Using clickfunnels for A/B testing when your products are hosted on your own site?

Hey everyone,

I'm wondering how you would go about using clickfunnels for split testing when everything is on your own website (aside from the actual sales page, which I create in clickfunnels).

I wanted to try and implement clickfunnels into my business, but after trying it for a little over a month, I realized that the only thing I would need it for would be split testing of my optin page (which takes them over to my website, which is where they create a free membership to my website), or my sales page (which takes them to a registration page on my website which is where the payment is made).

So I'm wondering how I would go about split testing with the current setup that I have?

Thanks!

Have you got two or more sales pages or optin pages set up with CF?

I would wonder why you are using CF if split testing was your priority?

CF does provide some analytics on the pages set up within their platform and you can see the results of those split tests. It is easy to clone pages and change to suit.

If split testing was your main priority there are better alternatives like VWO or Optimizely.

    Best regards,

    Ozi

You may want to look at the Thrive Themes website. Several options including Thrive Leads, Thrive Optimize, Thrive Landing Pages, etc.

Thanks for the replies. I was just trying out clickfunnels. I wasn't sure exactly what I would or wouldn't need from the service. After one month, I'm pretty sure that I don't really need it at all. However, what I do like is:

1.) The ease of creating nice sales pages and optin pages.

2.) The ability to do A/B testing (but not in my case though, since I'm only using clickfunnels as a middle man, while having my products hosted on my own site).

I'll have to explore my options to see if I can find a better option for what I'm looking to do.

      Thanks for the suggestions.

    Hi Bkelly301,

Your question reminds me of an old metaphor:

"When you are a hammer everything looks like a nail"

When you're a Clickfunnel marketer everything looks like a funnel step.

While Clickfunnels is a great tool, especially for someone just getting started, it is like a multitool you carry in your pocket and use whenever you're away from your tool shop that is stocked full of professional grade, best-in-breed power tools. The one-size-fits-all solution is rarely the best option for everything you may want to do, and Clickfunnels is no exception.

Sometimes you need a wrench instead of a hammer.

While you could try to move your entire web presence into the Clickfunnels environment it certainly will not be the best option for most businesses.

The trouble with Clickfunnels is that all of it's great features work exclusively on their own platform. Those features all live in a "walled-off garden". There's a whole world of possibilities outside of that walled-garden to explore. ClickFunnels is not a highly extendable platform.

Clickfunnels is made to be a checkout funnel tool and works great if that's all you need. Marketing funnels and website optimization require a whole different set of tools if you want to be highly competitive in those areas.

The good news is that you have tens of thousands of extensible solutions available from thousands of development teams to fill just about every possible need.

As Ozi mentioned there are better solutions for split testing websites and landing pages like "VWO or Optimizely" and they actually work outside of the Clickfunnels environment. You may even want to consider Google Optimize which is pretty good as a free solution.

    HTH,

    Don Burk

p.s. If you are looking for a great landing page builder you may want to look at Instapage, as it is by far the easiest and fastest page builder my agency has every tested and we use it extensively. The only downside is that it gets really expensive quickly if you are using it for hundreds of custom landing pages, if you need to go over 50 landing pages the price jumps to $12,000+ per year.

p.p.s. If you are on the Wordpress platform take a look at Elementor page builder. It's low cost (free with a premium option) and highly extensible. My page building team loves it because it is so flexible and easy to use yet has a lot of advanced page building elements available as add-ons. Page and block element templates are easy to create and reuse on multiple pages and websites. You can create really beautiful pages using the simplicity of drag and dropping pre-built elements or page sections.

Yes this is exactly what I've been figuring out over this last month.

However, I do still like clickfunnels for what I'm using it for which is - Creating a nice optin page and a nice sales page (which I currently have 2 variations of).

I have built my website over the last 2 years using the "Thesis theme". It's decent.

I have recently been incorporating the "Beaver Builder" plugin to help me build pages. It is a good tool, but I like ClickFunnels better for creating sales pages simply because it's easier to use.

I'm now just looking for a tool that gives the ability to create sales pages that can be created outside of the Wordpress theme that I'm using (which is how I use ClickFunnels), but that I can then connect to my site somehow. I do this via the "clickfunnels plugin" currently.

I also would like to have the ability to do A/B testing. I'd gladly stay with clickfunnels for $97/year, but as I said in the OP and as you pointed out in the above quote...Clickfunnels works for a "walled garden", and doesn't really work well outside of their system.

I checked out VWO and Optimizely...but they are definitely out of my budget.

I'm considering lead pages, which is a bit more expensive then ClickFunnels, but looks like it is more suited to my needs.

So to summarize, what I'm looking for:

1.) Ability to create nice, mobile-responsive sales pages and optin pages with the ease of ClickFunnels

2.) Ability to incorporate these created pages into my site as an "add-on" page that overrides my main wordpress theme just for that one page. I'll use a Plugin for this task if necessary.

3.) Ability to do A/B testing

4.) Something that costs maybe $150/month maximum. Maybe in a few years, I'll be able to afford those more expensive testing platforms like VWO, but for now that's out of my budget.

Lead Pages seems to be the best fit for me so far.

      Any other suggestions?

      Thanks!

    It seems to me....

You need to have a "Page Template" built for your theme... its actually not that hard, with some time doing research YOU could more than likely do this.. and you don't want to / cant, you probably can get it done on fiver for like $5 - $10. and if your budget minded.. you know you can A/B test with Google Analytics for free?

All of the things you are looking to do can literally be based on your server - minus the A/B testing.. but the actual pages can be INTIGRATED into your site and not floating off somewhere.

Why pay for a service to run simple A/B testing and build a page when you can do all of this right where you are at right now for literally next to nothing.

Get a BLANK page template... use a page builder and you can design landers for days.. and it costs as close to nothing as it gets... Use GA, because I will bet it will do everything you are wanting at this point - and again its FREE.

$150 a month is a lot of money.. $1800 a year, for what? deciding if A or B performs better.. you simply do not the need the biggest baddest best to do what you are doing.

    Hope that Helps!

    OptimizePress and Clickmagick.

    $97 one-time and $17 monthly.

Don't waste time and money on bells and whistles you don't need.

I like the one-time fee option of optimizepress, but neither of those offer a/b testing capability from a first look. I'm gonna have to look into clickmagick a little bit more.

      Thanks for the suggestions.

To the poster above before the one that I quoted...yes Google Analytics has its place, and I do use it, but the main thing I need in addition to a nice landing page builder is the ability to do 50/50 split testing. Building the page is the easy part...building the page and having split testing capabilities...that's the part that's gonna cost me at least $79/month as far as I know right now (using leadpages).

I would not suggest it, if it didn't exist:

        straight to the source: https://support.google.com/optimize/.../6211930?hl=en

A little high profile source education: https://neilpatel.com/blog/how-to-ru...gle-analytics/

Like I said.. you are basically blowing money right out the window, and you don't need to be.. probably not for the level of testing you are completing anyways.

        Hope that Helps!

Oh wow, I didn't realize that they had that type of extensive A/B testing available in google analytics. I thought it would be much more complicated then that. Thank you very much for sharing those links!

This is exactly what I needed!
