Autoblogging....Duplicate Content!

I've been looking at autoblogging recently, and it seems to me that the essence of it is to copy content from competing sites

This would obviously create duplicate content...so is this a big deal? how do you guys deal with it?

There are several ways around it (if your in the Duplicate Content is an issue camp)

You Can use a wordpress plugin: WPUnique
    (Im assuming your using Wordpress)

Or you can modify the beginning and end paragraphs of the article to contain some unique content.

I am certain I have seen some WSO's on here in the past dealing with this.

Please don't take this the wrong way, I see you're quite new. Point is there have been numerous threads discussing this and if you use the search link at the top right you can read some really interesting information on this and how to do it properly.

Rsberg seems a pretty good authority on this, I'd recommend listening to him, he does this sucessfully and ethically right to avoid any of the shenannigans you're worried about.

As Richard said, there are many threads here about what duplicate content is and is not, do a search here for it and you will certainly find them.

What you're worried about (using content from other sources to fill your blogs) is not an issue as long as you do it legally and ethically. What you need to worry about is having the same piece of content (an article for example) on the same site multiple times.

I've done some tests with having the same product listed (with the exact same description and picture) on the same site in multiple places (pages, posts..etc) and haven't noticed any real issues with this yet as far as the search engines treating the site differently once those pages are indexed...but I've kept it to a minimum and am keeping an eye on it as it seems to me that this could potentially cause an issue (depending on how it's done) but as I said...hasn't yet.

I've looked into this plugin and I realize it does offer some other benefits but the main feature seems to be that it will change the source code on a piece of content that you copy from somewhere on the net to make it appear new or "unique" to the search engines. It does seem to be producing results but my fear here is that it will only be a matter of time before Google and the rest hear about this type of approach and make some changes to adapt to it. I personally don't like the idea of trying to fool or trick the search engines into thinking that something is unique when it's not.

If you change parts of an article (beginning and end paragraphs) to make it "unique" this to me seems to be stealing.

Anyone can do anything they want as far as posting content and I certainly don't want to come off as the content police but if you are going to take the time to do IM and all it entails then why not do it legally and ethically?

You hear so many stories about people getting accounts banned, multiple sites deindexed...etc etc when autoblogging...many times (not all but many) when you start talking to them you find out that they were doing some things that would be questionable at best and some times down right illegal at worst. I just think it's best to avoid these types of tactics all together and focus on building quality sites that provide value to the reader and the net as a whole.

The amount of time and energy people spend doing things like trying to trick the search engines or manipulating content so it appears unique could easily be spent on other activities that aren't legally or morally questionable and in the end can certainly produce the desired results.
