REVIEW MY BUSINESS MODEL!

I know it's long, but please take a look!
Okay, here's what I got thus far.

Niche: Improve your vertical jump as an athlete.

Idea:
  • Build site (probably WP) with custom graphics/skin. Make it look attractive and unique.
  • Build product, an information pack on vertical jump improvement.
    • Why this? Because competitors are all selling jump programs. I have to sell something different, right? So I sell information/science instead of programs.
    • How do I protect my product from being stolen and leaked? If it's just going to be a word document or series of video lectures, is there software or something I can use to prevent it being leaked/stolen/pirated?
  • Ensure site has a squeeze page to the email opt-in.
  • Ensure site has a sales page to actually purchase the product.
  • Sell copies of product through email list?
    • Keep people on list interested by sending them unique insights and information regularly?
  • Get people into the list by offering a discount on product? Not fond of the idea because it pressures them into purchasing product. Perhaps send them a snippet of information as an incentive? Or a 7-day video series to get them on the list. How easy is this kind of 7-day video series thing to create?
  • Advertise through YouTube.
    • Post videos of me doing unique jump training.
    • Post videos of other successful jumpers.
    • This is what my main competitor is doing.
  • Advertise via article marketing.
  • Advertise offline at basketball/volleyball/athletics clubs. Posters/flyers/etc.
  • Build email list, build email list, build email list - once it's big enough bomb them with a product? Or look for another way to get sales?

What do you think? Could you answer the questions in bold? Thanks a lot!

I don't think people want to know the science behind jumping higher, as much as they want to - jump higher.

To jump higher, you need to understand how to make the physiological changes to your body. I suppose I could teach this science in a hands on way...

              Fair enough.

I just think that for every 1 person who wants to know the science behind it, 99 people just want to be told what to do.

Have you been on lots of forums to find out?

Most people I've ever came across in the fitness industry just want to be given the magic button, much like the MMO niche.

Just don't sell yourself short in regards to potential customers.

But that's what all the competition is doing. AirAlert, VerticalJumpBible, JumpManual, etc. They're nothing more than jump programs. I need something to separate myself from these guys. What will be that one thing that makes my program/product unique!

That's why these guys don't come out with a science book.

They've done their research and they know what the customers want.

Even if your product is unique, they might look at it and still decide to go with the magic formula.

There's being unique, and there is being more attractive to potential customers. You need both, and I don't personally think a science book is more attractive than a magic formula. I might be wrong - it's only my opinion.

No, I appreciate very much what you're saying Fin. There's just so much controversy with jump programs and how people are saying they're 'all the same'. Why is 'this one better than that one'.

Perhaps I could avoid the science end of things and move towards more of a video approach? A lot of jump programs are text-based, but people want to see people jumping and how each exercise should be done.

I'm thinking a combination of science, videos and text?

Yeah, nothing wrong with adding some science. Using some videos sounds like a great idea.

Every couple years, someone comes to my town and tries to open a fast-food fish restaurant in the same building.

About six months later, they go out of business, and the building sits vacant for a year or two.

Then some other enterprising franchiser says "You know what this town needs and doesn't have?! A fast-food fish restaurant!"

And he buys the same damn building...

Sometimes your competitors aren't doing something because it doesn't work.

There's still room for fast-food fish in this town, if you ask me... but you have to figure out why all the other fast-food fish goes broke, and then not do that.

Know what I think? I think it's the building. I think no matter what fast-food place you open there, it's going to go broke.

I'm not sure how popular this niche is, and how many people are going to be willing to spend money on it. But, it does seem that you would do well to target student athletes and coaches, and even martial artists and martial arts instructors. I'm sure with a little brainstorming, you can think of some other groups to target.

Personally, I avoid Wordpress because everyone else is using it. But, it does seem easy, and there is a lot of support for it... Probably very quick, and your best bet.

Indeed, you want to have that unique selling point.

If it is good, it is going to be stolen. Legal action (or the threat of it) and Copyscape seem to be the popular answers. Personally, I just keep creating info that nobody else can keep up with, and leave the crumbs behind for the thieving cockroaches, if that is all they want out of life.

A squeezepage may get you more opt-ins, but simply putting an opt-in form on your Wordpress site will probably get you better quality leads-- People who actually want to be on your list, and are not just doing it for something free.

