I hope this question is not too vague, I would like to know what are your favorite and not so favorite software to use when creating website? Any takers 1,2,3,go....

Let me see.

If the question was asked in a developer forum/chat - there would be two confronting opinions: Dreamweaver vs. Notepad (or some similar text editor)

When you ask non-professional web site makers... you should clarify whether it is about wysiwyg HTML editors or some more advanced versions of the text editors (e.g. PSPad, TextWrangler etc.)

If you were, actually, thinking about CMS (content management system) type of "software", aka script... there will also be a lot of opposing opinions. And the WordPress fans will win

Xsitepro was great when I was a newbie, but it couldn't format things the way I wanted, so I left it and used Kompozer.

I have used Wordpress, xSitepro and Kompozer and NVU before that and all have served their purpose. But for ease of use and some pretty easy SEO wordpress is the way to go, even if you do have to pay for the theme you want.

Wordpress all the way for me. I love its ease of use and built in rss to syndicate your content. (Some) Plugins are also cool, just don't crazy and install too many of them
