Please comment on my article marketing plan

For 10 years now I have been competing for search engine rankings for one ultra competitive niche. Every year it gets tougher to maintain rank.

I am looking for a way to diversify from seo and here is my plan:

1) Create a landing page with no connection to my seo work.

2) Contract out 100 original articles for my niche.

3) Submit articles to every article directories I can including syndicated directories like isnare.

Goal is to get traffic from resource box links, not from link popularity of target landing page.

Do you think this will work?

Most that submit to isnare and other mass directories are not looking for direct traffic, but only backlinks.

The plan looks good but I would submit to the top 5 article directories and then to other high traffic websites like wordpress.com, squidoo, hubpages, etc..

Those are the places that have quality traffic.

Yes Hubpages is a quick place to rank for traffic. Also allows 3 links in your article and you can even throw in an affiliate link but I don't like giving affiliates my backlinks however it works in some cases there depending on the product. I may put that affiliate link in the first paragraph with a quick call to action if they are just looking for something in particular like a certain type of health supplement and ready to buy it. I can immediately send them to the supplement company. it's a quick way to rank for some things you may not want to spend much time on but create a conduit for traffic to an online affiliate retailer selling physical products. There are a couple types of people using Google - the free information seekers and the immediate buyers with commercial intent. If I can distinguish who I am drawing the google traffic from in Google and why they might bounce is how I determine if I put a quick call to action affiliate link in the first paragraph on a Hub.

From what I have seen you will get two answers here and I think both work. I get tons of traffic from my Ezines on tougher keywords while building up my rank for that keyword on my website. I strategically pointed some backlinks towards a few of my articles that then bumped them up very high in rankings very quickly.

I know that some people will say sending backlinks to an article and outranking your site is stupid but there are some keywords where it could take a month or two to get enough rank on your own site while you can use the authority of a couple directories to pick up the traffic now and push your competition out of the top 10 by having several of your articles bump them out. If you end up having some articles that outrank your own site in the future you can do a couple different things - either leave them there if they are getting traffic, edit them to decrease their onsite SEO for the term pushing them down rank, or just take it off. You have control over your own article so if it is hurting your ranking just take it down.

What worked well for me was using Free Traffic System to build backlinks to selected articles quickly. I have dozens of articles that ended up ranking PR1,PR2,PR3 on the Google PR update on New Years that I just wrote in November and December so they weren't even that old and some didn't even have much traffic yet. dozen backlinks I gave each one seemed to boost them. Then the higher PR article gives a higher link value to your backlink in that article helping you rank for your term.

Another tip - if you want the highest linkjuice from an article directory put 1 in Article Dashboard and build about 10 backlinks to it with Free Traffic System. Article Dashboard has hardly any outbound links on their articles so the backlinks I had on PR3 article dashboard articles had double and triple the link value as my PR3 ezines. Ezine has tons of outbound links on their articles so the juice gets watered down - but the good side is that Ezines start to gain PR fairly quickly on their own because of the traffic to the site so I never had to build backlinks to those.

If you want an article to rank #1 very quickly go for ARticlesBase and build some links to it. You have most control of the onsite SEO on an ArticlesBase and can make your onsite SEO very strong getting H1 tag, description, and some other onsite ranking factors. The only downside of Articlesbase is the links are 'nofollow' but if you are just using it for traffic that is o.k. - but make sure you have a backlink in your profile on Articlesbase because that is a 'dofollow' link and if you get a enough high PR articles on AB they all point to your profile and you profile becomes a PR3/P4 that has your follow outbound link to your site with anchor text. I have a profile on 1 site that is a PR5 now and I only started writing there 2 months ago. ArticlesBase also puts tons of text ad links in your article though which will compete with your links - make sure to put a strong link in the first paragraph above the fold since over 50% of people don't scroll down past the fold you can still have a link there. Ezine does not allow this - they know that over 50% of people don't scroll down so they do not allow a self serving link in the first 2 paragraphs because they want their Adsense revenue. Make sure to go with some directories that do allow a couple links in the body so that you don't have to rely on just your resource box. Goarticles is another that allows links in body and sends decent traffic - also very quick to rank with a couple backlinks. Put an anchor link to your keyword in the first paragraph - I like to use first or last sentence of a paragraph as it will supposedly get picked up easier by the spiders.

Putting high quality articles out quickly is a great way to get traffic quick and rankings on your terms if done with a little bit of strategy.

    Thanks guys.

Despite the fact that I own a decent article directory myself, I am not an expert article marketer. I think that if I use the 100 articles to their full potential, I will get a great education and get some traffic that does not depend on my site seo.

You really can. I took a crash course in article marketing the last 3 months. Much trial and error while also learning from a great coach. I still have a lot to learn but I believe that doing the high activity level is the quickest way to learn.

As someone that had a career in sales I saw many people fail in sales because they did not generate the activity required to produce results. They wanted to know everything prior to ever taking action while someone without knowledge could burn up the phones with activity and fail many times but succeed and learn on the way so it was never a failure. I see the same thing in internet marketing. Many people are trying to figure it all out before diving in. "Paralysis by Analysis" will render someone useless in sales or internet marketing.

Best way to learn is to do - then analyze the results, make changes, and keep moving forward. Creating a lot of activity works in sales and internet marketing (actually internet marketing is about trying to make sales so the high activity level rings through constant)

    Update-

Because I do not want search engine traffic for my landing page, I felt free to do something that I have never done before.

I just bought sitewide links on 1000's of blogs and sites. I told all that they could set links as "nofollow". I think that I bought about a million links for about $600!

About 20% in the USA are potential prospects for my landing page and if I have enough millions of links, I may get results w/o SE traffic.
