Email Marketing: Text or HTML?

I'm curious which type warriors favor or feel is superior and why?

Do you worry your fancy HTML emails won't be displayed the same to all of your users?

Most AR offer the ability to do both .. if faced with just one option I would go with text.

Back before HTML emails were a valid option .. some of us old farts actually set up the HTML version on site and Gave the text reader the option of clicking to that version.

I always send both at the same time as Aweber allows this. Just have the HTML look exactly like a regular text email. HTML allows you to style a few things better such as bolding or underlining certain words and also have text links as opposed to long urls. It also allows you to track your open rates.

I still prefer HTML. Depends on the receiver. Some may click the display image to check the image.

I send both versions in one email (most autoresponder services support this feature) because HTML links look better - you can make them bold and put a human text instead of url. But if the recipient has HTML turned off, then the plain text is shown.
Bottom line, you don't need to choose

If it is for direct marketing offers then you must always use text because text always has higher deliverability. Almost all emails services like yahoo, hotmail and aol block images in HTML by default.

However if it's about company newsletter then you must add some colors and images to your newsletter. So you must always use HTML for company newsletters.

I give the users an option, so I send both. But, personally, I like the text for email marketing because some of the users' HTML are turned off.

I always send text emails as they're less likely to get blocked as spam.

I'm using both. HTML is the only way to track opening rates, but I also like a plain text version for those who have HTML turned off or using weird mail clients.

Since my autoresponder software does not create the HTML version automatically from my text, I hired a programmer to build a tool that helps me turning my initial text into 2 formatted versions.

I'm posting the link here, hope it's ok since it's a free tool helping with the topic of this thread.

i would stick to text as some times people cant view ur html.

i receive some emails everyday with some that i cant view a single thing and i just close and delete.

so it would have been a wasted lead.

    bring ur conversion rate down.
