A Newbie's Action Plan. Please help me find the flaws

A bit about myself and how I got into all this. I started a personal blog because I was bored. I started it 6 months ago. My skills in writing satire and humour made my blog very popular fast. Six months later I switched the blogspot.com URL and got myself a new .com domain. One month after switching to a new domain, Google updated its page rank, and I got a PR of 3. I now have an alexa of 270,000. I been blogging for close to 8 months now and I must say I have not been kind to my blog. There were periods when I have completely forgotten about it. I have only 43 posts in my blog at the moment.

But starting this blog has given me a lot of exposure to seo and internet money making. I haven't monetized my personal blog because I think it has no commercial value and hence it will be a waste of time monetizing but I think I have the knowledge to succeed in making money online because I spent this period learning how.

I have decided to commit the next year to invest my time and energy in building a website which I hope will be a money making machine. Please tell me if there are any flaws in the action plan I made below:

1. I have been doing some freelancing writing jobs in freelancer.com to make the money required for my new website. I have 100$ at the moment and I think it is more than sufficient for me to make my websites.

2. I am going to host my website in blogger because the hosting is free. I need to spend money only for the domain purchase which comes close to 10$ a year. I know some of you will say wordpress is better but I have experience with SEO in blogger and I know how to optimize everything manually in the html code in blogger. Any other reasons apart from the SEO why I should not use blogger?

3. I am going to start 3 websites at the same time. They will have the following themes:

a) Romance, Dating, Marriage and Love etc
b) Intelligence, Brain, Smartness, Memory, etc
c) Health, Fitness, Diet etc

4. I have done considerable keyword research in Google ad words. I am initially targeting the low competition keywords. I will use the high competition keywords too in my content but I don't hope to rank for those keywords till my site has a considerable page rank and popularity. Like for example, Dating has a high competition. This is one keyword that I definitely want to rank in. But instead of trying to rank for it, I will try to rank for other keywords which will drive traffic into my site.

5. I am not going to start the website till I have written down the content for the next 6 months. This is something that I have to do. I will get so fascinated trying to monetize and optimize my site for the search engines that I will forget to write. So what I decided to do is, have content written down for the next six months and upload it all and make the settings such that blogger publishes one post on a particular time of the day, every day, for the next six months. That means I will need close to 30x6=180 posts. I can't wait to start my website and make my money out of it, so I guess I will get this done and over within the next month or so.

6. Once the article is written down and uploaded, I put the automatic publishing of one post per day. I am planning to post at 9 AM EST. I live in India so that means it is 7:30 PM in my country. Is there any other specific time that I should be posting?

7. I will build my facebook fan page and I will try to get facebook likes for my fan page. I want most of my traffic from America and Europe so I am not going to do any advertising in my country. What I will do is start adding people who play the social games in facebook like farmville and mafia wars etc into my fake facebook account. I will target users from USA. It is to these people that I will advertise and tell about my site. I know that I can buy facebook fans for my site. But is it really worth it? Fiverr offers some 20000 fans for 5$. I guess I will opt for that. I have after all invested only 30$ so far (10$ for each site) So I will spend 15$ more to boost the number of fans in my facebook page.

8. I am planning to buy tweet adder. Not only will it help me automate my tweets but it will also help me improve my followers reach. I would like to know if this is good software to use.

9. I would have already started to monetize my blog. Along with the content that is getting published each day, there will be several affiliate links. The content will be informative and VERY useful to the reader. Along with it there will a cleverly disguised advertisement of the affiliate. I think I will put at least one affiliate in each of my posts. But will that make the number of out bound links in my site too much. Is there a way to make the affiliate links no follow? However, I will ensure that none of the affiliate lines appear in my home page.

