My Offline Business Email List just did over $5,900 in First 7.5 hours Today so far, with one email

Hey Warriors,

This is my first post, so please excuse me if this is the wrong forum for this, if someone needs to move it that's fine.

I am so excited I can hardly stand myself. I can't really talk about this with my friends because their eyes glaze over when I start talking about the Internet and Marketing, especially when I combine the two. So I figured I would just write a post here to hopefully encourage someone that Take some a Action. I have been studying IM for almost 1 1/2 years and only thing I have ever really used is emails (which I still to this day hand collect from guests every night using a Birthday Ethical Bribe) to drive business to my Offline Business

Alright here goes, I am on Frank Kern's list and got his "4 Day Cash Machine" last week. It really seemed like something I could do since I have a list already. So, this weekend I tried to figure out what I could do that would work with this method.

The good news is I do have a list of over 6,200 emails, the bad news is I am in the restaurant business and in the last 6-7 years I have never tried to sell them anything "Online." All I ever do is try to drive them to the restaurant to put butts in seats.

In fact I had never even had a Paypal button on my website before last night. Now I do email them 3-6 times a month, so they are very comfortable with me and trust me. I send "Dining Certificates" not coupons to them on occassion. And I have helped out friends, like a jewlery store. I sent out an email for him to my list for some free pearl earings at Valentine's Day, he said there were 70 people through the door before he closed that day and it usually takes him almost 3 months to see that many faces(It's a very small store). So I new they would act on free stuff but I want some money to exchange hands.

Here is what I came up with to test Frank Kern's "4 Day Cash Machine" and to see if I could actually get people to buy from me online and not just in the restaurant. I decided to offer my Gift Certificates at a DEEP Discount. I know that I will not have to provide the service for at least the next 10 days for some, if not 12 months for others. (I sell Gift Certificates with a 1 year expiration date). (Quick note, the industy standard on restaurant gift certifacates redemption is about 82%, so I had 18% to play with)

First I did what I will do about every 6-8 weeks, I sent them a "Dining Certificate" to come celebrate the restaurants Birtday with us. I always send them a Free "Dining Certificate" on their birthdays as long as they update their profile and let me know when it is.

Then I set up a special page on my site that they could only get to from the link in my email, no one else could get there. I then told them I had a Very Special deal for them. I did not hard sale anything, more like a "Since your are a valuable part of my business I want to give you something even more than the "Dining Certificate'" type pitch. I did use the scacity because I truly can't sell discounted Gift Certificates for long. So I told them they would have 4 day, until Saturday Night. And I said if they went crazy with this and order a lot more than I thought, I would give them a hour notice email and take it down early.

And as you can tell I am no real copywritting expert and my spelling and grammar sucks and I write like I speak but I can get my point across and they don't seem to mind to much since I have very few opt-out monthly.

Well, it is 9:50 pm central time and the email went out just before 3pm. It was amazing, watching the paypal order start almost immediately. They all know that I meant what I said when I said "I don't usually Do this but...blah blah blah."

I now know that this is a list of buyers so I will be learning more about CPA offers, as I don't think they are ready for Internet Marketing type stuff ....YET. I will lead them to the IM stuff slowly.

Thanks to Everyone on the Warrior Forum and Thanks for listening to my story. I am not trying to brag because hopefully I am just scratching the surface and I have much more to learn.

Thanks again to all,

Paul

p.s. Note: The $5,900 is after discounts, the front is price before discount is $12,000+, absoluetly amazing from one email. I absoultely love this IM stuff. I'm almost afraid to email them tomorrow but not really.

I got more websites to start building and email addresses to get collecting.

This is a great example of exactly what we can do for offline businesses. Add this to a handful of other methods and you'll see a strong increase in sales.

Granted, you did it for your own, but the end results are the same.

Just imagine the numbers for a business where their lifetime customer value is higher.

I missed the running joke evidently, What or where is the "Jewelry Store" story, thread or Joke? I love to get in on it

I truly do have a buddy of 12 years that owns a Jewlery Store, and We joint Venture several times a year. I have an Upper Scale restaurant, so he want to get access to them and he gives my list freebies or discounts at Christmas and Valentine's day at a minimum.

Now the next question would be...how else can you start to increase profits using that list of yours =)

Perhaps a referral-based contest for increased word-of-mouth traffic?

        Nice story.

It's amazing the assets the average brick and mortar business has when you start looking at using internet marketing methods to capitalize on those assets.

    Hey Pauli,

Wonderful example. You took the action, and it worked. You also had the foresight to collect customers' email adresses. So many small businesses don't.

A cohort and I teach a marketing workshop for local businesses - we do so at my office where we can seat 30 people.

May I read your post to attendees during the workshops?

It will be on the audio recordings attendees get from the workshop. Hopefully this will encourage them to take action in their own businesses.

    Thanks.

