I'd give oDesk a second look as well. It can help you avoid the shotgun approach with people.

I have a full-time VA from globolstaff.com right now.

So far they have given me nothing but great customer service. All the VAs work in the company's office under supervision from their team leaders, so you don't have to worry if your VA works less hours than he/she should.

At the end of each day, the VA will send a report detailing what they did for the day (and the report is being 'CC'-emailed to their leaders as well)

The price is slighly higher than some other outsourcing companies but for me, the service is worth it. It's better than hiring an individual whom you can't track what the VA is really doing during working hours..

Sure, id love to help you out.

The thing is, most IMers outsource to the wrong people. And this is normal considering the boundaries you have to go through. Quite simply put, the best people to work for you are from

1.) fresh graduates from reputable universities
2.) Call center agents (those who are trying to enter and those that are trying to go out as its pretty stressful work)

I have 3-4 people working for me and they are all fresh grads (one just had her RN license, so talk about writing for health niches?)

What I would suggest you to do is to get someone/a company to break the boundaries for you. Get someone, build professional relationship with her, and let her build a team for you.

If you're serious about your business. This is the best way to do it. Again, this is how I started and people might have other ways of doing it, but it has worked well for me.

I think you should try Odesk again. It's a very good site to find people. As TomG suggested, use a triat assignment to separate the time wasters.

All my VAs are hired from oDesk so far, and most of them are from the Philippines and they are great.

Of course you pay for what you get. Pay more to get better ones.

You can also try onlinejobs.ph which is a paid service.

In order to find the right person you need to test many. Give them small paid tasks and asess their perfomance based on your criteria. Guru, Odesk freelancer are good for that.

Chris Ducker's Virtual Staff Finder offers dedicated VAs from the Philippines. Depending on the tasks you need to outsource, you can spend $300 - $500 per month for your VA's salary.

Take note though that using that service will cost you an initial $300 something as the service will do the job of finding the right VA for you according to your needs. IMHO, considering the amount of time and effort it takes to find the right VA whose trustworthy and reliable at the same time, i think the initial fee is worth it.
