There's a lot of information on this already here in the forum, but in a nutshell, to build an e-mail list you need to have something of value that you can give people in exchange for their address. Make it good - if it's something practically worthless, you'll have a lot of immediate UNsubscribers and no trust is built.

Here's a way to do it in a nutshell.

Figure out what the top 3-5 questions are for the particular niche you are targeting. You can do this my reading forums, blogs, yahoo answers etc...

Formulate answers to these questions and write a short guide going over these questions and your answers to them. Provide as much detail and depth you can so that your guide is of value. Pictures and diagrams help a lot too.

Use this as a lead magnet for anyone who signs up to your list for this niche/product you're promoting.

Hope that gives you some ideas.

I couldn't agree with Laura more. If you want to attract people to you and get them to join their list, you should spend your time giving them genuine value to help them improve.

For article marketing, make sure that you pick a topic that 1) will solve a specific question and 2) avoid being vague (don't be afraid to give your best advice) and give a detailed explanation of how to answer that question.

As you add more and more value to your viewers lives and businesses, they will start to see you as an authority in the field of marketing and therefore will want to follow your advice to get the results they want in business.

Keep up the good work and remember - value is king! The more you help others is the only way to get what you want - And it'll come back 10 fold!

Some good answers above. There is a ton of information on List Building here on Warrior Forum. Just do a search and you will find some great results.

If you want to start out Free try MailChimp or Aweber is the best for the long run starting at around $20/month but they have a free trial.

Try going to master-resell-rights.com and pick a PLR product that is related to your niche. Make sure that it has useful info. Make people subscribe to get it for free and then start an email series giving a lot of good info and market your clickbank products through the emails. (Join other marketers list and see how they make there emails for tips on writing good Ads.)

    Best of Luck!

    Free product>squeeze page>drive traffic

That's all you need to do to build yourself a list. From there you need to learn how to KEEP your list, which is something a lot less products talk about.

You should be thinking W-I-D-E-R than the product you want to
sell. Building a list can be challenging.

In some niches building lists is easier than others, but in all of them
it's the responsiveness of the list that matters more than the size.

It can take a lot of work, I'll not kid you, but it's one of the best
ways to drive high-quality traffic on demand to offers.

HowWhoWhen, above, has a pretty sensible outline of how to build
    a list.

    ###

I've kind of not pursued it much, but I wrote an ebook about
hustling to make recession income and put out a few articles
about making money in a recession. I put a link to get the
ebook for free in the sig. The clickthrough rates were pretty
strong because "How to make money in a recession" is a
hot search made by desperate people... and my product
was free. I haven't actually verified that any subscribers to
that list ever became buyers yet, though, so my thinking is
that most of them won't be until they get employed again.
So it's the kind of list that I don't think will be much good
now, but later it might be. I could find ways to monetize
that "niche" now but a combination of ethics and lack of
interest have kind of held me back.

Anyway - the "make money in a recession" appeal to get
a subscriber was a pretty good one and not hard to
implement at all, aside from writing the book.

Ye, totally agree, it's a pretty simple process that can become quite complicated!

Keep it simple and always add value, Frank Kern said "The amount of money you earn is directly proportional to the amount of value you provide to your market."

It's really important that what you're offering is of high value for a number of reasons! Firstly, you'll be able to establish a stronger relationship with your subscriber right from the beginning.

Relationships; after all, is where the money's at! Make a good bonus

Treat your list like an old friend, don't just hammer it for businesses purposes. Get some dialog going on a blog related to the list if you can.

    Hello,

In order to build a list, you need to give something away that is valuable. I would suggest a video that shows them something helpful to help them build their online business.

You can go to master-resale-rights for some ideas of something to give away. You can purchase the rights to a product (an ebook or videos) and if allowed, you can give this product away to your prospects in exchange for their name and email address.

Once you get your capture page setup with your free offer, I would suggest doing solo ads or merely purchasing co-registration leads in order to build your list really fast.

    Take care,

    Jon

Majority of those who venture out into IM do this but never bother to build a list. They just sell right away.

But just like what they say, build your list first.

    List Building 101

Find something of value you can give away for free (there are lots of sites that have free ebooks like www.floodle.net)

Use NVU to create a "squeeze page" that offers the item. Explain it's benefits and how it will help the prospect solve their problem. You can find TONS of squeeze pages that ask for name and email for examples.

Drive traffic to the squeeze page. You can do this with article marketing and write articles that have a natural conclusion of getting the freebie described above. Or you can use paid methods like PPC.

You will get subscribers. Now all you have to do is BUILD A RELATIONSHIP with those subscribers. A good, responsive list is one that at least 25% open an email the first day you send it out and that is what you are aiming for. You need to give enough "secrets" or details of whatever you are going to eventually sell that the people on your list CRAVE your next email.

Then send the "sales" email to the list and you will get sales. The number that you will get depends upon how well you do the above step.

You will need to use a PAID autoresponder to accomplish everything above. I recommend Aweber.

Hope this lays it out for you.

Bottom line----> Audience + Relationship + Product Promotion = Sales
