Why do so many IM'ers start/work in the "Make money online' niche?

I've been doing a LOT of research these last few days (warrior forums is an AMAZING resource btw) and one thing I've noticed is that a whole lot of new people to the IM world and those who I guess would be a novice level are all a part of the 'Make money online' niche.

Why is this?

I imagine this is likely one of the most fiercely competitive markets in online marketing.

I am guilty of wanting to venture into a part of this market as well, simply because I believe that probably 90% of the products being marketed to newbies do not deliver on what they promise. But that topic is a whole thread in itself.

But it seems counter productive for so many newer people to start out in one of the toughest niches.

    I suppose it makes sense that they see the success people have in this niche since it is where they are researching and buying products from.

      Hi found your blog through some research on threads here last night. I'm eager to continue to read your online adventures!

      I'm also fairly new to this and I thought it would be good to reach out and try to make contacts with people in the same boat to support/help each other out a bit.

      Well, this is the internet marketing forum. Pretty much everything on here is related to making money online in some form or another. I agree that that particular niche is a bit oversaturated, though. I prefer the less-targeted niches, myself.

    I think a lot of people read information and buy WSO's and they want to jump straight into it and the 'Make Money Online' niche is a popular one. Problem is it is also an extremely competitive one!

    I did the same thing when I first started out I jumped straight into the IM niche. I think we believe that all these other people are making money in this niche so it must be easy!

    It's certainly not impossible to make money jumping straight into this niche, but it's a shame when there are so many other profitable niches out there too.

      And yea, I agree. Definitely not impossible to make money starting out in this niche as there is a clear demand for quality products in this niche that is simply not being met imo.

          Yes, the MMO niche is competitive, but potentially lucrative if you have credibility and a unique perspective/approach.

          I don't buy IM products from people who don't have credibility. I prefer they demonstrate they've made money online via the method they're hawking preferably in a non-IM niche. Sure, some people can fake testimonials and screenshots, but generally it's not too hard to determine if they're the real deal.

          I'm not in the MMO niche precisely, although some of my posts venture toward it. I did, however, settle on fairly competitive niches that have huge markets. I'm in it for the long run.

          I have no plans to enter the MMO niche, but don't rule it out either. Those who make it big in the MMO niche work hard at it building a solid reputation.

          I suspect many people get into the MMO niche early because they've just spent months learning about it. It becomes a huge part of their life and seems like the right choice.

          In my view, there's always room for more MMO niche "gurus" but it seems to me that you'll stand a better chance of success in the MMO niche by demonstrating you've made decent money in a non-MMO niche.

              But I also like the challenge of marketing to other internet marketers. It helps me to improve my marketing skills. :rolleyes:

                Have at it! I'll take that low hanging fruit every time. If I want a challenge I'll go back to picking up high end strippers

                  I suspect it's because after buying/reading a few make money products, it's a niche they are most familiar with, or believe they are most familiar with at the time, even though they haven't made any money in it.

    Oh, I do have a skype, I just haven't added it since I don't use it much. I'll add it. I use it mostly for text instant messaging since my cats ruined my last headset and I haven't bought a new one yet.

    For sure add me and keep watching my blog! It is always good to know other people in the same boat. That is the purpose of the blog, learning with people!

    I don't really care if the newbie is gonna have a tough time making money in such a competitive niche. **** him, he's a dick for teaching IM when he just started out himself. Before giving advice to anyone, ask yourself this: If I where in the same situation, would I want advice from myself?

    Well as far as people on this forum, it's an internet marketing forum, so it would make sense that the ads and signatures you're seeing from people are internet marketing related. I think it's also due to the fact that people tend to get into niches where they feel they're knowledgeable. You might not be an expert on internet marketing if you're a newbie, but you're probably not an expert on weight loss or fitness or trading stocks either, so people tend to gravitate towards this niche because they at least know something about it, as opposed to having to learn an entirely new field.

    "The blind are leading the blind". LOL

    It's a very easy niche to find good paying affiliate offers for. When starting out, you have to spend some money on the necessities, and why not write down your unbiased reviews on them and throw in an affiliate link or two.

    Also, many people (including myself) start journal type blogs when they first start internet marketing so they can write down their experiences and what they've learned. Once you start getting traffic, then monetize on it.