      Hey Don,

That would be fine by me, but like Billie Mays used to say "But Wait There's More." Wait until the weekend is over, the results are getting a little crazy and I will come back and add to the above post.

      Thanks

      Pauli

p.s. If you use it, I'd love to see a video or hear audio of the discussion and see peoples' reactions and maybe even suggestion, if anybody has any, on how it could be improved upon.

The spin on the "coupon" as a dining certificate (i.e. cash equivalent) is an important one. Good stuff! Offliners should consider that one when they are consulting on programs and campaigns with clients (you should also nab some of the stats mentioned for use when talking to restaurtant prospects specifically).

      Nic,

I have used the term "Dining Certificate" for years, it has a much higher preceived value than the word "Coupon."

I often do a "No Strings Attached Dining Certificate" for a slow weekend to drive some extra business like Spring Break. The Check average is usually higher than average checks, the Law of Resoprosity is a wonderful thing.

      Thanks,

      Pauli

    Hey Paulie,

Excellent example and congrats on your '4 day cash machine sale'.

I have several restaurant clients and growing their email list can bring them so many benefits from driving in customers on quiet days to birthday promotions and JV's.

Quick question - can you elaborate a little more on what a 'dining certificate' is?

    Thanks,

      Riz,

Yeah basically it's a term I started using years ago instead of coupon, mainly because I think that hate that word and I think devalues my food and service and I have a fine dining restaurant.

"Dining Certificate has a much higher preceived value, especially when do as a "No Strings Attached" offer.

The promotion I am running now is basically a "Dining Certificate" that people are paying me for, Ain't Life Great. I will PR the half they are not paying for and only have cost of goods in it, so 30% or so depending on what they order. And like I've already said, people will tend to spend more when they get free stuff, the Law of Resprocity is almost as good a Compounding Interest.

      Thanks,

      Pauli

Hey guys, did not realize all the interest, it's been a long day. One quick up date and then I'll come back tomorrow to catch up on some of these questions.

I sent my second "4 day cash machine email at 3:34pm today, basically 24 hours later(withine 30 minutes). At that time before the email, I had received $9,212 worth of patments and $18,424 in sales. I said Holy Crap(but more like Joe Biden) more than once or twice today. I still can not believe it.

Well off the mail Gift Certificates from day 1.

I'll be back soon after I get caught up. (If this is what a Lauch feels like, I want more. I'm still pretty pumped up, I have far exceeded my expectations)

I can understand your feeling. The first cheque from Email Marketing, it is always wonderful.

Knowing that you want to leverage on your 6000 email lists that you have for some CPA offers, which is quite a good idea.

When you want to explore the potential of other market (other than restaurant or f&b market) with you list, you can consider Joint Venture Affiliate Program also.

However, very importantly, always keep in mind that never ruin the Trust of your list subscribers. Give them real valuable information & real good product when you are marketing somebody else offer to them.

All the best with your upcoming venture. You will surely do better & better.

Alright guys, the final numbers astonished me to say the least. I even cut it off 10 hours early because I was getting pretty freaked out by the response I was having.

I offered $100 gift Certificates to my list for $50(50% off), $75 GC for $45(40% off) and $50 for $35(30% off). Of course 95% of the people took the $100 "Steal of a Deal" for $50. I promoted it in the week of the restaurants 12 year birthday and called it my "Steal of a Deal" and my birthday present to them.

Sales for April are already tracking 12% or so higher (April is usually slow for us), people feel like they have more money and are eating when they normally might not come out to dine with us. We are more "Polished Casual" and a special event restaurant(Birthday and Anniversaries type thing)

Well anyway, that's the details of the How, Now of the final numbers:

First email went out at 3:30pm on Wednesday and produced $9,215 in money and $18,425 in discounted gift certificates sales.

Second email went out Thursday at 3:45pm and produced $5,825 in money and $11,650 in discounted Gift certificates slaes.

Third and finally email went out Friday at 4:00pm, telling them I was going to stop it early at 2pm on Saturday because of the huge response and if they wanted to come by the restaurant between Noon and 2pm they could purchase without having to pay online(many of them were worried about paying online.....)

So Saturday at 2pm I stoped it and from Thursday to Saturdday at 2pm the totals were $8,490 in money and $16,975 worth of discounted Gift Certificates.

For a grand total of $23,525 in REAL MONEY and $47,050 in discounted Gift Certificates Sales. I post this because none of my friends or family would even understand how amazing this is from 3 emails and to let you guys in on it since I have learn so much from the Warrior Forum.

I don't have any screen capture software and even if I did I probably would not post it because I'm not that into that stuff. Believe me or not, it matter not to me because I have nothing to sale here in the forum and can NOT see doing so in the foreseeable future.

So please use this information as you please and I hope it helps some of the onliners going to the Offline World.

    Thanks

    Pauli
