Writing Press Release Content?

INTERNET MARKETING

I'm purchasing some press release from a couple of news sites. Although I have a fairly good idea of what, and how, to write I was looking for a few pointers.

One question that's on my mind is all the news sites I am working with are asking for content between 150 and 200 words. Seems a little short. Is this right?

Also, can links be included in the content?

Generally I try to write a press release around 300 words. There is a good wso on press releases with examples presently running. I used that wso since it has several examples. I think the price is less than $15.

  I have written 2 press releases since buying this wso, and the first was titled "small business marketing is changing in the US"
  it was actually #1 in all 3 search engine news results for the term "small business marketing"
  of course it didnt stay there long because its a very high traffic keyword and a lot of news.
  
  The second was a small town chamber of commerce P.R. and it actually made it to google search results at #5 for the search term for that chamber.
  
  All in all a very good report on this wso for me.

Here are my press release writing tips:

1) Find a very recent really interesting stat and use that as your title
2) Write your opinion about it as an expert in your industry
3) Use one anchor text link to your website

This is the best practice for having your press release picked up by other news sources.
