Best Advice for Newbies to IM

Learn how the web works, learn some HTML and CSS at least. You need a strong foundation of knowledge to build your business on so that people don't take advantage of you and you don't miss out on sales due to ignorance.

There isn't a magic overnight get rich formula. What you have to do is find people that really want something enough to pay for it, build said thing for them, and then market it to them in a way that they realize it's what they need to buy. You also have to have a good sales pipeline set up so that once you find people that buy you can keep marketing to them.

Buyers are what makes you money.

If you can't find 10 people that are willing to give you money for your idea it's almost always a bad idea.

Knowledge knowledge knowledge, without it you are likely to stumble along the way, distinguish between what is of value and what isn't. Get a mentor or coach to help you
stay on course, all the big names in IM have mentors, so don't be affraid to ask.

Take action once decided on your route and then keep at it, you will fail before you succeed like everyone, but this adds to your experience.

And lastly the golden rule of IM is to BUILD A LIST, never stop builiding your list, I wish I started building a list a long long time ago instead of chasing "the next big thing"

heres 3 of the best pieces of advice i can give you

1. Do not treat Internet Marketing as a quick money making idea like most people. Do this and you will get no where. Treat it as a business. Businesses take time to build and mature so don`t expect fantastic results overnight.

2. Be prepared to spend a little bit of money. You will need some tools and you will need to gain knowledge in certain areas in order to push your business forward so don`t be tight and think that you can do everything with no money. It`s not going to happen.

3. Take failure on the chin. Internet Marketing is great but you will fail a fair bit at the start so get used to it. If your the sort of person that gives up as soon as you hit a road block or get a slight problem then shut your computer down now and go get a job because Internet Marketing is NOT for you. Just remember, failure is good because you have found 1 more thing that does not work and your 1 step closer to success

Take action as soon as you are done learning something. Don't wait.

A lot of people tend to wait until they have all the information and then take action.

Well, you will never "have all the information" in IM.

Learn as you go and learn fast.

My advice is to not purchase any systems that claims to make you a ton of money in just a few hours or over night on autopilot with little effort...anything you make money with online is going to take some effort...especially in the beginning...

From personal experience I am more likely to work hard at something I've invested money in than I am with something that is free...don't get me wrong there are some free ways to make money online, but I'd rather invest in something, learn about what I'm promoting and I have a little more drive to succeed when I've put money into the opportunity.

Also be passionate about what your doing...sales is the transfer of excitement from one individual to another...if your not passionate and excited about what you do then neither will your prospects and you will lose out on a lot

I spent 2-3 months just reading everything I could. Then, I tried about.4 things before I had success. Just keep learning and working hard and you'll find something that works!

Research and reading through the information here at WF. There is a wealth of knowledge here. Start with a small low cost trusted product, take money earned from there and invest it into another trusted product and build up from there.

I would say that making money online isn't magic. It's about learning a legit model, finding a legit program that teaches said business model, and actually taking the time to implement what you learn. I would also say that when you hit road bumps, don't give up. Ask questions and work your way through whatever you're having trouble with. Internet marketing is less about smarts and more about persistence. Most people give up before they see success. Don't be one of those people.

Hah, simple and effective I guess - but it's blood hard to stay dedicated for long periods of time especially if that time is required to be invested in making up your business/model.

Just some things off the top of my head...

If you are following a plan, take immediate action, as was already stated above by nasuryono.

Plan on spending some money - If you working at a job, set aside a budgeted amount of your income every month to put into your new business.

Cut back on expenses - If you are short on money, cut back on unnecessary expenses. If you look deep enough and can discipline yourself, you will find stuff you don't really need. Cable, entertainment, groceries, sweets, alchohol, or weed... these are all things you can do without for the time being.

Don't try to be perfect!!! -- This is a big one.
So many people are afraid of failure or they wait until everything is perfect that they may find themselves stuck in a rut or they run out of steam before they even get started.

