Effective Affiliate Programs

Give your best example of making good money through an affiliate program... Looking for specific examples of successful affiliate campaigns - the process, the offer, the traffic channel.

I suspect that there is a lot of fluff out there and not many folks making good money in affiliate marketing.

What has worked for you? Show us your game.

Great idea - would be to start a blog that outlines ONLY successful use cases making money using affiliate marketing techniques.

There are lots of affiliate systems that are genuine and work, but many people just don't put in the time nor effort to be successful.

They join and don't expect to have to pay for traffic, or if they want free traffic they can't be bothered.

I use a system where there is an intial front low end cost that progresses into upsells/downsells and then high ticket with coaches doing the selling.

    Works perfect.

There are ton of affiliate systems, which make me money, some more than others. You just gotta know the right traffic channels and am always hunting for new ones.

I will give you an example.

I took a product of Clickbank around 3 months ago. I contacted the affiliate owner and he said he was just about to scrap it since he had only made 20 odd sales in 12 months. I said, leave it running for around 2 weeks, increase your commission percentage from 75% to 90% and i will make you some money!

I set up a proper landing page with opt-in (i don't believe in double-opt-ins) setup my auto responders, etc etc and within a week of sending some quality traffic to it, we had made $5000. And to this day, it is STILL making me money!

This is the thing, there are ALOT of products out there and the actual advertiser is effin clueless on how to market. They jump on all the hype of Clickbank, JVZoo, etc etc, make a product and they are clowns when it comes to marketing it! They think their product is all great and it will sell itself! NO ITS NOT! You need to get quality traffic to it, yes its a good product, but if you can't sell it, you mat as well trash it!

I did something similar for an Udemy product a month ago and its still making me money today. Which reminds me i need to scale this product up!

    Good luck!

PS: Am thinking of making "The No BS Guide To Marketing a BS Affiliate Product", since all the ones i have seen are total BS. They tell you eff all and try and get you to go on a coaching course, with $1000+ ticket items! Sorry i don't believe in that!

The problem with copying a successful campaign too closely is that the copycat often ends up sadder but wiser - and poorer.

The conditions that may have created the successful campaign often change. Many times simply because the initial campaign is out there, and the copycat becomes a 'me too' effort.

      I will. It's super easy.

I've been doing it since 2008 and it works like gangbusters.

It goes a little something like this:

Pick a profitable niche. I'm in the "blogging/WP plugins/IM software/make money online" category.

Set up a squeeze page with a really great lead magnet (not some junk PLR). Put a little work into it and make an original product or video to give away. It's not that difficult. If you don't know how to do it, then learn. I taught myself, so that means you can teach yourself.

I have a very simple funnel. After people opt-in, I send them to a very good affiliate product that pays a recurring commission. These are not hard to find. There are several well known ones that actually fulfill their promises to buyers. You need to find one of those. This product is great for newbies and helps people to get started, so it's a good product to introduce your new subscribers to right away.

Some people will say that it's no good to send a new opt-in right to a sales page. It works well for me so I don't really care what they say or think.

My "welcome" email will contain a link to the download page for my lead magnet. The lead magnet I created is an original video where I outline the main theory of affiliate marketing, talk a little bit about I got started, and of course, I plug the initial product that I promoted to them after they opted in.

Underneath the video I also list the resources I use for my own business, which are, of course, affiliate links for hosting, autoresponders, domains, click tracking software, etc. If they purchase any of those services through my links, that turns into recurring income as well.

Finally, underneath those links are two "bonus" products, which go to squeeze pages of two marketers I work very closely with. They also have a banner to my squeeze page on their download pages. This is called "funnel swapping," and it produces massive amounts of traffic to my squeeze page because the two marketers I partner with are very experienced and get a lot of subscribers just like I do.

Also, the two marketers give away a top quality lead magnet that only helps improve my trust with my new subscribers. Some people will say that's not a good thing to do because now they will be on two other marketer's lists. Again, it works great for me and my partners, so I could care less what other people say or think about it.