Yep, obviously you need a way to accept payment. Paypal is easy and widely trusted.

When it comes to email, I very strongly suggest that you do not just throw emails at people in an order that you think makes sense... Learn about email campaign structure from people who are already making a living through their email campaigns. Try to learn from someone who fits your "style".

No, don't ever start by offering a discount. It may get more people, but they are unlikely to be the people you want on your list. Aim for people who are willing to pay for quality information. My favorite method is to offer people lessons, for example a 7 or 15 day lesson course. This also gets them into the habit of actually opening my emails (which is another challenge you are going to face.)

Do you have a camera? Start filming. Show professionalism, but be yourself... Sort of "Yourself in Professional Mode"

Hmm... Good that you know what your competitor is doing. Let me ask you something, because I don't know: How does traffic get to Youtube? Won't you still have to drive traffic to the videos? And, people watching Youtube videos seem to want to learn things for free. If you give away the milk for free, is anyone still going to want to buy the cow?

I very, very strongly suggest that you read the many great posts here in the Warrior Forum about Article Syndication. Then, target student athletes, coaches, karate schools, etc.

Very glad that I didn't have to tell you this one... You're a step ahead of the game. Make sure that your advertising is professional, and this is the most important part: Don't try to sell anyone through your advertising. Try to get them to talk about it, to spread it around to all of their friends... When people are talking about it, and listening to their friends who they know, like, and trust, well then you are about to get business.

I wouldn't ever "Bomb" them with anything. It is more a process of building your credibility, recommending things, and making offers. How you approach this, and keep it balanced, is going to determine a lot of your success.

I don't know if you're going to make a living from this idea, because I have no idea how many people are going to be interested in paying money in exchange for scientific info on how to increase their vertical jump? But aren't the Olympics coming up sometime soon?

    Best wishes.

Hi Harvey, you can have an ebook on each of your questions. The first do the research, if there is enough people interested in your product. If there is, you may start with some answers to the questions you find out from your research. After you have enough subscribers, you can offer them your course as a membership site.

If you have a membership model based on the email delivery, the chance than people become members download your course and cancel the membership is greatly reduced. It goes without saying that you need to have some way to communicate with your prospective customers. To became your subscribers, you need to offer them some goodies. Don't give them junk, but some valuable info, which you could sell otherwise.

Remember that no one has the second chance to make a First Impression. This is how you build your reputation. Depending on your technical skills of building the website. Easiest way is the Wordpress, but unless you have some pro template, it is a bit limited. However, it has an advantage that it is usually registered by Search engines.

My suggestion is to have combination of the Wordpress and static site. This way you have advantage of the both.

I'd like a static HTML site if possible, but in the past I've had trouble getting such sites indexed on Google. Thanks for your info'.

EXTREMELY successful info product in this niche :

The Jump Manual: Jump higher with comprehensive vertical jump training by Jacob Hiller.

I would suggest doing it exactly the way they are, perhaps try to come up with your own unique USP and Hook... a way to differentiate yourself!

Maybe do the info product with your sales page saying why YOUR product is better than this one.

As a BONUS also include so videos of you and others performing your jumping moves...

THis product is a proven winner. I would try to stick as closely to the way it is marketed as closely as possible without outright copying it..

      Good luck.

why worry about competition. This niche is good.

competitions means that there are some people that are wanting this info sitting out there searching for it.

I would study your competition, is there a way you can become the authoritive figure, or take control. Or what can you do to add value, and make them buy your stuff. Remember create value, and create an offer people cannot refuse.

Since doing this and offering $1 trials on our stuff our income has increase dramatically.

          Good luck.

    Hey Harvey M,

What IS truly unique about your product/techniques and most importantly you?

You need to find you USP (Unqiue Seeling Point) and get laser targetted on that and focus on that in all your marketing....can your programme gets results, quicker, faster, and easier than all the other programs. THAT is what people want from you....no one cares how their cellphone works - they just want it to make and receive calls. The same goes for your product...they don't even want your programme they want the RESULTS. If you can show them how your programme can deliver the results, quicker, faster, easier and with less effort you will be onto a winner.

    Stay Strong & Prosper

    Cheers
