Over 420 hops and no sales

Hello Warriors,

I am so frustrated. I created a blog where I review 3 products in the dating niche. Fireworks with females, the online game and how to become an alpha male.

The traffic is coming from my articles. Had about 900 visitors through them and I now have almost 450 hops but I am not making any sales. It is so frustrating.

Does anyone here have a tip for me?

Thanks in advance

Do you have a landing page? Or is it direct linking? Maybe the keywords you are targeting for your Article are not converting keywords?

Do you think you would not be better targeting a dating membership site? I think you would get around $1-2 per unique lead.

Well, maybe you're driving traffic through wrong keywords..

Maybe you receive less loosely targeted traffic..

Maybe you chose the wrong products..

    there are many possibilities..

I don't know alot about your niche, but what I say here applies on any niche...

To "evaluate" the profitability of a group of products, you can do a small exercise...

Type in your keywords (or the keywords you think your potential customers may use) in Google

Check patiently Adwords ads, are there any ads for the products you're behind?

if so, try to check ads in spyfu, it well return a little bit old adwords data, which you can compare to the current data you get directly by searching Google, compare the results...

If your products have ads in both, this means there are marketers who pay money for the traffic to these products, for at least one month (spyfu returns data that's about one month old)..then logically, these products make them profits...

Other wise, and if you used many keywords but couldn't found considerable number of adwords ads, then probably these products don't worth targeting, try to search for better converting products...

I target keywords like attract any girl or how to attract girls and I also target review keyowrds like "productname review".

And it does not link directly to the sales page. I have a blog as landing page. Thanks for your input so far warriors.

Some one else mentioned it above, CPA is the way to go imo if you are driving traffic to the dating niche. You can get stuff like 1-3 bucks a lead, depending if its a paid service or not, the lead price goes up.

I had a similar problem. It turns out the product I was promoting had horrible conversion rates (Erection Mastery). I'd say check out other products.

That is very frustrating, but keep doing what you are doing. You can only expect around a 1 - 2% conversion rate on a product that sells well AND has a good sales page.

But, when that first sale comes...you'll be very happy!

I have similar horrible conversion rates lately. 500 hops and 1 sale over 8 products. Made a lot of sales in December but only a few in January. I wonder if something is up with Clickbank again.

My sales with CB have been in the toilet for several weeks. I assumed it was because of the holidays, but they are still horrible.

      You need buying keywords.

It's stressed, but not stressed enough. Just because a keyword has a lot of searches does not mean that those searchers will buy from you.

For instance, here is a REAL keyword I used to use. Heck, I spent so much time getting my Adwords Ad to a 10.2% CTR, and got my QS to 10/10.

      "Mafia Wars Cheats"

Do you know how much money I put into that keyword? It wasn't till a few hundred dollars later would I realize that people are not in the buying 'mood' when they search for "mafia wars cheats".

When they search for that keyword, they are usually looking for a free solution to their problem. If they want to cheat their way out, they probably don't want to pay either.

But it took me sooooo long to realize this!

This is when the phrase "Have a buyers mind/mentality" comes into play. I thought to myself, "If I were looking for Mafia Wars Cheats, would I want to pay for a guide to the game?"

I said "no". And so have my customers. My conversion rate is about 1 out of 250 hops.

That's why whenever I see someone promote their product for me to sell, and they tell me that is converts 1 out of 25 (or some similar figure), I'll just completely ignore them.

It depends on what keywords the affiliate targets.

Sure, some conversion rates will depend on how well built and written the landing page is, but it won't make a crappy keyword a good one.

      Just my 2 cents.

Thanks for all your help warriors. I think I will try to change the offers and get into some CPA Stuff. Can you recommend a CPA offer for the dating niche? Or as mentioned above a membership site that pays per lead or something.

I am thinking about Fling but not sure if that will convert.

I believe that 98% of surfers have the mentality of finding what they are searching for free. Another 1% have found a free service that keeps them connected such as facebook, or myspace. And the last 1% are actually expecting to purchase, but half of these fear scams.

So true target markets on the net don't exsist yet, but are beginning to trend. Just a thought.