Now, there are 7 main ways I get traffic to my squeeze page. I'll list them in order of volume and the amount of subscribers they produce:

      1. Solo ads (20% of my total sales are invested back into solo ads) - You have to spend money to make money, and that's a fact. You need to keep a high volume of fresh leads coming into your funnel. I usually buy in the area of 5,000 - 7000 clicks a month and my squeeze page converts at around 47%. This brings in approximately 2300-3200 new subscribers per month. I have close to 100 different proven sellers that I buy from.

      2. Funnel swaps - As I said, I partner with two other successful marketers. This results in roughly 1000-1200 new subscribers per month.

      3. Free WSOs - These are a still a great way to get fresh subscribers, but you have to give away something of great value. They don't work as well as they used to, but they still work pretty well for me. They are good for 200-400 new subscribers per month.

      4. Bonus spots - This is something that a new affiliate will not be able to get right away. "Bonus spots" are usually given to successful affiliates by product vendors in exchange for the affiliate promoting their latest launch. They will offer you a spot on the download page of their new launch to put a banner or link to your squeeze page. These are awesome because they are BUYER leads. I get offered a few of these every month and on the average I can get anywhere from 200-300 new subscribers per month.

      5. JV Giveaways - People think these subscribers stink and that they are all "freebie seekers." Well, many of them are just that. However, there are lots of good ones in there as well that buy. Good for 100-200 new subscribers per month.

      6. YouTube videos - I have around 75 live videos that bring in anywhere from 50-100 new subscribers per month. I could spend more time on this, and it's one of my goals for the future.

      7. My blog - My blog doesn't get a lot of traffic. It's a review blog, though, and t does make me some money every month in addition to bringing in approximately 40-50 new subscribers every month. This is another project that could use a little TLC. I'm working on it.

So, there you have it. There is nothing difficult about it.

You want to know the real secret? HARD WORK!

It took me TWO YEARS of working 12-14 hours a day on my business before I was able to sustain myself on my online business alone.

However, it was well worth it, and it paid off. I am a top 1% Warrior Plus affiliate and probably in the top 5% at JVZoo (they don't tell you so I can't say for sure). There are many vendors that belong to this forum that I have done promotions for and finished in the top 10 in their affiliate contests.

I'm not bragging. I'm only saying that to let you know it is possible, but you have to work at it, and you have to work LONG and HARD at it!

Those of you who think you are going to jump into affiliate marketing and start earning $5000 a month within 30 days or even a few months are in for a rude awakening.

There is no "magic system." Only hard work. And list building. You MUST build a list.

A list will be your number one asset and your best business tool for the whole time you are an affiliate marketer.

Also, you don't have to launch products. I have launched a few products, but 95% of my income comes from affiliate sales.

If you are a newbie, my advice would be to try and find someone who could mentor you, and to start building that list right away. Get yourself a domain and some hosting and get a funnel set up. It doesn't have to be perfect. Just get it up. You will learn as you go.

Believe me, when I first started building a list I had no idea what I was doing. I don't even want to reveal what my conversion rates were (probably around 10%). The point is that I was DOING something, and not just talking about it.

Get in there and do it. If you make mistakes, learn from them and move on.

      One last thing...

This business is NOT for the faint of heart or those that give up at the first sign of difficulty. If that's you, I suggest you try something else.

BUT, if you have a desire to succeed and a willingness to work hard and do whatever it takes, then you will find the most fulfilling business you could ever imagine!

I've been promoting CPA / Affiliate offers for over 16 years. I do things totally different than most.

I heavily promote PPL (pay per lead) offers, which simply lead generation offers. The reason why I prefer PPL, is because there is no credit card / purchase required to complete an offer. All a user has to do is filll out a form to generate a commission, so conversion rates are typically much higher that offer that require a purchase.

I favor PPL offers that have a make, get or save money angle / benefit to them, as they have typically worked the best for me. As they tend to have the greatest mass appeal, so the potential exists to produce high volume.