10. I will also work on link building. The only form of link building that I am familiar with is link exchange. I might write guest posts but finding similar sites and writing guest posts for them is a little hard. I am pretty sure I can get a PR of 3 minimum just by doing link exchange. But that is not enough is it? I need a lot of back links rite? Well from my understanding, for the low ranked keyword, you don't need that many back links to get ranked for, provided you have the keyword so many times in your site. But since I am targeting the high ranked keywords as well, I will try to build links by submitting the articles in directories and social networking sites. I don't want to waste time doing all this and want to automate the entire process. I was looking at different softwares that I can use and I am considering the following 3 softwares:

a) Social Bookmarking Demon
b) Article Demon
c) SeNuke

The problem is, it will require a lot more investment from my end and I don't want to get into aggressive back linking strategies by putting in money into these software in the initial stages. I think SeNuke is the best out there. But it costs 147$ a month. So I am not going to purchase it until I have 147$ a month income from my sites to begin with.

11. When I get my page rank, I am going to apply for Google ad sense. I am also considering ad brite and chitika to use WITH my ad sense. I know chitika will not be a problem but will ad brite be a problem? I am also looking at Kontera and Text Links ads to use with my ad sense. Any other ad services that I must consider?

12. After a year, by which I hope to make at least a 1000$ / year, I will outsource the article writing to freelancers. That is how I hope to keep the site running.

13. I still haven't understood the use of using aweber news letters. How is it useful to me? Is it not just a waste of money? Yes I can stuff in a few affiliate links to it but doing this comes at a cost and I probably might not have that much of Return on Investment.

14. I will be using an alias in all my websites at least for the blog author's name. Will that be a problem? I am not selling anything. I will have my domain registered under my real name.

15. At the same time next year, when I have outsourced the article writing to free lancers, I will start an e-learning course which I will promote in my site. This will be the first and probably the only product that I sell in my site. Any other product that I can sell in my site?

Please let me know if there are any flaws in my action plan. Please tell me if there are ways to improve on this. I will be eternally grateful to you.

It's all very good. At least you made a plan.

Here are the things that are not good:
"I am not going to start the website till I have written down the content for the next 6 months."
"I put the automatic publishing "

It's way better to just start to write and publish as you go. If you put it on automatic Google will hate you and will refuse to send you traffic.

"Fiverr offers some 20000 fans for 5$."

That is the best waste of money.

"So I will spend 15$ more to boost the number of fans in my facebook page. "

    Again: waste of money.

"I am planning to buy tweet adder"

Wow, waste of money plus a nice signal for Google:"please remove my site from your index."

"cleverly disguised advertisement of the affiliate"

That is neat. Once you got visitors you are making sure they never come again. If the affiliate program is bad: do not advertise it. If it is good: clearly state it.

    "a) Social Bookmarking Demon
    b) Article Demon
    c) SeNuke"

Waste of money and another invitation for Google:"please remove my site from your index."

" I still haven't understood the use of using aweber news letters."

Get busy to learn that one as it is the only guarantee to make money.

Looks like quite an extensive plan, even if it is restricted by your budget. As the old saying goes, you have to invest money to make money, so you might want to rethink your restrictions money-wise, although I do think you're correct in holding off signing up for SeNuke at $147 per month, as that is pretty steep (I have no experience with it but I hear it's an excellent tool).

As for other products to market from your sites, you could create your own info products and market them and/or do some affiliate marketing.

I'll be interested to check in a year from now to see how you're doing.

    All the best,

"I haven't monetized my personal blog because I think it has no commercial value and hence it will be a waste of time monetizing..."

abhishekranjith why not use your "skills in writing satire and humour" to become your monetization for your blog?

People LOVE humor. And like sex, they'll pay for it. Ok, maybe they'll pay more for the sex but they'll still pay for a good laugh as well.

Rather then getting yourself into something you'll be bored with later on (You may not, I really don't know) why not focus on what you have going now.

      Since I don't know what your blog is I can only make some off the wall recommendations but here they are;

      * A Book Of Humorous Antidotes
      * Book Of Jokes
      * Book of Funny THings That Happen In Your Life (This could be a great list builder)
      * Funny Videos
      * Funny Audios
      * A Mixture Of Everything

Plus, you can use Amazon and Audible to offer other products as income.

I feel your plan is not good. Sorry to put cold waters into your well thought out plan according to you. It will eat away your money and time and you will get nothing. You are trying to find short cuts and cheat google and you can't win google. Be straight forward in your approach. Keep posting your post every day and let the website be up and running with immediate effect.

