Yahoo Answers, Live Links and Level 2 Status?

With all the talk lately about using Yahoo Answers for a source of traffic by getting your link out there with it, I started answering questions yesterday only to find that my links weren't live. some posts out there said that your YA links don't become live until you reach "Level 2," which takes several days worth of answering questions (fewer if some people choose yours as "the best answer").

Is that part true? The part about not having your links be live until level 2? It doesn't say anything about it on the Yahoo! Answers site.

Thanks.

Ken

    Yes, Ken that is correct.

This guy is a top contributor and seems to know the facts:

"Note 2: As of July 2009, YA has disabled posting of clickable links for level 1 users to prevent the creation of fake accounts for the sole purpose of spreading spam and malware. You can still post your links, but they aren't clickable until a user clicks the "answer question" button and goes to the next page."

But you're right, I can't find it anywhere officially by Yahoo Answers

I believe there's a "what's this" link near your score display that breaks down the scoring system, I am surprised one in a while when I get a visit from a year old answer, but it's not a huge source of traffic, is it worth 1 visitor a day?

I agree - it's negligible for me. But perhaps I haven't used it enough..or correctly.

I've considered dedicating a budget to outsource to a yahoo expert in my niche to answer questions. Would be interesting to see how the direct traffic is by doing this on a large scale level.

I'm a big fan of Yahoo! Answers! I am a top contributor... That's how much I like it!

Only lately have I actually begun to utilize it for the new sites I've been working on. Actually answering peoples questions with AWESOME answers... Best answer all day everyday!

Yahoo! Answers has actually played a HUGE role in referring potential clients to a couple sites, b/c people are actually looking for answers to the questions that I'm answering and my site pertains 100% to their questions.

But yeah, you need to be like a lvl 2 for links to be live. It's pretty simple to get there... Just go answer some questions on a topic that interests you.

Heck, sometimes I ask questions from on Y! A's account and answer it from my other :p Still... The questions I ask and answer are sought after by others.

      CHEERS!

P.s. This is far, far from a new tactic... Yahoo! Answers and stupid ebooks about "how to really use it for IM" and all that crap is nothing new.

Its all true. But its not really hard to answer everyday to reach level 2 in no time. It is worth the effort. Actually for every question I have in mind, there is almost always a yahoo question indexed in Google for that...and yes I do visit the site recommended by the people in yahoo.

Thanks Everyone. Awesome information. I'm almost a level 2. I've reached my max # of questions answered for today though. Now I just need someone to vote another of my answers as "the best" to put me over the Level 2 finish line.

      Cheers!

        Hey Ken,

I have done a lot of extensive marketing with Yahoo Answers, and I must say it is very much worth your time.

However, Yahoo Answers works the best with new niches, the older niches tend to get over statured after awhile, and hard to get traffic.

As for the live links, it is true that level I users are not permitted to use live links. Once you reach level II however your links will be clickable. Be sure that you are actually tying to add value to Yahoo Answers or your Answers account will be disabled. I’ve had several accounts disable even after I tried very hard to give solid, in depth answers.

Another benefit to Yahoo Answers that few people have really picked up on is that a lot of blogs will repost some of the answers. I’ve gotten a lot of backlinks and traffic through that.

        All the best,
        Devid
