Do aged sites with PR receive as many "slaps" or trips to the sandbox as new sites?

Wondering if anyone has had experience with an older site that has done well suddenly dropping heavily in rankings or being deindexed. I have a site that is just over a year old, doing very well in the rankings and starting to make me money. It is PR2. My concern is that I have been branching out into newer backlinking methods (profiles, blog comments, trackbacks) to try and go after a bunch of longtails and do a lot of deep linking. I am not going crazy with it, but i do see some of the profiles being placed on adult type forums, etc. Input?

Yeah I've had it happen before... you're not immune, although I'm guessing an established domain is less likely to be targeted (but at the same time, it's the successful ones they may be keeping an eye out for).

When it happened I could never tie it to shady marketing/SEO methods, I sometimes when google changes the algorithm some people just get screwed. That being said, the traffic eventually all came back after about 6 months.
