1 Powerful Concept that Grows Your Business

Connect with people interested in what you have to offer.

Mindfully.

Versus desperately running from prospect to prospect, or from number to number.

This idea sounds simple, and like common sense, but I wasted years of my online career trying to manipulate numbers, and even worse, chasing folks not interested in what I had to offer, or even worse (this was so silly), NOT connecting with people who were highly interested in what I had to offer.

When I say "Connect" I mean, spending 1-2 or even 5 minutes writing an individual, or speaking with them, or messaging them, or however you choose to connect with them, to help them, to engage them, and to be memorable.

In most cases, it won't be about business. It will be about free service.

Example: 5 minutes ago someone commented on my blog. He noted buying the eBook I linked to, through the blog post. I responded to his comment, addressed him by name, thanked him for purchasing the eBook, then clicked his link, read his latest post, commented on it and tweeted it out to my 52,000 followers.

This is a connection; a mindful act of spending a few moments to show love to folks who dig what you are doing. Then, these connections grow into friendships - and of course, repeat traffic and sales and comments and your business grows - and the more of these friendships you develop, the more connections you grow, and everything keeps expanding for you, business-wise.

I was such a dingbat for many years, trying to desperately sprint ahead to the next 100 people I needed to meet, versus making strong connections with folks who obviously loved what I had to offer, but this tendency is rampant here on the forum.

Because many Warriors focus on those bizarre things called numbers. Which are inanimate, And, unfortunately, a number never bought my stuff or hired me, nor will any inanimate object buy your stuff or hire you.

Connections though, these folks whom you spent 1 or 2 or 5 minutes chatting with and helping, and whom you re-visit each week, or maybe even daily, these people will grow your business steadily, and slowly, and over time, as your friend network expands, they will grow your business quickly.

Are you focusing heavily on numbers or outcomes? Or people who have no interest in your business?

Or do you spend a few minutes to genuinely connect with one human being at a time?

Excellent Ryan, thanks for the reminder.

    What's that old saying . . .

      Vanity metrics, my friend.

People don't know how much they'll "care"...until they know how much you have and are willing to spend.

I tell you how frustrated I have been over the years with people who to be frank just don't give a damn.
      And this frustrates you why?

You take the "caring," I'll take the money.

        Brent,

It all depends upon the type of business you are doing, doesn't it? Ryan is a blogger and his business is built on connecting with his followers so they trust him to recommend things that have value for them.

Some business models are not like that; like those of mass media buyers that run mega one-and-done campaigns over and over again. Their concern is getting an offer in front of the right eyeballs in a big time way - it's a numbers game. Granted, they don't really rely on repeat sales and audience connection to build trust and rapport.

Personally, I think most members here run solo businesses where connecting with their audience is a good thing.

          Good points again.

          @Brent, what Steve said.

Genuinely, we can build businesses from so many different spaces. And manifest money from different energies too. All about what you are clear on.

But for me, the less I care about money, and the more I care about people, the more incredibly easy it is for me to make money.

Just my experience though. And if we all had the same experiences and takes, the boring world it would be.

      Hi Steve,

Thanks much. It is a biggie, caring about folks.

I have seen the world is like a mirror. What you put out, energy-wise, flows back to you.

I have really doubled down in the giving department AND the caring department recently, and it keeps flowing back.

      Wonderful how well this works.

Thanks Ryan. Spot on as usual !

I tell you how frustrated I have been over the years with people who to be frank just don't give a damn.

Iam talking about some successful Marketers too.

It always perplexed how successful they were while being such poor communicators. Then it dawned on me that they could have been twice as successful as they were if they learned to actually "care" about others and take a little time to show it

    Talk about NOT maximizing potential

      Hi Robert,

      Excellent point.

I feel even if you have made a ton of dough online, if you did it from a heart-centered space, you will really really really love the journey and probably make double or triple.

Of course, these folks are not really focused on the money, an example being Richard Branson. He spends money and buys some nice stuff, but he lives a life of service and giving.

Excellent advice for people whose business depends on the relationships they build with others, like blogging or freelancing.

Speaking of excellent advice, which relates back to this post, I saw one of your guest posts come across my feed this morning, which should be 'must-see' for anyone interested in using blog commenting.

Ryan the concept is sound, but it's also kind of another way to say a few other defining marketing principles. Such as:

    - Try selling to people most likely to give you money

    - The marketing advantage i have over you is the starving crowd

    - Message to market match

    - Sell in a small niche market instead of selling in a large general market.

Great advice though, your info is sound. I guess it takes more than 1 way to say something to make people finally get the "ah ha!" moment.

Cool stuff; it helps to see this concept through a different prism, for sure.

I definitely place value on the content in this post. People invest in relationships and the "why", not the "what" of the product itself.

    Thanks for this powerful reminder.

I have to agree that by sitting down in person, talking on phone or simply live chat or email is a means of building a personal understanding and communication that is a win win situation for both the customer and you.

We have tried this and the best part is it makes you feel good deep down honestly that you are serving well.

Connecting is a very important tactic in business.

    Great reminder, Ryan.

It has always been about Building Relationships.

And more so, in today's crowded market, where selling to existing customers are far easier and pocket-friendly than chasing new prospects every day.

After all, any business exists to GIVE VALUE in exchange for a price.

Loyalty and trust matters, because we are not selling to objects, but to humans, our fellow humans.

You are spot on. There is lot of artificial stuff going on inside digital world. People can sense genuine things. If you really care about your clients, they will care for your business. I have seen lot of entrepreneurs only think of their clients as numbers. Behind every email, there is a genuine human being. Show them some care
