Received my first offer for my domain...How should I go about selling this?

Hello everyone,

I just received an email from someone interested in buying a domain that I own. I am very new to all of this, so I'm not exactly sure how to go about it. They asked what my asking price is, and asked if I would take an offer of low to mid $x,xxx, which I would gladly be willing to do. What should I do to make sure this is legit, and that I could get the best deal possible? Thank you very much.

If your client is interested in closing the deal, always insist payments through escrow service for a safer side.

It is probably a scam. If you agree, they might ask you to appraise the domain from a third party provider which will cost you a couple of hundreds of bucks.

send the prospective buyer an email thanking them
for their interest in your domain name.

let them know you will be using a secured
    payment system like escrow.com

if they request domain appraisal ask them to
do it and deduct the cost from your asking price.

but never let them use their preferred domain
appraisal site. you can use sedo.com

you never can tell if a buyer is a con artist or not.

just do your due diligence and be wary of possible
    scams. period.

That's the important part. Just for anyone who isn't familiar with it, a very common scam goes this way. They want you to get it appraised at a site they trust. The appraisal is cheap compare to what they are offering.

You pay for it then they decide not to go through with the purchase. The appraisal site gives them an affiliate commission or whatever. Maybe they own it.

Not saying this is a scam, but would certainly want to check closely.

Great tips and input on the sale of domains process. I haven't done any myself as yet, but have been considering this option for some of my domains.

Setting up secure payment sounds good too.

Paypal should do the trick though, right?

If I were u, I won't choose Paypal as the payment method. They send us money and then claim a PP dispute after getting our domain/site. 90% of times we will lose the dispute.

Yeah ... sounds like the appraisal scam that Gene Pimentel warned us about yesterday going around.

Your email matches the scam going around.
Here is the thread that Suzanne was talking about that Gene posted.
