Well, it's that time of year again. Anyone have any personal recommendations on who/where to get a business card design? I'm looking for something custom, not a template.

I don't need a printer, I need a designer. VP's cards are pretty crap, too. They're much thinner and smaller than traditional business cards.

  GraphicRiver - Business Cards - Print Templates - GraphicRiver - has some great templates that I know some graphic designers use themselves to save time on work they do for clients.
  
  If you are just a bit handy with PhotoShop, you could buy a template for a few bucks and just change the text yourself.

How much do you want to spend? 99designs.com is a neat site. You can run a contest and then take your pick of designs and only pay the winner.

I design my own business cards in photoshop and then print them on card stock at my home printer. Its a great way to save money.

  When people hand me cards that I can tell were made at home I throw them away.
  
  There are only two conclusions I can make about them from their card:
  
  A) They feel its ok to be cheap and cut corners or don't understand percieved value in professionalism. If they would settle for less on their own business image, they will do it on my project. I might be wrong about them, but if all I have to go on is their card, well then they lose to the guy with a bling card.
  
  B) They don't have the experience they claim to have because they are just starting out and have no money...if they were really making money being what they claimed to be, then they could afford to drop a couple twenty bills on quality cards.
  
  But thats just me...I'm probably a little more critical of peoples business cards than the average joe
  
  Still ...hope I've given you something to think about

Why not use Google and check out the services that comes up and also their testimonials and request a sample from your specification?

although this will not work maybe for Mike Grant, a good place to get cards printed is at surfprint.co.uk Online. Design it offers free delivery and has a page where you can upload your own custom design.

C'mon guys, just because they flog themselves absolutely everywhere and are as cheap as chips does not mean you need to use them. You get what you pay for these days.

Mike - one of the things that's best to concentrate on is the paper rather than the design (not that a good design isn't important). You want that card to stand out in a pile of cards. I always use a brown or grey "leather-look" paper. If you put it in a stack of other cards, it is an extremely noticeable card. If you pin it on a board of cards, it's different enough from the others to draw the eye.

Whoever you choose -- make sure they supply the paper you want to use. If not, go elsewhere.