Dont waste your money on fiverr, tweetadder and the rest. You want twitter followers, better do it manually if you can or outsource it to a person who can do this for you manually and that too not more than 100 per day.

I have outsourced this job to a person in Antartica who does this job so well that I have got 1300 twitter followers in less than 15 days.

You need to have both offline and online support to monetize. For offline marketing, do cold calling through telemarketing efforts. Here again, outsource this job if you can afford the payment.

For online you just have to use SEO services (legitimate) and no shortcuts pls.

I agree, using Blogger puts your site at risk of being removed at any time and u can get decent hosting for less than $5 a month at some places

The thing is I dont know what I can advertise or sell in my satire blog. I mean it is just a personal blog about my own life and it is quite random. What possible money can I make out of that? Yeah I can put google adsense but the ads will only ruin the blog and I wont get much clicks anyway.

Stop and take the time to learn ALL about email lists and their importance and benefits.
Basic theory is that if a person comes to your website, doesn't see anything specific they would like to buy or that sparks their interest, and leaves... He'll never return to your website again and you'll never have an opportunity to sell him anything ever again.

If that same comes to your website, signs up to your email "news letter", now you can bring that person back over and over again, send him updates "hey I just posted a new post about blahblah, check it out".

No Opt-in List = Visitor gone forever
Yes Opt-in List = Multiple opportunities to sell

You have started on the right foot though by making a plan.

I'd think twice before doing that.

      1. I have been doing some freelancing writing jobs in freelancer.com to make the money required for my new website. I have 100$ at the moment and I think it is more than sufficient for me to make my websites.
A hundred bucks when used wisely can be enough to get started.

Uh, yeah - because Google will control you and can shut you down for sneezing in the wrong direction. You need to buy your own hosting.

I don't understand why you don't think 100 bucks can't buy you your 3 domains and hosting too. It can.
      3. I am going to start 3 websites at the same time. They will have the following themes:

      a) Romance, Dating, Marriage and Love etc
      b) Intelligence, Brain, Smartness, Memory, etc
      c) Health, Fitness, Diet etc
That is too broad and general IMO for each of those themes. I'd kick down to dedicating 1 or 2 months on just one of those - narrowed down even - and then after seeing some money come in go onto the next.

      4. I have done considerable keyword research in Google ad words. I am initially targeting the low competition keywords. I will use the high competition keywords too in my content but I don’t hope to rank for those keywords till my site has a considerable page rank and popularity. Like for example, Dating has a high competition. This is one keyword that I definitely want to rank in. But instead of trying to rank for it, I will try to rank for other keywords which will drive traffic into my site.
Forget adwords for a bit. Did you not just tell us you are a successful writer? There is where you can can spending money. Write for syndication. Look the topic up on this forum - it is a hot one. Syndication can get you everlasting traffic that will be targeted and a million times cheaper than ppc.

I mean, go ahead if you want and do some paid advertising - but I'll tell you right now that is going to suck your money out faster than you know - even if you find nickle per click words. Do some more freelance stuff if you want a bigger advertising budget. Spend the money on getting your own hosting.

I can’t wait to start my website and make my money out of it, so I guess I will get this done and over within the next month or so.
How are you planning to monetize these sites? Just with adsense?
BTW, you don't need a bazillion pages to make some money.

You won't forget to write. lol.

I think this is not so wise to do. Just add your content weekly and spend some time actually putting it on the site and making tweeks and adjustments.

      6. Once the article is written down and uploaded, I put the automatic publishing of one post per day. I am planning to post at 9 AM EST. I live in India so that means it is 7:30 PM in my country. Is there any other specific time that I should be posting?
The internet is 24/7. What time you post really doesn't matter. And I'm not sure what the obsession of one post a day is.

I guess I will opt for that. I have after all invested only 30$ so far (10$ for each site) So I will spend 15$ more to boost the number of fans in my facebook page.
      1. Facebook does not allow "fake" accounts.
      2. Getting bought for fans is one of the dumbest things to do.

