How is free traffic Vs paid traffic?

I am using free traffic all the time, I find it very slow to get lead. I want to try using paid traffic, do anyone know what are the best paid and free traffic out there ?

PPC (pay per click) and CPV (Cost per View; aka "PPV"). You'll get almost immediate results. Even better is that you can test and track and find out what's working.

There are many types of paid traffic out there -- PPC, CPV/PPV, social, contextual, display, mobile, email, etc. Do you have an interest in one particular type of traffic? If so, why not go for that? It really depends on what you are promoting but I would recommend PPC on the major search engines.

I'll tell you why. As an advertiser I've seen the quality from most types of traffic and PPC is by far the best quality (talking leadgen here).

CPV/PPV, social, display, contextual are all called 'interruption marketing'. Essentially, the user is browsing their favorite sites or social network and they see an ad that stands out to them, they click on it, they end up converting and moving on. They never had the idea in their head in the first place, you just placed it there for them. So when the call center goes to call them them to complete the backend conversion, those conversion rates are much much lower.

With SEM, people are actively searching for solutions and you are providing that solution. So they already had an idea in their head of what they wanted, and then you gave it to them.

Based on those two descriptions, I'm sure you can tell why paid search provides much higher quality. Sure you'll receive conversions from both, but backend conversions from search have always been higher for me. From my experience, email provides a very similar quality as well with a highly targeted list.

Not to say that social, PPV, and display can't back out well for the advertiser because it definitely can if all the correct variables align.

Sorry for the round-able answer but I would recommend PPC search traffic. Hope this helps.

Solo Ads, you'll need to do a little research but if you can get it right this is an awesome source of paid traffic. There's lots you can learn about them. You'll usually pay per guaranteed click, just make sure you use a reputable supplier.

Banner ads are also another good option, again you'll need to do a little research to you the best chance of at least breaking even on your first ad.

  • I think it really depends on your current time constraints and budget.

    Simply put -

If you have more money, less time - go paid traffic.
If you have more time, less money - go free traffic.

They all have pro's and con's but personally, I prefer both. Diversified traffic all the way.
I get free traffic from content-based marketing - whether it be videos or articles, whatever. But at the same time, I am in the process of learning more direct-response marketing such as ads and stuff which actually doesnt take too much 'effort' but it does cost a little bit.

From my experience though, most people will agree that paid-traffic seems to be more quick and instant but I figured the targeting is better and relations are stronger with more content-based traffic methods.

Solo ads have always worked for me... buy some good solos... in fact if you already have a list of some size, you may want to try solo ad-swaps... the best thing about solo ads/ad swaps is that you are marketing to users who are already interested in your kind of offer

Free traffic is the best way to get traffic from internet. You can get paid traffic at any time if you have money. But there is no art in it. The art is when you get tons of traffic and earning money without spending a cent. You will have to do some work first.
**Write fresh contents which is readers friendly.
**Submit articles in popular article directories like ezinearticles, articlebase etc.
**Submit articles into hubpages and squidoo.
**Create youtube video. Add more relevant tag in it. The more tag you add, more view you get.

These will multiply your Free traffic.

If you are still interested in paid traffic, Google adwards is the best option available till now. It will give you the best value of money. Also, you can contact webmasters who have got popular sites in your niche. It will also help.

I have to disagree with this here

Free traffic while it is free in terms of money -- takes up a lot of time especially in the beginning.

With paid traffic you get results immediate. This lets you test your squeeze page opt in rate, lets you see how well your follow up emails are doing, and lets you see if those subscribers are turning into buyers.

Once you are making money from your paid traffic source -- it then takes tracking your results to make each campaign better then the last.

Once you have a positive ROI several times in a row -- then simply just invest more into your business to earn more. This is a very quick way to grow you business and income online.

        Hi,

As my friends says what are the paid and free traffic,

So, the Paid traffic are the take place when you pay for Google for example or other directory,

And the Free Traffic or we call it also the "Organic Traffic" those we get it when we advertise our sites ..

And always there positive and negative issues from both..