There are many PPL offers that pay $20-$60 per lead (some higher depending on the vertical) that work well on front-end campaigns. Offers that pay less, I will usually run on the back-end. I also run free signup (dating for example) and free trials +s&h (weight loss, ecig, etc...) as they tend to work pretty good. I also run a small number of offers that are purchases.

All the traffic that I generate, I do it through purchasing data (email), because I'm then building assets that I own and can market to them over and over. Compared to what most marketers do, which is to buy traffic that often ends up just producing a bunch of clicks that son't convert well. Or they use some free traffic strategy that may end up not even being worth the time they spent implementing it.

I buy fresh / targeted data that I know what the users are interested in and that a PPL offer exists that matches their interest. I generate real-time co-reg that targets specific PPl offers. I buy fresh/aged domain targeted data, but this is more complex and requires special tools / resources. Last but not least, I get rev-share data that is fresh / targeted, which I pay nothing for it upfront and split the revenue with the list owners.

You never want to buy data blindly. You always want to get a sample and test it and see what the quality is and how long it will likely take you to break-even on it. Then based on the result you could move forward and purchase or try and negotiate a lower price, so that it will potentially break-even quicker.

Anytime you buy data, it's never going to be as responsive as a highly targeted opt-in list you build. So you have to compensate with volume. This is not a big deal, because buying data is much faster and cheaper than you could ever build the same size list. The real key to making this work, is to always be collecting your opens / clickers and segmenting the data and remove the users that are unresponsive. This way you are then building smaller, but very responsive lists. That way you will eventually send less and make more, each time you mail.

Essentially, I'm monetizing the data, using PPL offers, because they offer the path of least resistance to generating conversions and converting the data into cash producing assets.

Obviously there is more to it, but it really does work. Everyone that I know that is in the business and knows what they are doing, does 6-7 figures. While that is a huge range, much comes down to ones abilities to scale and effectively manage the infrastructure that comes with scaling.

While not exactly what you were after. Something to think about.

To be honest: what you're looking for here is really expensive, because you basically ask people to reveal the secret they worked for really hard.

You can buy that [full campaigns] for IM markets, all other markets that are worth entering: Usually very expensive. Why would a successful niche marketer give it away for free? No way.

believe it or not, It's real real real!

however... with success comes new problems..

experience 1: Scrub a Dub Dub
I was an affiliate for a niche site and it's merch for a good long while even when it jumped from commission junction to shareasale.

I had a good rapport with my aff rep and I was able to increase my commission from 10% to 13%.

I was selling a lot of product but then ONE DAY my performance drastically dropped.

I tried to communicate with my aff rep but she was nowhere to be found, i was told that she was let go.. I was given a new aff rep and from that day forward my performance with that brand never recovered even though my end of things (site's popularity and traffic) just grew and grew.

    Was I being scrubbed? I don't know...

    experience 2: The Ghost Vendor
I found a CB product that was the only product in my niche that I could sell. I sold it on my thank you page and in my funnel. The gravity on this CB product was very low.. Maybe I was the only person selling it, I don't know..

anyways, I tried repeatedly to contact the product creator/vendor because I got a lot of customer feedback and i knew some simple things the vendor could do to improve on the product.

Even though, I was making this vendor money, the vendor never got back to me. I stopped selling her prints and started making my own and never looked back.

    experience 3: Customer Service Hell
I found a dropshipper for a high in demand physical product in my niche. She was also great at creating these types of products.

I contacted her and we went into business. I had the traffic and sales, once I got paid I sent her the order, she created it and sent it out. PLUS>>She also offered free shipping anywhere in the US.

Now, Im sure i wasn't the only person she was working with because she was that good at what she created.. so she must have been busy...As a result: I got a lot of late orders and delays..

the angry customers contacted me and said the worst of things.... I had to eat it because well, I gave myself the new job of customer service rep...

to make a long story short, i had to cut ties with her because she couldn't commit to one distributor.