I now see where this extra money is going - lol, and I wouldn't be spending there.

I wouldn't add the game players either - just because they might seem like easy access. You are going to have to play games with them or they will kick you. lol

      8. I am planning to buy tweet adder. Not only will it help me automate my tweets but it will also help me improve my followers reach. I would like to know if this is good software to use.
Not needed. There is a free software/site that does this - but I'm not going to recommend that either.

      9. I would have already started to monetize my blog. Along with the content that is getting published each day, there will be several affiliate links. The content will be informative and VERY useful to the reader. Along with it there will a cleverly disguised advertisement of the affiliate. However, I will ensure that none of the affiliate lines appear in my home page.
Well "Mr. Iknowhowtooptimizemywebsite" - you should know that outbound links are expected.

You should know that Google doesn't like people who try to game the system. Their first priority is good user experience - not vendor gets all the money experience.

There are ways to make those links nofollow - but there is the even better idea to invest in a listbuilding service and then email out appropriate links.

      10. I will also work on link building. The only form of link building that I am familiar with is link exchange. I might write guest posts but finding similar sites and writing guest posts for them is a little hard. I am pretty sure I can get a PR of 3 minimum just by doing link exchange. I think SeNuke is the best out there. But it costs 147$ a month. So I am not going to purchase it until I have 147$ a month income from my sites to begin with.
What about article marketing? Write something good enough to be syndicated and you can have hundreds of backlinks in one shot.

Now you are getting just downright crazy. One HUGE lesson is that you need to know how you are going to monetize your site(s) and trying to do too many things to monetize will confuse the audience and you will lose money in the game.

Lets pretend I go to your site - maybe the dating site. I am reading your nice article that talks about a dating membership site and why I should join. Let's pretend As I'm reading down the page I come across a membership dating website - and if I click that, you as the affiliate get a residual income of $20 a month. Now let's say I finish the article, and just to the right is an adsense ad to join a different membership dating site. If I click that adsense ad you are going to make a one time profit of a dollar.

You need a better plan on how to monetize and you are too spread out right now.

      12. After a year, by which I hope to make at least a 1000$ / year, I will outsource the article writing to freelancers. That is how I hope to keep the site running.
It's silly to wait a year - and if you aren't making more like $1000 a month at minimum from one site alone then you will have a lot of sorting out to do. Unless you only want to make a $1000 a year - but you could easily do that just from freelance writing - and I'd bet it is a bit more guaranteed.

      13. I still haven't understood the use of using aweber news letters. How is it useful to me? Is it not just a waste of money? Yes I can stuff in a few affiliate links to it but doing this comes at a cost and I probably might not have that much of Return on Investment.
Gosh, you sound real confident about your plan. Maybe you need to rethink it a bit.

      14. I will be using an alias in all my websites at least for the blog author’s name. Will that be a problem? I am not selling anything. I will have my domain registered under my real name.
Come on! Now you're just toying with us. You have adsense and affiliate links and yet you won't be selling anything.

      15. At the same time next year, when I have outsourced the article writing to free lancers, I will start an e-learning course which I will promote in my site. This will be the first and probably the only product that I sell in my site. Any other product that I can sell in my site?

Thanks for letting me know about the article syndication. It is something that will work very well for me given the quality of the content I write. I was completely oblivious to article syndication. I mean I knew that submitting articles in ezine is going to bring me traffic, but that idea did not appeal to me because I was afraid I was going to be penalized for plagiarism for having the same content in two places. Thanks a bunch. I will be looking into article syndication now.

    Hey abhishekranjith!

Your Plan has plenty of flaws. But, that's no problem, because I'll help you to fix those :-)

Read my post carefully, it will give you a better perspective of this whole money making thing.

I haven't monetized my personal blog because I think it has no commercial value and hence it will be a waste of time monetizing but I think I have the knowledge to succeed in making money online because I spent this period learning how.
There is no niche in online marketing that has no commercial value. Period. There are just niches with a higher value.

