Email marketers: how do you deal with varying skill levels?

When someone subscribes to your list and they're either:

a.) Complete newbies
b.) Intermediates
c.) "Advanced" or making a living online

How do you cater to them? How can you segment your list or split them up to better serve them? Any idea how to do this?

This is by far one of the biggest obstacles for me an email marketing, interested in hearing thoughts...

I'm not too sure if I'm being honest.

But, to determine what level the majority of my subscribers are, I always have a few questions in my first autoresponder message to try and get more information about their current level. A surprising number email me back and it's also a great way to build a relationship with someone.

Is there a way to add a field like "Experience" level on the thank you page. Sort of like a survey on the thank you page?

I have no agenda but to help those in the same situation. This I feel will pay the bills.

I would think that the copy they responded to by subscribing
would be targeted to people of a particular skill level so that
    would give you some idea.

What I mean is... if I'm offering a product that requires advanced
skills my copy will reflect that. I wouldn't want novices buying the
product and getting frustrated... that would only lead to higher
    refund rates.

I provide proven complicated strategies that I explain fast and easy and simple stragtegies explained fast and easy and that any business owner and entrepreneur can apply throughout.

Sometimes I will segment through different lists which is important to be speicific targeted in a niche for better success but I've been really successful by always providing max value to my general list as well.

I get emails weekly from people that say thanks and I used your tip last week and did x or did y. It's a great thing when you can make money and help people at the same time. So keep giving value and then ask for feedback throughout as well. Who better to tell you what they want than them right?

    Hi Andrew,

If you have the skills to coach all 3 levels then here's what you do...

On your site, make them 3 separate opt-in offers... It's the easiest way.

So your landing page will have 3 separate offers and headlines and links to 3 separate opt-in pages.

Place them side by side or one after the other in a vertical style on the landing page.

So you will have 3 ads targeted at 3 separate segments of the market and thus 3 mailing lists. You can then email them your training etc via email without losing sleep wondering if the recipients will be lost (in the case of the newbies) or ticked off by the simplicity of the content (in the case of the experts).

I have one set up just like this and it is the easiest way I can suggest to you. Very targeted as well and can work in any niche where all 3 levels exist.

    Cheers

I write my squeeze page copy directed towards one audience. I make sure to know which audience my list will be most appropriate for before even getting traffic to it. In that autoresponder I will talk about what's most appropriate for that level of marketers and at a certain point I always direct them to more advanced techniques in another autoresponder. I have these autoresponders automatically set up to remove them from the first list.

Kind of like kunle said in the earlier post.