This was a huge one for me... always trying to get it "perfect". When you are ready to launch a product or service, just do it. You can always go back and improve upon it later. You can even launch it as a new-improved, up-dated version 2 of your original product.

Try and get support from your spouse or partner - If you share expenses with someone else, you're gonna need to get their support.

When approaching them about doing IM, make sure you lay out the benefits and what's in it for them. You might even ask if they would like to be involved in your project and be your business partner. Listen, your partner has some sort of talent you are lacking. If at all possible, use this talent and double your efforts.

Not only will you get some extra talent on your team, but you'll also get them to commit. Once they are committed to "being on your team", things will go a lot easier for you in the future.

Don't try and be a jack of all trades -
Outsource whatever you can afford and leave the least time-consuming stuff for yourself. There are a few great places you can get outsourced talent. Much of this talent is dirt-cheap in comparison to your time. Become a time manager and you'll be way ahead of the game.

Spend less time on forums and more time on your project.
Sure, at first you will have a lot of questions, but when you start finding yourself spending all your time reading and posting instead of just doing, turn it off.

It's all about time management and focus!

Don't be a junk collector - Don't fall for every single product launch or WSO that comes along. So many people here will testify that they have spent {literally) thousands of dollars on total junk. Much of this junk is is sitting on their hard drive right now and I'm willing to bet has never even been opened.

Find a mentor or a like-minded person you can trust and work with. Someone you can bounce ideas off of. Make sure it isn't someone that always agrees with you. Someone who will slap you around if they think you're moving backwards and not staying on task.

One more thing...

There are so many directions you can go with Internet marketing. Make sure that it is something you'll be interested in before you commit to any one specific area within IM.

My best advice:

1. Start an email list as soon as you get a little experience under your belt.

2. Create your own product down the line in the process

Doing these two things will pretty much guarantee your success so you will not be one of the 90% plus who never make any money online.

One of the problems most people run into is that there is so much information out there, that it seems like everyday you will see a better way to solve those thing that are not working. Ultimately abandoning many projects too early. Information overload can be a real problem. If you can find a mentor, it could be a real help

Stick to one thing, just make sure that it is from someone you can trust! When I started I tried to do 10 different things at once instead of focusing on one. Now I have started focusing on one project finish that then move on and it is a lot more profitable.

Spend a little money on necessary tools. (a domain, hosting, marketing software, maybe coaching

You can bootstrap your IM career but it will usually take much longer without a little investment. And I'm talking about under $50. It's just really hard to make money without any capital invested.

Here's my 2¢ :

Learn how to generate traffic

Learn how to get/increase conversions

Build a list

Learn all of the above stuff and learn it WELL.

Above all else, when you decide to do something, whether it be blogging, PPC, CPA, Facebook, Product Creation, etc, etc; stick to it and DON'T jump from one thing to another.

Learn how to do free marketing. You'll build the foundation of a successful online business this way. Also, make sure you build an email list so that you can email to your prospects every few days... thereby increasing the chances of them buying from you.

Advertising is fine, just don't bet the farm on it. Test small, find something that works, and scale up your advertising efforts.

Please please please...stick to one project at a time. Don't try to enter so many ventures at once. If you want to start with Article Marketing first, then start with that.. if you want to Start with Social Media Marketing or Video Marketing first then likewise start with that. Try to 'master' one disciple first before moving onto the next one.. unless of course you have substantial outside help.

If you want to get started fairly quickly making money without having to spend a lot check out "Bum Marketing" it is basically article marketing but using ad sites as well.

It used to be REALLY effective and is not as good now BUT it will introduce you to the other stuff you need to know such as basic copywriting and targeting a niche.

Then broaden out from there.

Keep going with one system until you get some success and don't jump from one thing to another.

Most newbies, myself included, come here to make money online. We know that most of the time it takes money to make money.

Dont get hooked by sales techniques here. Most of the information in the WSO's you can find for free.

Part of internet marketing is ranking keywords. So, when you search for a particular keyword you want to learn about, you get hit with tempting offers to teach you.. for a price.

