eBook Content Generation - Aggregation is Key

I'm looking for some answers on content aggregation. Do you know if it is legally acceptable to aggregate a series of articles or content from a variety of sources and then to sell it as an eBook for example?

Are there legal issues with this? If so, what are they?
Are there ways around any legal issues like this?

I appreciate the feedback!

First, the standard IANAL disclaimer. I'm not a lawyer and this is not legal advice. From what I can tell you is that what you are contemplating could be a very bad idea.

    Yes.

Copyright infringement is the main one. Theft of intellectual property can cost the losing party in a suit a lot of money, to say nothing of any pretense of credibility and access to markets.

Yes. Only use content for which you have explicit, tangible proof of permission. Even an email explicitly laying out the licensing terms helps.

You are writing your eBook to sell. Even if you only try to sell it through your own website, why not follow the advice of those that sell ebooks for a living?

There are any number of eBook marketing/sales organizations on line. First one that comes to mind is Smashwords.

They have an extremely detailed "How To" manual for creating and publishing eBooks. Their BASIC requirement is that the book be ORIGINAL CONTENT to which you have copyright privileges.

Might be a good place to start.

    Good luck.