So yea.. Once you make progress you're going to find new dragons to slay and villains to defeat.

    It's all a game,

If that's true, then you live an extremely sheltered life...which wouldn't surprise me in the least. Also, I rest my case, you came in here with hyperbole while claiming that I was doing the same. I've beaten this horse to death and then some. I've presented many facts, both in my last post, and around the forum. I have neither the patience, nor the inclination to explain this again...especially to people who don't know enough about the industry to even have an educated opinion. Stick to writing code, if you can even do that, and leave the heavy lifting to the men.

I could post screen shots of my earnings and sales stats, but then you could just say those were fake or I photoshopped them or stole them or what have you. I'm surely not going to give you access to my bank account or other financial records, so I can't prove it to you like that.

I'm not sure why you think that I have to come here and lie about it. I don't stand to gain anything by coming into this forum and making up lies. I'm not trying to push a product. I'm not trying to play myself off as a coach to get students. I didn't even give my real name. What reason do I have to lie?

I also don't understand why you are so quick to dismiss something that is proven to work for so many people.

Let me just ask you one question...

Is it really your position that affiliate marketing does not work at all and that nobody is making a comfortable living from it?

I mean, it's not all that difficult. I just laid out my whole strategy for you.

I explained exactly how many subscribers I add to my list every month and exactly how I do it.

And you are right about one thing. I don't make $100,000 a year, and as far as I know I never claimed to. However, I make a pretty good living and I'm content. The most important thing to me is to be my own boss and not have to go to a job that I dislike every day.

It's not making and absolute killing, and I'm certainly not rich, but I'm doing well for working 2-3 hours a day from my home and I like the freedom I have to do what I like when I like.

There are so many others making a lot more than I do, too.

I don't know. I'm not going to engage in an argument with you.

I guess you will believe what you want to believe. If you have tried and failed at it then I'm sorry but maybe you gave up too early?

Maybe you chose the wrong niche?

All I can say is that I will answer any questions you have and if you want I will show you my funnels, squeeze pages, etc.

I can even show you how to build a list and succeed in the niche I am in if you would be open to that.

I can prove to you I'm not lying, if you are open to listening to what I have to say.

Haha. I also thought the same thing. People will deny your proof no matter how we tried to be honest with them. Actually, to find out whether that person is an experienced entrepreneur or not is very easy this forum. All you need to do is view his/her previous posts and see what kind of advice being given in this forum. Some members keep denying here and there and talking like they know everything, because that particular methods didn't work for them. But if you look at their previous posts, all they did was wasting their time in off topic section. Some always give useful tips here and there.

Yes, through the years I've had several people call me a liar. It's funny because I never made outrageous claims of making millions or traveling the world sipping mixed drinks on the beach while making thousands. I always told the truth about myself. I'm doing pretty well. I make a decent, comfortable living. That's all.

It used to bother me at first when people would tell me that it wasn't possible to make money online. Even my own friends and family would doubt me. Some of them even accused me of doing illegal things to make the money I was making!

When I was challenged, I would always run around grabbing screen shots of my sales and posting them and trying to prove to them that I'm not a liar. After a while, I stopped doing that because I realized that no matter what proof I showed them they would just make up some other excuse as to how it can't be real and I made fake images or stole the images from someone else, etc.

Finally, I came to the realization that negative people are going to be negative, and haters are going to hate, and trolls are going to troll, and so on.

The only thing that really matters is that I know the real truth in my heart. All I can do is offer my help and support to others and try to answer their questions, but I don't have the power to make someone believe what they don't want to believe.

I have been successful doing this in giving away free products via a mailing list. When they go to collect there free product set up a sales funnel where there will be 3-5 related affiliate products they have to view before arriving to the page to download there product. Plus they will be on your mailing list so you can send them the same offers or even new ones. but keep in mind only send related niches from the product they signed up for.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

It's DEFINITELY NOT fake at all.

There are tens of thousands of people making a fantastic living as affiliate marketers, myself included.

