Pinging into a Black Hole?

I've searched for this answer with no success - if you want to ping new pages or posts, is it necessary to first register your site with all of the rss aggregators? Please tell me "NO." If the answer is "yes," then I've been pinging away into a black hole and have yet another catch-up task to get done this week.

    What are you using to ping? I'm using MPB ping optimizer plugin and it has worked great so far. It also limits excess pinging and no need to register anywhere, except once when you have to activate the plugin.

      I have been using primarily pingoat...no plugins as these are html sites, not WordPress.

    Pinging is completely unrelated to RSS aggregation.

      Glad to hear it and I really, really appreciate the answer. I've been "pinging" the updated RSS page, and that appears to be the wrong approach. Just ping the new page/post directly and be done with it?

    I use RSS Submit to submit to rss aggregators. Some you have to sign up for, some you don't. The software will tell you which ones.
