support from the author of this theme.

Use a premium WP theme like you'll find at StudioPress. The Genesis framework has many advantages and is very stable. Sure, this route will cost a little (but not much) but it's worth the money to have a professional looking and acting site. You are in business, right?

Use posts for you content, pages for AboutMe, Terms of Service, Contact, Policies etc (these won't change much over time).

It's easy, as others have said, to remove author, date, etc.

You can change the layout of posts easily if you don't like how they look.

You don't choose between writing on posts or pages. It's like choosing between apples and bananas...

Posts are there for your regular articles, updates, news and anything else that you want to let your readers know about. However, pages are for content that doesn't really need updating. For example, as others mentioned, it could be the "Contact Us" page or the "Privacy Policy" or possibly a page about yourself, etc.

    Thanks everyone for the reply's

That is what I figured with the differences, I just like to hear other peoples perspective who are successful at this venture.

I do use a premium theme, "I use the same one on another site that I own strictly for my Amazon sellers account" and really all that is on the site is contact info for any perspecting customers doing a search on my seller name, which I might add I should most certainly do something with also because I do think by looking at some stats, that my theory is right on the visitors.

So I decided to use the same premium theme in a niche site that I wanted to start, and finding its functionality kinda quirky. Im sure Ill figure out its issue, just frustrating to say the least.

I seen the WP date remover plugin, tried it and it didnt compat with this theme either....so dont know what thats all about.