The first thing you absolutely NEED to do:
Find out how the best performing sites in this niche monetize their site/blog. Try to integrate the most used one's (One at a time!) and let the monetization strategies compete against each other for at least a few thousand visits (if there are used more than one). Track your traffic (I recommend getclicky.com or statcounter.com) and decide afterwards which monetization strategy worked the best. But never forget: A good user experience is far more important than that extra ad or something.

You ABSOLUTELY need to do this first, because you already have a blog with exposure, and you would be stupid to not take advantage of it!

    1. I have been doing some freelancing writing jobs in freelancer.com to make the money required for my new website. I have 100$ at the moment and I think it is more than sufficient for me to make my websites.
I know, many will tell you that $100 are enough for it. But I need to disappoint you, it is not enough. I'll later clarify why. However, if you monetize your blog and try to optimize it once or twice a weak, and if you write a little more for customers on elance for example, it should be no problem to get the necessary funds you need.

There's another BIG flaw. It seems like most people don't know for what blogs are designed for.

To clarify it (and this is not my view, but Google's):
Blogs are used for news related topics, which means that the contents value decreases over time. To keep your traffic alive, you need to keep the entire blog healthy with up to date information.

Websites are used for evergreen topics, which won't decrease in value over time.

Ok, now think of your three topics... do you believe that these are time-sensitive or could you write evergreen content that doesn't change in value?

In my opinion, your best bet would be to make a website and pay for the hosting, instead of choosing blogs. (I can recommend inmotionhosting.com, because their support is just top notch.)

By the way, a good tip from me: Don't register a new domain. Buy one which is at least 1 year old. The older, the better. I buy my domains mainly through GoDaddy's auctions. (GoDaddy.com)

Also, you shouldn't start three websites at once without the proper research (that you haven't) and the knowledge of how much could be possible. You could get stuck with projects that pay very little off, which frustrates because you'll spend plenty of time for those. Better research it further, and take only ONE of these three at first. After the first is running (or completely failed), you go to the next one.

I'll come later to the point of proper research.

So, you basically made your research using "Google Adwords Keyword Tool". I'm sorry bro, but in fact you know NOTHING about your market yet.

I'll just explain how I research when thinking about tapping into a new niche (however, I'll keep it short, because otherwise I would probably break the mold):

    1. Keyword research with the most common used terms. However, DO NOT USE GOOGLE's KEYWORD TOOL! It helps you absolutely nothing for following reason: The competition analysis is utter bull****. It basically only shows how many people compete, but you should not care about that, BECAUSE ONLY THE STRENGTH OF THE TOP 10 MATTERS. There are only two keyword tools known to me that bring in the needed information: "Keyword Blaze" (Keyword Blaze Download) or "SEOMOZ" (seomoz.org). I use mainly Keyword Blaze for that matter, because it is free and just a phenomenal tool (big Thanks to Steven Clayton, I love this guy <3 he's one of the mentors I learned the most).
I recommend going for Keywords with less than "50" SEO competition (you'll know what I mean after using Keyword Blaze) if you can spend $100-$200 per month for SEO, and if you want to SEO yourself, not more than 30 or 35.

    2. Take a closer look at your main competition. Obviously, I mean the top 10 competing pages that come up on your keywords. There are a few things you need to know:
What monetization strategy are they using? Try to find the monetization strategies that are used the most, and try to figure which methods would bring you more profit. But remember, although it is easier to monetize with ads, selling something usually tends to have a higher ROI.
What are their strengths? (For example, low price, good support, whatever)
What are their weaknesses? (same as above, just reverse)

    3. If you come to the conclusion which of these three projects could results in the highest profit with the least amount of work, go for it and take the others aside.

    4. Use the already mentioned strengths and weaknessses to your advantage in every possible encounter with your customers. So, ignore their strengths (it would be "Heavy Ground" to compete with their strengths. Not a good business strategy basically) and go straight for their weaknesses. You need to abuse their weaknesses every time a potential buyer sees you and your competition. However, this may be more confusing to you than helping, but honestly it is really hard to describe it. I recommend you to sign up on simpleology for a Elite account (first month is free, and you can cancel any time). Besides that simpleology is just great, there is a guide called "The Irresistible Offer", that you should learn to understand the above explained and use it in your strategy. Believe me, outthinking your competition can result in so much higher profit, you would shoot yourself in the knee if you don't do it.

