EzineArticles - problem status - link lacking in quality content

Did EZA change something? I've been a Platinum member for years (yes, I've got the mug! lol), and suddenly my latest batch of articles had about half of them rejected because the link "lacks quality content".

These are the same links that I've submitted (and had approved) in previous months.

Have any of you had this problem, and what do you do about it?

I could try linking to a deeper page instead of the home page (which, most home pages are thin on content). But I seem to remember having links to non-top-level domains being rejected in the past.

Thoughts?

Moderators or Article Reviewers there don't do their job right.
I asked once to know why my article was rejected or close my account since looked like there was competitor's finger there and they preferred to close the account without hesitation. The niche was specific and i had reasons to believe the reviewer was not out of that business.

They have added a lot of new reviewers - I'd send an email contesting the decision. That should lead to a different reviewer and perhaps solve the problem IF the site is not lacking quality.

EZA has tightened its standards and may have tightened up on sites linked to as well...or could be an overzealous reviewer.

    Yes, they certainly did.

It was a little while ago, after the latest Google algorithm ("Panda update") cost them and many other article directories a very substantial chunk of their daily traffic.

After a brief consultation period, during which they discussed the whole matter with their authors, very openly and constructively, on their blog, they decided to change the way they enforce a lot of their editorial guidelines, policies and procedures.

And as a result, they've become much more strict about (among other things) "pages linked to" and whether they supply informative content. As they also explain openly (also on their blog), they're particularly keen to decline articles for this reason when they feel that the article itself is also "derivative in tone" (subjective, of course).

They've also nearly doubled the numbers of their editorial staff, recently, and it may inevitably be that the degree of consistency in "editorial decision-making" can sometimes leave a little to be desired.

They do go to some lengths (again, on their blog) to explain that things that have been accepted in the past won't necessarily be accepted in the future, because they're deliberately tightening up.

I haven't, to be honest (I write expressly for syndication and link only to content-filled pages), but I know many here have.

Some - perhaps not quite appreciating that their own long-term interests actually run with EZA's on these issues, and that what EZA wants is also good for their own businesses - have even stopped using EZA because of this.

I'm guessing, of course, but I wouldn't be surprised if that's a very good idea, and helps you a lot.

Not at EZA, I think, if you're linking to your own site? Their only requirement for TLD's related to the situation in which they're being re-directed to affiliate offers (clearly not a good policy for authors, anyway). You can link to any page you like, as long as it gives informative content.

      Alexa -

You're awesome. Thanks for explaining this so clearly.

Not wanting to be a total nub, I did, indeed, search their blog about the topic but didn't come up with anything. Bad search terms I guess.

But thanks for spelling it out! I still get more syndication from EZA than any other source, so I still want to work with them. One article at EZA seems to be worth multiple articles at other sites because of how many website owners republish from EZA. But if I can't get links to the sites I'm trying to promote, that won't work at all.

      Thanks again, Alexa!