Think.

Be smart.

Don't be fooled by lofty promises.

Use your head.

Treat it like a real business.

Sell what people are buying.

Expect to work.

Do the work.

Work harder AND smarter.

Keep at it.

Learn as much as you can!!! Once you pick a direction stay with it to the end. Spend money on traffic. People are all about free traffic, but well placed paid for traffic brings in great results fast. I would also suggest a mentor.

I could write an extremely long post on this subject. If I were to start over, I would start somewhere that gives me a clear path to success. Like many others, I started with a lot of bad information, which led to many months of wasted effort before I finally discovered what works for me.

I have actually created a free video course for newbies who need some guidance when they are just starting out. Since I have seen success, tasted it, I want to turn around and give away as much free, useful information as possible. I want to create the ultimate resource for beginners who want to get started with online marketing. I have made most of the mistakes that a newbie can make, and I want to help as many people as possible to make the world a better place. That sounds kind of corney, but I am on a mission to help as many newbies as possible.

For starters, I wish I would have just started taking action right away. There was a long period of time that I was simply wasting time, thinking to myself "Does this really work?" This is really funny, but thinking back, there was actually a time when I was trying to wrap my head around what a backlink was. I would point a backlink to a web 2.0 page and ask myself, "Is this really going to do anything?"

Staying in this phase of "Does this really work?" probably costed me about a good six months of my life. What is even crazier, is the fact that after years of online marketing, what I have learned since then is not very significant. I feels like most of my time was spent just confirming if doing A will equal B, if that made sense. So I think the most important thing for a newbie is to have someone who knows what they are doing give them a clear path to success.

I tried a lot of methods and ways to make money online and offline. I failed a lot of times and wasted a lot of money on buying WSO and wasted a lot of time learning all the tech stuff, also in a search for the easiest way to make money instantly and easy. with all these things that happened in the past i realized that I really did not waste money, I did not waste time.

The IM Industry is just like a profession. You study, you experience and the more you are exposed the more knowledge you gain.

The easiest path is structure. Just like when we were in school. we learn things from letters, words, sentences, stories...

This Forum has information all scattered around. Its hard for newbies to just jump in and try this, try that, try this try that... looking for the magic bullet that will make $30k a month with just 2 hours work. It us possible and warriors make more than that. But the truth behind those success... foundation

So far in my experience. I choose to go for coaching programs. ones from reputable warriors.

My advise... Find A Coaching Program that has a good support system and do not buy any other WSO.... Period.

Newbies get stuck and give up (Just like me). Get another WSO, get stuck and give up.

Do this instead. Get a WSO, Action, get stuck, find help, then move forward until you reach your goal.

I have three points to share first is to learn the ropes of the business, second is take what you have learned into action. Third is acceptance, to accept the fact that this will be a process and that you will learn so much more along the way, hurdles and success are twins, you will not meet the later if you haven't gone over the first....

Take Action, don't just wait around. Don't buy the next thing that promises you instant riches, NOTHING is instant. If you can afford a coaching program then go on it. LEARN, LEARN, LEARN!!!!!

Here's my own advice for all newbies.

First of all, there's no such thing as push button formulas that will make you a millionaire overnight. If you are a newbie to internet and affiliate marketing, don't expect that this will be an easy game. It will be easy for you to read and learn, but not when it comes to perform all of this actually....in other words you TAKE ACTION! If you don't know the method, just LEARN and LEARN!

Don't be afraid to work hard and smart, and to dedicate yourself in order to become successful one day. Affiliate and internet marketing is designed for long term results, and it's not instant money for all of us.

If one method works for you, try to focus on that until you master it. Don't hop from one method to another if in case you failed. The most important thing of all...DON'T GIVE UP!

Heres a few tips.