    5. Try to find other ways to get traffic besides Google. It is never good to throw all your eggs in one basket.

Bad Idea. You need to know the potential of the projects first, and without knowing the monetization strategies, you are unable to come to a satisfying conclusion. Also, 1 Project at a time, not more. Think of it as such: if you make all these three websites, and later it turns out that only one of those is profitable. You basically wasted a lot of time, because you haven't gathered the right information.

DON'T BUY SOCIAL EXPOSURE ANYWHERE, except through SYNND.
The reason is pretty simple, because the most important thing is letting google believe that all this comes naturally. SYNND is the only company I know that is able to do that. (I recommend you, if you decide to buy SYNND's Pro version, to do it via this link:
    Matt Carter Special
THIS IS AN AFFILIATE LINK, but it is not mine. The reason I recommend this link, is because you get it 30% cheaper and you get more as the usual Pro user.)

Don't overdo it with affiliate links. Focus on specific products where you know that they KICK ASS. I mean, these should be the best in the market you could find.

    1. Link exchange is not enough
    2. Keyword stacking, or in general having the keyword many times in your article won't help ANYTHING with your ranking. In fact, you don't even need the keyword in your article to rank. However, I recommend having the keyword one time in it, and also having synonyms for that keyword at least one time. But, always prefer the better readability over putting keywords in your article that won't fit.
    3. Your main goal is to make a website that your users will love, because Google will love it for that matter too. ;-)

DO NOT USE THESE SOFTWARES. I know, many people will hate me for this, but SYNND is sooooo much better (and cheaper) for that matter, simply because it shows Google for each individual thing a different IP address. However, I have to say I don't have much experience using these tools. But as far as I know, the only way to use those are through proxy, and in fact I don't know if google can determine if it is used via Proxy.

By the way, when using Articles for Backlinks, always leverage your content. This means, change the file format of your article in as many different formats as possible and upload them to the appropriate websites. (For example, PDF, exe, etc)

If you really want to stick to ads, I don't recommend using several networks for that matter. Stick to the one's with the highest profit, and never forget: Too many ads reduce the user experience, which is extremely bad. Better less ads, but your users love the site. It will result in more money, believe me.

    12. After a year, by which I hope to make at least a 1000$ / year, I will outsource the article writing to freelancers. That is how I hope to keep the site running.
If you do it right and listen to my advice, $1000 per year are peanuts.

    13. I still haven't understood the use of using aweber news letters. How is it useful to me? Is it not just a waste of money? Yes I can stuff in a few affiliate links to it but doing this comes at a cost and I probably might not have that much of Return on Investment.
Creating a list is one of the highest ROI activities you can do. However, simply sending out affiliate links won't work. Create a relationship to your customers via the newsletter by providing them help and advice. Only send out affiliate links in a very cautious and infrequent manner. Give them at least ten times more advice & help, then promotion. This will lead to respect, which will result in insane conversion rates!

    14. I will be using an alias in all my websites at least for the blog author's name. Will that be a problem? I am not selling anything. I will have my domain registered under my real name.
I'm sorry, I never used any alias in my projects, so I don't have experience that I can share on that.

    15. At the same time next year, when I have outsourced the article writing to free lancers, I will start an e-learning course which I will promote in my site. This will be the first and probably the only product that I sell in my site. Any other product that I can sell in my site?
E-learning course? What do you teach in that course? And on which site you want to monetize it?

    -

Well, I hope I could help. If you need any assistance, you can give me your email and I'll send you my skype/msn data for some Q&A sessions.

    best regards,
    Michael S.

Thanks a lot man. Really appreciate the inputs you gave me. But I need one clarification. Does a blog become a website simply because of the place it is hosted changes?

To be honest, I have absolutely no idea I've never build any blog. However, I'll talk with one of my employees. As far as I know she has a lot of experience in blogging, maybe she knows. :-)