But I would go for the second one because you would learn about how to get always traffic and know the sources !

I hope that I helped you,

Free traffic usually means providing quality content to your visitors, and knowing how to get visitors by the available free tools, like social media marketing, articles, link exchanges etc. This is something you can learn and invest time in.
With paid traffic you can get quality leads instant if you have the right sources found.

Free traffic is nice. Especially when you get it from search engines, branded forum marketing, and social sites like Facebook, Twitter and Redditt (among others).

That said. Paid traffic can be beneficial if you have a targeted source and have enough cash to throw at it. Don't expect to spend $10 on a campaign and see overnight results. I mean you could, but you would need to be damn sure your targeting was spot on.

If you have the money and the stones to handle the stress of spending cash with no immediate return while you fine-tune the targeting. Go for it.

I like free traffic more than paid. The reason is because free traffic comes from your effort and it will bring you only 'quality" visitors.
Paid traffic is not always successful, if you buy fast massive traffic you will fail. If you buy PPC ads you will get good results, as you will choose the keywords and your ads will be shown on sites which have content related to your site.

Paid traffic techniques for fast traffic - solo ads, banner ads, facebook ads.

Just be sure you're tracking and measuring so you know which source is profitable.

Obviously making an investment in traffic will gain you faster results in some cases, but not all cases. If you are working to build a ranking for a blog, you can do that better for free, believe it or not. It is a somewhat slow process, but pays off well long term. Personally, I am building the infrastructure now for a long term blog and have built up sites that got traffic from not doing any further work, because I had a solid foundation, but I did not pay for this traffic. This traffic came from posting on authority sites and linking back to my main hub website and also doing some good on page search engine optimization. You will find that you will be able to walk away from the computer for a week at a time say about two years from now and have more traffic in that week than you ever had when you were brand new in the industry.

It is not about it being free or paid, the best is what you can target properly to give the best return, if you are paying for it you want it to be highly targeted, I love Facebook Ads personally and find that you can get traffic really quick with these as oppose to Adwords where you seem to need lots of ads running to get traffic quickly, I think Facebook offers good value too.

Finding a relevant ezine and running a solo ad can also offer good value too.

I believe "free" traffic is a bit of a misnomer. What people usually mean is organic traffic, which is most certainly not free (unless you value your time at $0.00/hour).

Michaelangelo really hit the nail on the head here (emphasis mine):

I believe that you should give a try to PPC programs, and more specifically, to Adwords. I know is the most expensive out there, but it will only give you visitors you wish to have.
Just be careful while you will be choosing your keywords and everything will be fine.

I have been using solo ads to build my lists for over 8 months and they work like "gangbusters" ;-)

If you have a half decent squeeze page, front end offer and sales funnel they can be very profitable too and i often i can build a tonne of subscribers from solo ads and it doesnt cost me a thing :-)

solo ads in my opinion are very hard to beat when it comes to a fast targeted traffic method and building your list fast

Free traffic does not exist. You have to invest to get traffic. Whether the investment is green dollars (money for ad etc) or gray dollars (time, patience, SEO, efforts whatever) is a different question altogether.

I would think getting traffic that makes money and keeps you in profits is the best traffic.Traffic that does not make money is not welcome. Traffic that makes money but pushes you into losses (makes you spend more than your revenues) bleeds one to death.

Test, test and test with your niche. Unless your chosen niche is a bogus (hopefully not, niche finding is not that difficult a task) you are likely to make money either way. The rest depends upon the nature of investment you want to make.

And by the way, time/money are direct investments. Please beware that there are a NUMBER of indirect investments either way - so be prepared to face surprise investments such as a sudden night of late working by sacrificing family life, an unexpected credit score revision because of sudden over-spending... Impossible to predict this part.

I'm a strong believer in paid traffic. With almost all traffic you have to pay for or a position you have to pay for you get a certain level of trust and exclusivity.

Free traffic does work I'm not denying that and anyone on a budget should definitely go for Free, but paid traffic is MILES more effective, easier to set up and you get almost instant, track-able results.

Also, practically everyone is using free traffic so more competition, less effective.