1. Learn the right information from the start (a mistake i made.)
2. Don't expect to make thousands in your first month.
3. Be consistent with writing content for your site and promoting the articles.
4. Design your whole site to collect emails, an email is a lot more valuable than a sale.
5. Build a list from the start.
6. Learn from your mistakes. Everyone makes mistakes, so learn from them.
7. Make sure your site dosent look like a site thats just trying to sell e.g with banners an adverts everywhere.
8. Make your site eye cachy e.g a cool looking banner, a video showing your readers how to get started. Be creative and youll think of lots of things.

Here are my top tips of advice for a newbie
FOCUS! Don't get distracted - there is ALOT of information out there. Find one thing and stick to it. Test it for a while if it doesn't work after a few months move on
Build a list - I didn't do this when I started and regret it big time!
Ask questions - The forum is a great place to learn so ask questions and learn from the threads here but don't get too distracted by all the threads. Its easily done lol

Don't buy offers of get rich schemes, start off doing CPA, and affiliate exposure techniques, while focus on traffic acquisition, list building and then worry about content creation.

This way you make some money and the results will carry you to the next levels while affording you time to develop more sophisticated strategies.

Never rely one just one source of income or traffic.

Once you get some money rolling in, explore how to find high converting product offers on clickbank and here, and re-invest it wisely into low cost per click TARGETED TRAFFIC PROGRAMS like clicksor, infolinks and others, then work up to quality solo ads, then up the ladder to more targeted publishers like Arcamax and others.

Always split test the offers across several networks and kill the ineffective ones.

Once your up to speed on the above, then shift into the numerous CPC programs on the big social networks. I say wait until this point for the social networks as they are saturated with advertisers, and you need to focus on nailing down income before making that leap. Mind you a wise marketer recently opened my eyes to CPC coupons on the big social sites.

Limited usage but free ads nonetheless, until you exhaust them.

Most people who succeed online invested money in their business. I've found that paid advertisement is more powerful, cost effective and fast than free advertisement. But if you have little till no money to start off, you have not much choice.

Go with something that is proven to work and follow up on it UNTIL you see results. Free advertisement does work but it's for free for a reason.

Confucius said: Nothing is more expensive than free.

Even if you do organic SEO which is seemingly for free but once you consider the content creation or backlinking costs it's far away from free. You best go and get a job so you can invest money into your business. Why don't you start off with article writing or designing graphics? If English is your first language you should have absolutely no problems with finding work online.

I know some people here have stated to stay away from wso's but don't be put off! they can be a great tool and cheap too! the only problem is as a newbie how to use the wso forum to good affect!

Read as many posts on the forum as you can and work out what angle of IM appeals to you the most, then head over to the wso forum and do a forum search for the wso's related to what you are interested in, read the sales page and the rest of the thread and check out all reviews (keeping in mind some may be false) but mainly look for negative comments, if there is any walk away. The trick is to find 3 or 4 wso's on your chosen area and take a few nuggets from each one........then do what 95% of newbies don't do and that is take action on what you have learned!

You may not understand all of the inner workings in the beginning, but the only way you will find out is if you try.

I remember when I first started that I was paralyzed from taking action because everything had to be perfect before launch. That is the beauty of a website. It can always be edited. It can always evolve! There can be updates to your product. There can be updates to your service.

Don't think that your locked into a set method of anything. At the same time don't give up on something because you didn't see results in the first 6 hours. Things take time. Hustle, get out there, get some stuff built and you will see success.

1 Very carefully choose your information- There's a lot of useless info around.

2. Understand traffic and how it works.

3 Tool up- You can't get serious without tools.

4. Do what you like to do- This is probably the most important.

5. Find some money to invest- business takes money, no other way.

Hello everyone! I'm a newbie in Internet Marketing, as in a week old newbie. I did some search and readings already but I still can't understand a lot of things mainly because I don't know the meaning of the jargons/technical words you're using. Like what is a Niche, a List etc. I know this sounds stupid but is there a pdf or link or previous thread where I can learn all those words that I need to get started in IM.

Also, I have read here that it's advisable to get a mentor to get started, but where can we find and meet mentors and where can we start?
