Favorite Email List Building Methods That Have Worked For You?

Hey guys, I've done quite a bit of blogging and affiliate marketing over the years but one big mistake I admit to is not maintaining my visitors via email marketing. I'm familiar with the squeeze page concept and been reading up on how to design, working with autoresponders etc. I'm comfortable with everything there.

Aside from my general blog traffic what are some methods that you have found successful to building a quality targeted list? Maybe there's a WSO someone could recommend? I've been thinking about targeted Facebook ads because I've used those before but perhaps there's some other concepts I'm overlooking (and free at that). I'd appreciate some feedback. Thanks

The key word is always "targeted", isn't it? The method that's worked best for me, overall, is having my articles syndicated in subject-relevant ezines of which the subscribers are already highly targeted simply by the fact that they're subscribers. (In other words, I'm effectively getting the targeting done for me by others, and the readers are people who are already known to be interested in reading articles on that subject, and have already "subscribed to one thing" so that they can do so).

    Forum Marketing and Solo Ads..
Those are the 2 I would use if I could only choose 2!
Forum Marketing is free with super targete traffic..
Solo Ads cost money but are the quickest way to build your list..
Stay away from JV Giveaways.. the leads are useless!

Ha, thanks! I know I need to get on that. I'll be sure it's the first thing I do when I have my email marketing set up.

    Thanks for the input

Alexa - I like this approach and will look to incorporate this as one of my methods.

Chris - For the first blog I'm looking at beginning with it's in a non-IM niche. It's a women's fashion/jewelry blog. I have lost out on maintaining a lot of future leads with former visitors by not incorporating email marketing. Also, for the WSO I really only mean as a source of reference. I know sometimes there are good tid-bits of information out there.

Ricochet - Thanks, forum marketing is an area I can incorporate so this sounds like a good idea as well. I've read about solo ads too. Is there a site you can recommend for solo ads?

Sure thing, as opposed to using companies or sites, I use independant marketers..
The best I can recommend if you're getting started is Angelo Sayson.. he's affordable and has a responsive list..
SOLO ADS | High Quality SOLO ADS For Sale! www.AngeloSayson.com

NOTE: Before you commit financially.. Ensure you have a squeeze page set up that converts well (at least 40% I would recommend) and a funnel that will hopefully bring you return on your expense..

Also once you have built a list.. you can do "adswaps" with other marketers where you mail eachothers list.

Here's a good site to get you started on that too.
Ad Swap Listbuilding Forum: Matt Garrett's Free Internet Marketing AdSwaps Private Membership Site

Good luck buddy.. Remember.. the money is in the list

Thanks - really great information for me. I definitely would test out my squeeze page quite a bit and get it where I like it before I spend any money on it. I can do that through some of the other free methods listed above.

And I know all too well the money is in the list, mainly since I'm missing out from having it. I've sold quite a bit in the jewelry industry but I need to keep those people around!

      Thanks for help

Use ppc ads that match the message of my squeeze pages. That's what I do. 100+ squeeze pages. In most cases a short specific message on the squeeze page that matches the keywords of the PPC ads.

By far the most effective traffic generation method for list building IMO is article syndication. For any given viable niche, there may be millions of potential outlets for publication including ezines, websites/blogs and even offline sources such as niche magazines, trade journals, newspapers, etc. The targeted traffic driven from this free method is highly convertible, and often exceeds by several magnitudes the traffic resulting from organic searches.

its just a suggestion as i am not attached with emarketing. "rehash others working method and offer it on your site with "enter your email and click download" trick."

The most effective for me has been Solo Ads. I'm getting more into Facebook and other social media methods now. I can't recommend a specific WSO, but if you browse/search the Warrior Special Offers section you will find some on list building.

There is a twist on forum marketing that you might want to try. Problem with forum marketing is you need to be constantly posting and investing time in forums. But if you can find someone in a forum who is already active and doesn't already have anything in his signature, then go and pay him some amount a month in return for putting your link in his signature. This works very well in non-IM niches.

This is actually interesting. I have always thought of investing time and effort into building an 'authority' in the forums, might as well take a bit of shortcut

    Hi BB

As you've said your target market is women's jewelry then all the advice you've been given here about solo adverts and other ways to get IM traffic is rubbish.

Set up an opt-in box in the top RHS of your sidebar, make it something like a 20% off coupon code for your products to get buyers onto the list. Then in terms of traffic you may want to do some offline marketing, hand out fliers around where you live, adverts in women's magazines, organise a jewelry evening.

Find out where your competition are getting their traffic from, some sort of media buying campaign where you can target the exact demographic of your customers would be good.

Lastly is there a market for digital products in this niche?

If you can spend some money, solo ads is the fastest way to build a list of responsive subscribers. From my experience, safe-swaps is a good site to buy solo ads. There are many people with a huge responsive subscriber list of 100 000 - 300 000 that are selling solo ads for only about $30 for 100 clicks. Note that this number is not open rate which is a lot higher.

I prefer SEO, it puts you where you need to be.
Yeah, it's not for everyone. Some people do respond, you'll never get 100% but it's a numbers game. For me I won't be marketing to a IM list. So I would hope to have people genuinely interested in my info/offers.

What's really worked for my niche is YouTube videos. You basically create a list of targeted keywords using the Google Tool and create a short video (2 - 3 minutes) about each keyword. Have an intro and outro that pushed people to an opt-in page. And build up your YouTube channel's presence by backlinking and connecting to other YouTube channels.

With tools like Animoto.com; it's become REALLY easy to crank out a stylish; content-filled video every half hour. The best part is you can outsource this whole process to an outsource worker. Just look for a writer who is willing to write the descriptions and create the video. I found someone on Onlinejobs.ph to do it for $3 per video.

    Hope this helps!
