How important is a $1 trial for the first 30 days?

I read some guru who said that (and I'm talking like jay abraham or garry halbert) who said that the offer needs to be extremely easy to try out. So I was debating this whole idea of doing a 30 day trial for $1 dollar, followed by (whatever regular price, or price per month etc etc).

The only thing that I'm a bit unsure of is what if you get people that then can access all your materials for just a buck. They get in, they copy all your stuff, then cancel? Where as the higher price point might have kept some of those people out if you didn't do the 30 day trial? I know that's probably not the best way to think, but does anyone have some experience with this?

    The 30 days trial is used mainly for tools like software.

    After the 30 days trial you will not be able to used it anymore. By that time you will be engaged (if the tool is good enough for your needs) and you will proceed with the total purchase.

    These $1 trials don't offer all the access to everything.

    For a learning course is different, you can give for example the first 3 lessons out of a 50 lesson course. It works the same as a freeby but with a $1 fee.

    Offering $1 trail is good that you can collect some leads and them you can ask them for pro level memberships. This is a nice business strategy. All you have to do is collect the leads with free trails.

    you do this by testing your audience. testing different price points etc...


    for years, like a dummy I was selling my downloadable prints for 4 bucks a pop (non IM niche)

    i tested with extreme apprehension a 10 buck price point.. you know what happened, my conversion rate dropped by a tiny bit...

    ....wish i did this years ago.

    First and foremost, deciding whether to include a $1 trial shouldn't hold you from launching on schedule. That said, the reason to offer a $1 trial is that it works.

    There are people like that out there, and it's a shame that there are people like that out there, but the supermajority of the Trial Period Jerk Club won't do a blasted thing with your stuff. So, given that you've already done the hard work of creating the product, do you really care that a miniscule percentage of people are going to sign up for the trial, download stuff, then cancel? Maybe, just maybe if hosting / bandwidth is a concern. Maybe. But the folks who do sign up for a $1 trial and then pay the full cost later will far outnumber the refund-o-tards(TM).

    So, let the jerks be jerks. Treat your $1 trial folks like good customers, and let them sort themselves out.

    Personally instead of $1 trial i would go with FREE trial now it depends on the offer but charging them $1 doesn't mean anything to you and by giving it for FREE for the first 3 or 6 days or whatever your model is you are actually acquiring more emails and you can convince them to purchase later down the road.

    The first question that comes to mind is why you want to offer a monthly subscription if all of your material can be downloaded in trial period? Of what benefit to the buyer is the subscription?

    A $1 trial basically accomplishes one thing - the buyer has the ability to complete a transaction with you. They have a valid credit card.

    Yes, you'll likely get more emails (and bigger AR bills) with a free trial but it's far from certain that you'll be able to convert more of them to buyers than you would by charging $1.

    The $1 trial with limited features and access is a proven technique. You may get the odd person committing service abuse, but that is few and far between and it's a great way to increase your conversions.

    $1 offer is a great strategy, but people will often drop off when they are forced to pay full price. That is because people do not like to pay. Often you must keep then excited by telling them about new features that are coming up. Strategy is to get them hooked on your product or service. Like they keep coming back for more. Frankly, it is like watching a TV series. Constantly, the producer must up the ante until you "jump the shark" as we say.