Am I making millions? Well, no, but I am doing well enough that I am my own boss and don't have to go out and work for anyone else.

Can you make millions? Yes, it is rare but it is possible. Marketers like Frank Kern, Russell Brunson, and Ryan Deiss are certainly doing it.

If you are working all by yourself the way I am, chances of that happening are rare.

However, like I said, I do quite well and I'm happy with where I'm at, and my business does see small growth every year, so I'm content.

Somebody that comes out and just denounces the whole industry and says it's fake and it's BS is usually just somebody who failed at it because they were not willing to put in the time and effort it takes to succeed.

All you have to do is go to Warrior Plus and JVZoo and look at some of the vendor's sales stats and see the tens of thousands of products they've sold to know people are making money.

Thanks for the info, nicheblogger. I'm curious, after 2 years of hard work, what was the approximate profit level where you decided your online business was sufficient to sustain you? I always wonder how long it would take before an online business could consistently earn USD $6-7k/month (net, but before tax).

I'm a single guy with no children, so for me I decided that I would quit my job and just focus on my online business when my online business matched what I was making from my job.

The job I held at the time was as an Assistant Food & Beverage Manager at a local golf resort and timeshare. I was paid a salary there of $34,000 annually.

I never really got the chance to quit my job, because about a year or so after starting my online business I was laid off due to the decline in business. The economy was bad at the time and the hospitality industry suffered terribly.

It was at this time that I decided not to get another job and to try and concentrate on my online business full time. At this time I was not making enough from my business to sustain myself, so I made the very difficult decision to move back in with my parents and dedicate all of my free time to my online business. Needless to say, my parents and other members of my family thought I was crazy and wasting my time, but I was already making some money with my list, so I knew all I had to do was work my butt off and scale up my business enough to support myself.

I lived with my parents for almost a year and a half before I built my online business up enough so that I was making what I had made at my job. I was making roughly $3000 a month at this time.

So from start to finish it took me approximately two and a half years to build my business up from $0 to $3000 per month.

I'm making more than that now, and like I said, I'm content. I see roughly 2%-3% revenue growth every year.

So am I getting rich and making 10K a month as an affiliate marketer? No, I'm not.

However, I'm doing OK for myself. I'm my own boss, and I'm comfortable.

I rent a decent condo and I drive a decent car. I have money for the things I need and most importantly, I have lots of free time which I spend with friends and family. I think that's more important than money.

To answer your original question, it varies. It depends on how quickly you can build your list. Many people have reached $6000 per month in half of the time it took me to reach $3K.

It depends on what niche you get into, how many subscribers you add to your list every day, what kind of products you promote to your list, your relationship with your list, how much time and effort you are willing to put in, how much start up capital you have, etc.

All I can say is that I'm being 100% real with you. I'm not rich, but I'm doing well and I love what I do, and sometimes that's more important than making tons of money. I'm comfortable where I'm at, but believe me when I tell you I worked my butt off to get here!

In the past, I used to spend a lot of time and energy trying to help elevate people and prove to them that it can be done.

But I've come to realize that it was all for nothing.

No matter how hard you try, you can't change the minds of negative people. Haters gonna hate, Trolls gonna troll, so just let 'em be.

It doesn't matter how much proof you show them. You could pull out your bank account. You could show them live ads, campaigns, stats, the whole shebang. But it doesn't matter. They will still think you are lying, doing something 'shady', or that you just got 'lucky' and there's no way they could ever get similar results.

And that's fine. Let them sit on the sidelines and say it can't be done, while you are busy doing it =)

Great idea - would be to start a blog that outlines ONLY successful use cases making money using affiliate marketing techniques.
Hi there! I was able to read this message and I would like to share my opinion on this matter. I think the best way of earning money through an affiliate program is by partnering yourself with the right affiliate company who can provide you the right set of tools (or programs, if you may) that will help you make decent money online...