I've had some real hit and miss with products but it was a great learning experience. The first fitness product I had on Clickbank took me 576 hops to make the first sale - luckily all free traffic from my article marketing and a $52 commission but it was a heck of a lot of work and a terrible conversion rate. (still converts horribly. LOL)

When on the flipside I have a product that I only wrote a few articles for and it was converting a couple times a month. It was a much cheaper product with only a 33% commission so I was only making $5.72 off it but didn't hardly do any work on it and the product doesn't have a sales page - it is the worst sales page I have ever seen - a paragraph. So I contacted the author directly and told him to bump the price up and the commission up and I would work on it. He raised the price to $24.95 and to a 50% commission - I spent a few hours writing articles and now make a sale every other day. It converts at 6% opposed to the other product which converts at negative 1 million percent. So the same amount of traffic to this cheaper product will make about $414 instead of $52.

I now analyze my target audience and market much more carefully before embarking on an article writing campaign.

It was my first go at Clickbank products and it taught me a lot. I always think back to how Thomas Edison invented the light bulb. A person asked him how it felt to fail 1000 times. He said - I didn't fail, I found 1,000 different ways not to do it. Sometimes that's what internet marketing feels like. just keep plugging away with a very high activity level. improvise, adapt, overcome.

One of the products I promote now gets me no sales in around 600 clickthroughs..Its not Clickbank, but physical product with the price around $500. While I get a good clickthrough..from 40% to 50% from my landing page to the merchant, there are no sales. : )

But as some of you have pointed out, the learning experience is priceless. Have fun : )

I'm in a similar boat so thanks to everyone for their advice.

I've sent over 556 hops to a single cb offer with only 1 sale.
I've promoted 3 other products with 180-224 hops and none of those have a sale.

I have lots of order form submits (19) with no resulting sale. Thats getting to be pretty commonplace for me.

    Anyway you are not alone.

I'm sure there is a script/plugin for Wordpress that will rotate your affiliate offers so you can split test them and find a better converting offer. Sorry I can't remember off hand the detials though.

Also I would suggest using a squeeze page as your landing page from the articles where you can build a list, develop relationships and promote on an ongoing basis.

    Hope that helps!

    Dave.

I have a CB product that coverts at 1/400 on average.

I spend less than 50% of the commission in ads, so in effect i more than double my money on each conversion, its keeps ticking over like clockwork. a high conversion rate is nice but mot the only factor.

What is the sales copy like on the vendors pages? Do you know if the products sell well already (gravity and referred on CB for example)? They could be duds or you could be very unlucky...

Filling with hops are likely to turn off users. Concentrate on 1-3. for every niche. Tell your audience which one is the best for them. Give different situations, so all sorts of viewers will have the choice and something specific that they are looking for.

You could have 5k hops and never sell anything. Also, analyse your competition. In the dating niche, competition is very high. Offer something to your viewers and potential customers that your competition doesn't have. Contact the owners of the websites your promote for some sort of promotion you could offer your customers.

You can't just expect to write some stuf, slap on a bunch of hops, purchase traffic and have a huge list. If you cannot build a relationship with your audience, you may never even make a sale.

Please go to youtube.com and watch some videos from Lisa Irby. She is a wealth of information.

    Hope this helps

As stated by other warriors it important to find keywords that convert. Some convert better ... blah blah blah.

Anyhow I use to see conversions on CB of 1 of 15-50 visitor now it is up around 1 of 500. It may be on out of 1000 one week then 2 in the next 500. It seems pretty consistent across most products I promote. Most products have a gravity of 20-200 so I really don't look at that as much as a factor. I do not look at % commission ... I make my choices based on the sales page.

What I find frustrating is picking a product that has no free optin mini report or some other affiliate life sucking scheme on it to go back several weeks later to find one on it. I have no problem with a product creator wanting to convert as much traffic as long as the referring affiliate get the credit even from an optin subscriber to a free report and I believe that is whee the problem is lurking in CB the last few years.

I wish CB would not allow the sales page to have such op-ins unless it can be verified that the referring affiliate is getting credit for a conversion down the road.

So anymore a CB sale is ... gravy money. CPA is better no less traffic skimming.

I believe we are seeing 2-3 times as many warriors in the threads so for affiliate marketing the competition has increased dramatically in the last 1-2 years. There are many reasons.
