Yahoo acquires Associated Content

Yahoo Buys Associated Content

Yahoo has acquired startup Associated Content for slightly more than $100 million in a deal that gives the portal new technology and a new strategy for producing low-cost media.
Great for Yahoo. But, will this affect writers on AC? Will their payouts be decreased? Or any changes made to any of their payment terms?

  • Well I don't think its gonna have any worse effects on AC. With Yahoo coming in, its really gonna increase the website popularity according to me. As there are a huge number of people who are not yet aware of AC but they are with yahoo. So under yahoo's tag, people will be gonna know about AC and it will help only.. I guess

Yahoo has a poor track record for running their acquisitions. I wouldnt get TOO excited.

I agree with the above comment. I wouldn't get too excited either except for the fact, the website whom I wrote numerous articles for is now owned by Yahoo.

@ theperfectstrategy, thanks for bringing that to light. Although their outbound link are NF, I use AC as part of my overall BL strategies. When I've logged into my account recently, I've glanced at that "Exciting News" blurb for a split second and kept moving.

This is going to be a wait and see, but you have to think of the strategical complications.

Others are also in the process of ramping up similar content networks.

I can see a potential "Yahoo versus Google" battle on the horizons.

I'm grabbing my tickets, some popcorn and my 3D glasses in preparation for the battle royal...

This is what bothers me, their brainstorm has everything but brains.

Yahoo pales in comparison to Google as far as traffic. That being said, if you write for AC and they are owned by Yahoo then there is a good chance that your articles will rank well on their search engine but we will see.

The good or bad news depends on if the existing management is changed and replaced by a better one. Let the big Y! clear the stink and bring in some real fresh air so everyone can breath better there.

Amazingly enough, I remember when A/C was just a babe, and now it's the hundred million dollar machine. The secret to their success as much as the content writing, is the system that serves it up on their site. A lot of proprietary coding and innovative content matching has helped this site earn such a big payday.

      Hey Clark.

AC was never a "baby" - as far as I know. It's just that it never created controversies and came in the mask.

Also, Yahoo is known to buy companies for prices higher than their market value.

Just like Google did when it purchased Youtube. If yahoo paid that much money for a single website, then obviously they see alot of money to be made back from doing so.

This may well also be a move to stop other search engines from getting to them first.

          Hey Chris.

I don't think YouTube's acquisition was expensive considering it's value now. And yes, I think Yahoo might integrate AC's search with it's own, or vice-versa.

Might just turn out to be profitable for 'em.