Take my experience as an example for this, I've been using an offerwall tool from a reputable affiliate company which allows me to provide relevant offers to my customers in exhange for money. I believe this method is effective for me since I making good money. And not only that, I was able to gain more traffic as the time progresses because of this and the efforts I made in promoting my website through different channels like in email and social media...

This is my game and I'm so grateful that I came to know my affiliate partner because they provided me this excellent offerwall that I can take advantage of in making money...

I don't think that's true. I laid out my entire system in one of my earlier posts in these threads. It's not rocket science at all. There are not really any "secret" methods anyway.

There might be certain ways of using methods that are working well for affiliates, but overall there aren't really any "secret" caches of traffic or otherwise.

All you need to do is research the traffic methods that are working for other affiliates, and then learn how to use them yourself. It might cost you some money in the process, but once you master the traffic method then you move on to another one and master that.

For instance, I found out about a method a top weight loss affiliate was using to make major sales. It turned out that he was using native ads and advertising on RevContent. If I wanted to, I could have easily duplicated his campaign, since I was even able to find the ads he was using.

I know a lot of people might not believe this, but everything you need to know about Internet Marketing is available for free on the Internet if you know where to look.

I'm not trying to demean the industry in any way, but you don't exactly have to be a genius to figure it out. For instance, I'm not that smart myself and I've done alright.

To give my best example of making money from an affiliate program . . . years ago I'd bought a course on "guaranteed income", put up a handful of sites, and made zero in 2 years and abandoned all the sites.

Some times later, I heard about a method here, and realized that I could try it for free on some of those old sites that had never made a penny. I wrote a few product-reports, and forgot about it and moved on to other things. Then I was surprised when I received some money in the post !! It was from those product-reports I'd forgotten about.

I created a big site, with hundreds of high quality product-reports, had big plans, bought expensive automation software for adding the affiliate links etc. bought several courses on the method, applied for bank loans to up-scale it all, then . . .

suddenly the income dropped to zero. I investigated, and found that doing exactly what those courses had advised, had got my site de-indexed entirely, so I was getting almost no traffic.

The method was Amazon affiliate income, using high-quality product-reports.

I re-started the method on new websites, being careful not to follow out-of-date back-linking advice (that some people are still recommending here, today), and built up an income again.

I wrote a detailed 98-page guide on the subject, and realized that I didn't know how to do a proper launch, so paid someone $500 to help me. He helped me a bit, and we had a successful test as a WSO, and the plans were started for a proper launch. But his communication, never very reliable in the first place (he took a month to do things he guaranteed to do "within 24 hours"), ceased entirely, and I didn't know enough to finish the launch, so lost money, but learned a few things.

A few months later, my Amazon account was banned, since they'd changed the rules (and not made it clear . . . I'd read every rule update but hadn't seen the changes). They now don't allow you to mention anything that any buyer has said, or compare prices (such as "this product is about twice the price of the other one, at the time of writing"), or mention anything about user-ratings, or say anything about the product at all, even "generalizing" and "summarizing" is entirely banned. The only thing you can do is directly copy Amazon content using their API (which is not set up to make it easy, even a programmer I paid, found it impossible to use their system to do even a simple process necessary for affiliate marketing).

So the method no longer works with Amazon, unfortunately, since it is not possible to add any value at all, and you cannot help anyone make a buying decision. Personally, I think this is a shame, but I guess the lawyers have won over common sense . . . I wonder what effect that will have on their business in the long-term.

Of course, there are plenty of other affiliate programs which sell most of the same products, but Amazon have the reputation, so I moved on to other things instead of trying to change my websites over to other sellers (I was making some money, but for a LOT of work).

That's one of my experiences on affiliate-marketing . . . I hope it helps others . . . the same courses are still being sold, still recommending things that will get your sites de-indexed, and which will cause your Amazon account to be banned.

I never even considered trying to finish the launch of a product that is now not valid, but I guess that's just me, and those selling bad advice are probably making more money at it than I am so far, but money is not everything, to me.