For me, free traffic means forum, cause it only takes some time to provide value and the traffic will come, not many of them but at least they are targeted.

If you can do a video yourself, posting video is also a good free traffic source.

You can see immediate result when u use paid traffic, PPC is a good option, it can be very target but u need money to do it.

So if you have money right now, try out PPC.

Some one mention about fiverr service above, well most of them ( maybe all of them) are bot traffic. Even they are real human traffic, they are not targeted traffic which means less conversion.

(I tried that long time ago and no opt-ins or sales)

You can consider different pay per click options like google adwords and Facebook. You also can purchase display traffic through Bevo Media's new ad exchange. The sweet thing about Bevo media is that you can purchase on any available website in the web and the network works on real time bidding process.

For free traffic guest blogging and press release works really well these days.

Lots of opinions, I have a few of my own, but as someone that has been in this business long enough to have actually purchased paid traffic before there was even google adsense, I can tell you that its a numbers game.

The higher number of people you reach the more sales you will get.

If you reach all the wrong people with an offer that does not interest them you will spend your money and make nothing in return for all your hard work.

Free traffic can convert, but usually the best methods of getting revenue is a highly targeted source of valid, real, (not fake) genuine, gold plated, Diamond covered traffic that has an interest in what your selling.

If you cant do that and if the traffic source cannot provide you with a guarantee, then they are worthless and you should avoid them.

If they say something like "well your offer was not good enough" Avoid them, they are selling a product that is not any good and sucks the oxygen out of the room.

If they sold you the package without asking to look at your offer in the first place you know for sure that they are worthless as a business.

A real business would tell you up front if your offer is good or needs improvement.

It is all about the numbers, you get a good offer in front of the right group of buyers, and you can do really well.

This topic seems very popular nowadays.

A lot of marketers who are still trying to get the results that they deserve believe that if they had $10K in advertising, that they would finally make their break though's online.

I don't believe that for one instant.

    Why?

Because even if you had that kind of budget to draw from, it does not mean that this 'Money Making Game' will be easier for you.

Paid traffic takes time, effort and persistence just like FREE methods do.

Either way, it will take you time to perfect and Master your skills.

Free traffic methods like Blogging and Article Writing have brought me more 'targeted' and better converting leads than any paid traffic method (even Google Adwords) but unfortunately Google is getting way too picky nowadays.

Blogging still can work for you but prepare to work for your rewards and keep on keeping on with all the changes that the Big "G" keeps making.

    One final point...

If you ever decide to actually do paid traffic, make sure that you have the profit potential (make sure your commission profits are worth) to actually keep reinvesting back into a marketing budget that will keep you in a constant traffic and lead 'flow'.

The day you start seeing 'consistent' and targeted visitors and leads and sales is the day that your business become a real business in your 'mind' and that....

Is when the real magic starts to happen!

Absolutely dreadful advice. For all the reasons explained here. It's partly because so many people believe this, that the failure-rate in internet marketing is so very high. A business which is dependent on Google for its primary traffic can never be more than one algorithm-change away from a wipe-out. What kind of way to run a business is that?

This thread is from 2012 and some of the "information" in it is now very much out of date and inapplicable.

Some was completely incorrect even when originally offered.

Other observations are pretty timeless, though, I suppose.

Categorizing traffic into "paid traffic" and "search engine traffic" is just a category error: it's neither helpful nor meaningful.

Search-engine traffic can be either free or paid, and non-search-engine traffic can also be either free or paid.

Arguably, all traffic's "paid" but some is paid for with money, and some "just" with time, effort, energy and skills.

Speaking for myself, I've had good paid traffic and good free traffic.

The best, most responsive, most profitable traffic I've ever had, by far, in all/any of my niches, has always been free (article marketing traffic). PPC traffic also hasn't been bad to me, though it has a big learning-curve and is rarely, if ever, quite as scalable - and never quite as "passive" - as some of its more enthusiastic proponents claim. And search engine traffic has been uniformly the worst-converting, least-opting-in, least-buying traffic I've ever had, in any niche, (no surprise there).
