Hi guys. I went to back page and promoted 2 things. one set of ads promoted an affiliate product where you can make instant cash from home. Another set of ads said that I would build people a free money making website...this one had the intent of getting people to sign up under my affiliate link. After that I got no sales. like 2 people from craigslst inquired about the service but no bites. what happened?? i thought classified ads worked for selling all kinds of things.

I tried this as well after seeing it in a few WSOs and other advice posts but both Craigslist and USFreeads were a bust for me. I think it may depend on your niche, if it's a saturated one where the consumer thinks they've seen it all (like weight loss, or work-at-home-and-get-rich), it's going to be hard to get them to click or chase a link.

They're cynical basically, having purchased and gotten burned on many magic-bullet products previously, so you'll need to overcome that with creative copy. Similar to how that popular "Lose weigth using this one weird old trick" line got going last year and doubled CTR wherever it was displayed.

This is only a short term option, I would only recommend if you have a very specific and in demand product.

Classified Ads are fine if you are selling a car, a boat or something tangible...

Classified Ads sometimes even work for services...

But Classified Ads are generally going to be a bust if you use them to sell Affiliate products, and if the community realizes what you are doing, they will delete your ads... And if enough of your ads are deleted, so will you be...

There are nearly 3 dozen ways you can promote your stuff online, and classified ads is one of them... And certainly, Classified Ads are one of the worst methods for promoting Affiliate Products...

What are the promoting methods have you been utilizing?

How long have you been promoting? It sounds like your niches are not standing out of the rest.

All kinds of things could have gone wrong. Here's a short list:

-- The ads got flagged for spam.
    -- The ads didn't convert.
-- The landing page didn't convert.
-- The ads weren't in the right section.
-- The ads weren't targeted. (e.g., your target market isn't on CL)
-- The ads/pages looked like scams.
-- No one wants the product / no demand.
-- Not a good offer / not a good price.
    -- One-step method not sufficient -- need two-step method.
-- People don't believe you / your offer.
    (Etc)

Did I mention your ads may have gotten flagged as spam?

I agree it's a pretty short term option. You do a fair amount of work to get all these links out there. You get a couple of bites and then you may or may not make some sales. It's kind of a hit and miss tactic.

You really want to have something that can at least do some kind of work for you or give you something to build upon. That way, you aren't starting from scratch each time you do some marketing work.

Besides selling services, my next most effective CL strategy is sending people to a free report that points to my offer...

The express intent of the free report is to better qualify my prospects and to make a better case (pre-sell) for my offer...

    tpw,

Giving away a free report is a great way to see if you are getting qualified folks, plus building a list.

Using CL has been great for selling products and get sales reps. I think you have to do on CL like everywhere else... right product.... right offer... right price.

    Cheers,

    Millard

There was a very short period where spamming offers on sites like Craigslist and USFreeAds worked - because no one else was doing it, and it slipped under the radar. Then some ambitious folks followed a well-marked trail. First they sold how-to info products on spamming classified sites, and followed it up with software so that even the lazy and inept could add to the manure pile.

There was a streak here for awhile where posters would whine about their ads disappearing within minutes, their accounts getting closed, their latest scheme to get around the rules, etc.

As for the people looking on these sites, when you're mucking through the manure pile, one road apple looks pretty much like the next...

I don't know exactly what you did, but CL is very picky about promoting offers, unless you are collecting leads from CL any other method can get you banned, CL is just to create a list or get leads otherwise you can be flag

Links on CL I've heard were only really good in the forum type area, and only when it answered a specific question or problem that a real person raised. The landing page can't be too salesy either, and I can't use video marketing as much because people may recognize me from other higher end offers.

Think about it, if all you had to do was put some ads on some classified sites, and then just sit back and make money, or even build a list...don't you think everyone would be doing it? And nothing else.

Hm - good luck with classified ads in general. Recently the 'net has become
so saturated with spammers that those are probably the only responses
      you'll receive!

For a long time, classifieds, safelists and traffic exchanges were OK to give
away free stuff - at least you were able to grow your list. But now I have
found them even less effective for list building.

You'll spend a lot of time with little or no return.

Craigslist has added "nofollow" to all their ads so you probably won't get
picked up by the SEs. And every month they add more rules to their
automation to reject ads they feel are not appropriate.

      Forget about it!!

If your ad did not take potential client to your website, to your sqz page then the results are normal.

Once they are in your sales funnel you can send proper sales material to them.

Frequent contact with valuable content = trust

People buy from those they like and trust.

Get back to building the list?

Something that I have had success with on classified sites is actually posting content like an article or other useful information. I try to provide something of value in the post and then just put one link at the bottom that goes to my landing page.

I try to split the paragraphs up more and keep the writing style light and keep it very simple just like I am just having a conversation with someone.

Some cities I post have got me good results other cities have shown almost zero results.
